What a star this mare is...

Emotional post incoming!

Second today at Newbury Racecourse Apple Away in the Class One mares chase, over three miles and brave as ever.

This brings her Listed (Black type) chase record to one win, three seconds, a third and a fifth. To compete at the top level, wearing your heart on your sleeve each time is extraordinary. And it's one of the reasons that we love her... along with her walk, her oddities, and her love of racing. We are so lucky to have her.

Congratulations to all of her Old Gold Racing owners and in particular Ed who herds the team so well, and to Derek who knows Apple well having ridden her most days at home.

What a mare!

(And well done to Thereisnodoubt (Dennis) genuine and robust as ever coming fifth despite starting his race career before most of his competitors were born..)

(And thanks to El and Emma behind the wheel on the Kinross- Newbury trip... a few more miles in front of you both this week x)

P.s. Apple and Dennis's browbands were made to order from Blazing Browbands ! They are fab! Rocky, Evaluation and Chichester have their own from here too! No prizes for guessing which horses are El's favourites 😂 I still need to get one for Rory 🐱...

Oakleaf Racing have an improving filly, Jujubella who won at Newcastle Racecourse this afternoon under young Warren Fentiman. Having stepped up in trip Jujubella is thriving and is a credit to Steven Kelly who bought her last autumn.

The lovely Prince Of Perth, known at home as 'Mouse' returned from a year and a half off to give Conner McCann his first win over hurdles after his terrible accidents. Mouse is a gentle soul whose owners have been very patient with, and he and Conner were a great combination that day at Musselburgh Racecourse

We have some very sad news that we lost Caithness this morning.

Having incurred a vertebrae stress fracture racing at Kelso Racecourse the vets and team here gave him every chance to recover but sadly the fracture displaced this morning and Caithness was put to sleep.

A brave and enthusiastic horse in everything that he did, he will be remembered for his electric jumping and toughness in a race. Gregor who rode him at home is heartbroken but was with Caithness to the end, and Caithness knew he was loved.

Our hearts go out to the Kelso Lowflyers, Lamont Racing and all who shared our journey with Caithness.

😃What to do in 2025? Join us as an owner!

👉🏻We have a number of ways to be involved at all levels. We will showcase the options here this week

💚First up is the most friendly club, Tay Valley Chasers racing club

💛TVC say they are more than a club and for me when you join TVC you join a family of horse racing lovers who have super days racing. Carefully run by Nic Crofts there is lots of interaction between members and they have had loads of success on the track too.

Their two horses are Return Fire who has already won this season and runs over fences at 2m4f to 3m4f. He runs from autumn to spring, when the baton is taken on by Bishop Hill the hurdling filly. Bishop Hill loves Perth and runs over 2m4f to 3m on good ground.

Membership is just £420 for a full year which for two horses and a wonderful club experience is excellent value.
