Well despite the shop shelves emptying of milk, bread and bog roll for a half day of winds, your dogs still needs a p*ss & sh*te 🤣🤣🐶 and a good walk if they don’t mind going out in this weather. Wee bit gusty wind & rain doesn’t stop Gary’s Pro Pets walks going ahead but of course ensuring the safety of your dogs while doing so. Busy week as always and finished with a blustery day of walks but still had happy dogs running around with waggy tails 🐶🐕🐾

Happy new year everyone, hope you all had a nice festive break. It’s great to be back at work enjoying these cold frost sunny day walks. Can’t believe that’s first week back almost over but it’s been a good one, busy with the dog walks and training. Great end to the week. Away shooting today and working my own dogs, they are always in their element and work so hard but enjoy every minute. It’s even better having a wee apprentice Callum (his Dad and uncle Kenny who are good friends) always bring him along to the shoot and has done for many years. Callum is now coming along beside myself learning the ways of gundog training. It’s so good to firstly see this young man so interested in shooting and wanting to learn how to work and train the dogs. For myself it’s great to be able to pass on the knowledge and teach him knowing one day he will confident working my dogs alone and then moving on to have his own dog to train (both Callum and Dad Ewan are working on mum 🤣). This is how I started with my uncle Andrew (Pud) taking me to shoots and teaching me the gundog world and training and now here I am today a certified trainer and a specialist in many fields working with dogs everyday which I love doing 😀Have a great evening all, I will be putting my feet up with a wee dram as the dogs dry out infront of the log burner and well deserved too🐶

Evening all, hope you are all on the wind down for Christmas and finishing for a nice relaxing festive break. Been another busy week between training and dog walking for Gary’s Pro Pets. Looking forward to a bit time off myself (still a couple days work left) but when you love what you do it doesn’t matter and will enjoy my Monday and Tuesday festive walks with the gang 😀🐶. Morning folks. Hope you are having a nice relaxed Sunday. For these that don’t know. There is a new pet shop opened in Kirkcaldy. K&S Birds , Carberry Place unit 2 (back of Asda). It’s a family run business. Simon is a great helpful knowledgeable guy. They have live animals (Budgies and Hamsters) and do lots of budgie foods/accessories , bedding, dog food (raw and kibble) for these who used to use Gary’s Pro Pets they store Dr Johns. Also have dog treats, cat treats and much more. Please share with friends and family as it’s so important to support our small local businesses. So go take a look and I’m sure Simon will help you get what you want 😀

Another cracking frosty sunny day 😀, love being out and about in this weather. Had a great afternoon solo walk with Bailey. I have had the privilege of training with Bailey over the last wee while. He is a great dog but gets a bit anxious when people get directly into his space. It was great today to have him on a solo walk and working with him. It’s so important to be able to read anxious dogs behaviours and watch and take heed of theirbody language. Not all dogs like hands in their face and therefore should be respected of this and given their own space . We had a lovely walk where I had enough interaction to control Bailey but also give him his space and time to have a nice fun relaxed walk at the same time learning him to trust in his own terms 🐶

After a busy day training and walking dogs it was so nice to go out and work with my own dogs as the dark was coming in on this fine crisp winter night. Training never stops regardless age and how well you think your dogs are trained. Get in touch if you require any training from Gun dogs (pups, novice or advanced) or if you just want general obedience / tackle behavioural issues. Give me a shout. So shoot day this morning (person I am and what dogs are trained for) I get up in morning and need to act as normal as if I’m off to a day in work (routine routine) they know. As soon as they see me in my shoot gear. Means no eating and bad start to day far to excited, high alert. Doesn’t matter how exited they get should always in control. I get frustrated at times. I then take step back. Always another day for training. At same time I look and see how these guys has worked so hard today and deserve time out kennel and lay at fire 🐶

Morning everyone, happy weekend 😀. Nice start to a Saturday with an early training session with few of my own dogs. Wee snippet of a video just to show some close control and steadiness work. You will notice how my dogs are always looking and engaging with me. When training others I always stress the importance to building a great bond with just you and your dog and train in areas that are not crowded with people, other dogs or to much scent for the dog to be distracted from you giving command. Even in this situation where my dogs are working an area full of scent and their drive is high they still look to me for command and stay close. This comes from continuous training, building a bond , learning commands away from busy areas first of all then start to introduce more distractions slowly and don’t try to teach every command at once 😀. Cracking morning to be out and about early. Training never stops especially as shooting season gets closer. After a good hunting session with my four dogs we finished with some retrieving and steadiness work. It’s so important to have full control of your dogs regardless the situation, refresher training, consistency and of course making it fun is key.
