End of the Shop but the Rise of Gary’s Pro Pets

Everyone it’s with the saddest of hearts I need to break this news and no easy way to say it. As from mid/end of August 2024 I will be closing Gary’s Pro Pets supply store.

As most of you know I am a certified dog trainer and it was always my intention at the start of this venture to progress my Dog Training and Dog Walking services and have someone manage the shop in the background. The shop is doing great in terms of how busy we are and continues to grow however due to the current climate and the poor profit margins that comes with pet supplies it is proving not worthwhile. I wanted to remain a shop that was there for our customers with affordable prices but profit margins out-with my control are making this difficult along with the other giants & online services which have adverse effects on us smaller businesses.

It has been a great journey running the shop, meeting some fantastic customers who have supported us week in and out and being part of the Templehall community. So, would like to say a massive THANK YOU to all of you.

However, on a more positive note – Gary’s Pro Pets is far from gone and will remain as I now focus more on my Dog Training and walking services as well as small animal care and will still be available for any animal advice. As mentioned before this has always been my true intentions from the start but proved far too difficult trying to split myself between this and running a shop

Over July and August, I will be winding the shop down and won’t be bringing any new stock in and selling off what remains whilst continue to grow my dog training and walking services.

Once again, a massive thank you to all who have continued to support us.

Had the best day at the Scottish Game Fair. It’s great to have a day off watching others work their gun dogs but I am looking forward to tomorrow where I will be starting my day with Dog Training. Loki is a regular customer in the shop & he is the friendliest & happiest dog despite being in a lot of pain. Unfortunately the owner cannot afford the extortionate vet bill for Loki’s ACL surgery & Loki will be put to sleep at the beginning of June if funds cannot be raised as he is so much pain. The surgery will be life changing for this 15 month old dog & give him a good quality of life. If you can please help Loki xx

Look at beautiful Heidi who is a regular in our shop. First photo is of Heidi when she was just 11 weeks. The second photo was today. Great to see the sun shining today🌞, dare I say it? Is summer finally here😎. Was nice to finish work and do some training with my own dogs. Remember I am a certified specialist in many aspects of dog training. Particularly Gundogs (novice to advanced) however also do all kinds of training for working or non working dogs. Please get in touch if you would like any assistance. It’s always important to keep your dogs mind stimulated as well as general exercise 🐶

TICK ALERT!! Afternoon Everyone, It’s that time of year again when these horrible TICKS are starting to show face and latch onto your furry friends or even yourself and giving the climate change with the wet conditions and temperatures rising they seem to be even worse than ever and it’s still very early in the year (I removed lots from my own dogs over the past week 😡)

Couple of things to know about Ticks

- Ticks live approximately 2 years and only feed 3 times requiring blood meal to progress to its next cycle
- Takes around 5 or 6 hours to become firmly attached
- Takes up to 10 days to drop off
- Can cause Lyme disease making your pet become very poorly or worse

Here are some tips what to look out for and help protect your pets (in-particular) Dogs and Cats:

Common place to look

- eyelids/ face / head
- in and around ears
- neck and back
- under collar
- under front legs
- between legs
- between toes
- around tail

Prevention
- Check for ticks daily
- Use treatments such as Spot On as a prevention
- Shampoo using specific Tick shampoo which can remove or act as a deterrent to stop the Tick latching on
- Avoid infested areas such as long grass, woodlands, bushes , heavily populated areas with deer.

Removal

- Use a Tick remover and gently prise away from skin ensuring to remove the body and head together

Symptoms of Tick infections
- Fever
- Sickness
- Fatigue
- Loss of appetite
- Lameness or Stiffness
- Joint Swelling

I’d like to apologise for the shop not being open on time this morning. Would love to say we had technical issue but oh no was purely down to a Gary Blonde Moment 🤣🤣. So here’s the story just to cheer you all up on a rainy Wednesday 😀🙈

When arriving at the shop this morning decided to use the back entrance. Done the usual switch on the appliances then thought will nip to the shop for milk to have a cuppa, so grabbed the keys to open the front door and shutters.

Anyone who has visited the shop will know I have a porch at front before entering the main door. So I continued to go out the main door, into the porch and close the door (old Yale chibb lock) but hey it’s ok right??I’ve got keys to then open shutter!!

Wrong! I had the car keys not the shop keys and therefore found myself stuck in the porch between the main door and shutter down. (With no mobile phone which was sitting in the shop beside the keys) 🤣🤣🤣

Anyway after 30 minutes of a bit frantic chapping and shouting help 🙄🤣, one of my regular customers Julie came to my rescue. (Thanks Julie) and thanks to John Harris for getting the spare set of keys setting me free 😀

Since Gary has been young he has dreamed of working with and training animals & here he is living his dream!!! Gary runs a successful Pet Supply Shop in the heart of Templehall and is a very experienced Certified Dog Trainer. We have had the shop for just over a year now and it has been a journey. ITS OUR BIRTHDAY!!!! WE ARE 1Y OLD 🥳 We are so excited today as a year ago to this date we opened our doors for the very first time!! It has been a great first year & our wee shop has went from strength to strength!!! Don’t get me wrong though, it has been a lot of hard work, time & sacrifice but we absolutely love having Gary’s Pro Pets & we are so grateful to all of you for getting us to where we are today. The shop is thriving & Gary’s dog training services are really busy. Thank you again for supporting us. It really does make a huge difference when you shop local and help the wee family run business. Lately we have been so busy in the shop and Gary has been delivering lots of dog training sessions, it has been difficult finding the time to post here!!
