🐉 🐍year of the snake 🐍 🐉
With today being the Chinese new year it brings with it the year of the snake. 🐸🐲
Pictured below is a beautiful little cornsnake called Maizey (left) and a wild adder spotted in the local glens (right)
🐍 the adder is the only snake species native to Scotland
🐍 it is also the only venomous snake species in Britain
🐍 they are active from March to October and are widespread across mainland Scotland
🐍 they can grow up to 65cm and have an average lifespan of 8-10 years

In the rare incident that your dog suffers an adder bite the advice is as follows:
🐕 keep calm - this in turn will help keep your dog calm
🐕 use cold water to rinse the effected area and apply a cool pack to reduce swelling
🐕 carry your dog where possible to prevent venom spread
🐕 contact your vet and ensure your dog is as calm and restricted as possible when transporting

Did you know, nurse Claire runs clinics for our golden oldies? 💛
Cats and dogs aged 7+ can benefit from a full MOT including urinalysis and blood analysis.
Early diagnosis of certain conditions which are seen commonly in our senior pets means treatment can be started sooner and ease any discomfort.
Get in touch with our teams for further info or to book in for a Claire Care Consult!

On Tuesday we said a fond farewell to receptionist Brenda as she started her retirement. 💐
Another familiar face, Laura, who also recently retired came in to train her up on how to relax and enjoy!
We are all very jealous Brenda!

Today is national squirrel appreciation day 🐿️
It’s not often we see them in practice thankfully, as much as we do love them!
The link below is for Saving Scotlands Red Squirrels, a project that aims to map sightings of both red and grey squirrel populations. 🌰🐿️
Out branches are situated right in the centre of their priority target zone so if you are ever out walking and spot one of these little guys why not pop it into their database and contribute to their study!

🌟 new year charity round up🌟

We would like to thank everyone who has contributed to our fundraising efforts in 2024, our charity was Lippen Care, our local hospice.
Over the course of the year we have held various events and have raised £1711.05 which we are over the moon about. 👏🏼

We have decided on our chosen charity of 2025: the Riding for the Disabled Association 🐎, a charity which supports disabled children and adults through the horse human bond. 🐴 🩷
Health and wellbeing is at their forefront and aims to improve physical health and mobility, build confidence, improve mental wellbeing and teach new skills.

A reminder of our pet items charity shop located in both Kirriemuir and Blairgowrie branches 🐕‍🦺🐈🐹 and our book sales in Kirriemuir 📕

❄️ ⚠️ cold weather risks ⚠️❄️

The weather at the moment is 🥶 and can lead to some increased risk ms to both us and our furry friends.
🧊 slipping on ice
🧊 poor visibility of pets by drivers
🧊paw irritation or wounds from salt/grit snow and ice
🧊 hypothermia
🧊 anti freeze toxicity

The PDSA have put together a great information page for advice on winter care - linked below.
And NHS advice is to walk like a 🐧 on those slippy streets.
