Antibiotic Amnesty 2022
Throughout November 2022, overlapping with World Antibiotic Awareness Week (18th-24th November) many veterinary practices are holding an antibiotic amnesty where you can return any unused or partially used (e.g. extra or out of date) antibiotic medications to your veterinary practice for safe disposal.
Antibiotics can end up polluting our soil and water and should not be:
• Disposed of down the sink
• Flushed down the toilet
• Thrown in the bin
Increased antibiotics in the water means more bacterial resistance to antibiotics and this is harmful to both people and pets, therefore they should be disposed of safely.
You can help by taking part in the amnesty and bringing any unused or partially used antibiotics to your veterinary practice for safe disposal, so we can help keep antibiotics working for when they are really needed.

Inglis Vets joins everyone in the UK in mourning the loss of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

She will be remembered for her lifetime of dedicated public service and is well known for her love of animals. As a steadfast supporter of the veterinary profession, she was the loyal Patron and benefactor of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons since 1952 and gave her royal assent to an array of animal-related protection legislations, as well as longstanding support and patronage to a wide range of animal charities and organisations.

We thank her for her extraordinary decades of service and all that she achieved for her nation and the world and extend our condolences to the Royal Family.

On Monday 19th September our branches will all be closed, and any emergencies will be seen at the Hospital in Dunfermline, Halbeath Road.

Our Hospital will be closed for all but urgent treatments and emergencies, and continued care of in patients.

Rest in peace your Majesty x

With hot weather warnings being issued by the Met Office, it's important to remember the signs of heatstroke in dogs. Never risk walking your dog at peak times, keep them cool & safe. 🥵☀️

If you suspect your dog may be suffering from heatstroke, call your vet immediately to get a diagnosis and an appropriate plan of action. Whilst you are phoning your vet, move your dog to a cool area, offer water for them to drink, and pour tepid water over their body.

UPDATE: We recommend using tepid water (room temperature) whilst getting urgent veterinary advice. We believe every individual dog deserves the best possible care, which would require personalised veterinary guidance. We support the use of cold water once a vet has made a diagnosis of heat stroke.

Most people know that dogs die in hot cars, but the reality is that more than 10 times as many dogs need veterinary treatment for heat-related illness following exercise as for being overheated in cars ⚠

https://www.bva.co.uk/news-and-blog/news-article/if-in-doubt-don-t-go-out-dog-owners-urged-to-rethink-walks-during-hot-weather/

Alongside their annual campaign to warn dog owners of the risks of leaving dogs in hot cars, BVA has joined coalition calls warning about the dangers of taking dogs out on walks in hot weather.
