** Upsetting Post **
This evening, we have been alerted to a young male cat who has passed away unexpectedly at his home, in Kirkby in Ashfield.
His heartbroken Mum said he has been poisoned.
She suspects it was some chicken with the poison hidden inside, which he had eaten whilst out on a nearby garden.
Whilst she wishes to remain anonymous, she wants to help others by making them aware of what symptoms your cat may show if you suspect poisoning. Sleep tight beautiful boy, you didn't deserve this ๐
There have also been reports of cats in the local area, particularly on Alexander Street, returning home with pellet gun wounds.
It is a sad reminder of what disgusting cretins we have living within our vicinity here in Kirkby in Ashfield, who have nothing better to do with their sad pathetic lives than threaten the safety of our feline family members, with poison or pellet guns.
Please report any instances of suspicious activity or attempted harm to the Police.
Below are some pointers on what to look out for if you suspect your kitty has been poisoned. Also, be aware of what you ALREADY have in your home at this festive time of the year, such as everyday household foods, chemicals..... please please cat-proof your house.
If you wouldn't leave things lying around the place with toddlers and/or young children about, keep things out of reach for our furry babies too.

What to do
If you see your cat eating something potentially harmful, try to identify the substance and have any packaging available. You can also take samples of the substance to the vet. If your cat has the poison on its fur, you can wrap it in a towel or use a Buster collar to prevent it from licking itself.
Other considerations
Some illnesses, like kidney disease or severe gastroenteritis, can look like poisoning. You should never give your cat medicines designed for humans.
Many plants are toxic to cats, especially lilies. All parts of the lily plant are toxic, including the pollen, leaves, flower, bulb, and stamen.
