Lambing season is here, so take extra care walking your dog in the countryside. 🐑

Sheep and their lambs scare easily, and even the friendliest dog can cause distress. Keep them on a lead
near livestock, and stick to footpaths. It’s a simple way to protect wildlife and keep your dog out of trouble.

We know Easter is right around the corner and we are all very excited to get tucked in to our chocolate. But what are some of the common worries for pets over Easter.

1. BASKET GRASS
Plastic grass may look lovely in your Easter basket but if eaten by your pet it can cause intestinal blockages.

2. LILLIES
Although they are beautiful, all parts of a lilly are very toxic to cats and can cause kidney failure.

3. CHOCOLATE
As yummy as it may be chocolate can be toxic to dogs causing vomiting, diarrhoea, tremors and seizures. So, keep the Easter eggs hidden from our furry friends.

4. EASTER FOOD
Easter foods like hot cross buns contain raisins and sultanas which are very toxic to dogs and can lead to kidney failure.

5. EASTER EGGS
Fake Easter eggs made out of polystyrene can cause intestinal blockages if your pets think they look yummy!

We hope you all have a lovely Easter and please get posting your Easter pics! 🐣💗

National complimentary therapy week is this week!

Do you know we commonly suggest complimentary therapy to our patients alongside our medical treatment to promote healing and wellness?

These treatments include: physio, hydrotherapy, acupuncture and laser therapy.

Have you got any pictures of your pet undergoing complimentary therapy?

We would love to see them!

On Friday we used our new black board for the first time….. Everyone meet Piper!

The beautiful Piper is our Clinical Director, Alastair’s new puppy. Sadly, Alastair lost Rogie his old dog last year. Rogie was a fantastic boy, who is sorely missed. And although Piper has some big paws to fill she is doing a fantastic job of keeping us all in line and giving us lots of kisses when we need them.

Welcome to the team boss Piper! ❤️

March is national poison prevention month!

Do you know some of the post common toxicities we see?

🧪XYLITOL - many sugar free gums contain xylitol (a sweetener) that is toxic to dogs. It can cause a life threatening drop in blood sugar and liver failire.

🧪 HUMAN MEDICATIONS SUCH AS IBUPROFEN - can cause stomach and intestinal ulcers and kidney failure.

🧪FLOWERS SUCH AS LILLIES AND BULBS - all parts of Lillie’s are toxic to cats not just the pollen! These can cause kidney failure. Spring bulbs like tulips and daffodils can cause severe vomiting, diarrhoea and abdominal pain too.

🧪 FERTILISERS - many fertilisers can cause gastrointestinal irritation and some can be combined with organophosphates/ carbamates which cause urination, desecration, seizures, difficulty breathing and fever.

🧪 PEST CONTROL PRODUCTS - rat, snail and slug pesticides can cause blood clotting disorders, kidney failure and seizures.

🧪 CHOCOLATE - we will be doing a separate post on chocolate with Easter coming up! In the mean time common signs of chocolate toxicity are vomiting, diarrhoea and seizures.

This is obviously not an exhaustive list and if you think your pet may have ingested anything toxic please contact us!

Has your pet ever been naughty and got into the chocolate cupboard? 🍫
