Did you know we line our kennels with newspapers to help protect them and provide an extra layer before putting a comfortable bed in the kennel.

Does your dog enjoy going in the long grass?
Grass seeds might look small and harmless, but in the wrong place, they can cause a lot of problems. ⚠️ If your pet has been in long grass, always check them for grass seeds afterwards. Remove any that you find, especially in between the toes, around their armpits and near their eyes 🌾
It’s important to remove grass seeds quickly because their pointy shape enables them to pierce through the skin, enter the body and travel around, causing problems such as infections and abscesses. If you find one stuck or a wound/swelling that looks like it could contain one, book an appointment with your vet.

Both indoor and outdoor rabbits require vaccinations to keep them safe from infectious disease. Young rabbits are particularly vulnerable to serious illnesses, so it’s important to get them vaccinated early. 🐰🐾
Rabbits can be vaccinated from five weeks old and will need yearly booster vaccinations throughout their life to maintain immunity.

We love having BBQs when the sun comes out, but do not forget they can be a hazard for your pets!

Cooked bones 🍗🍖 can get stuck in the dog’s digestive tract and potentially cause life-threatening damage to the guts.
Corn on the cob 🌽 can be swallowed whole by some dogs and can cause an intestinal obstruction.
Kebabs🍢 It is possible for a dog to swallow the kebab whole, including the skewer which can cause damage to their guts.
All of the above could require major surgery.

Dont forget Onions and garlic can be toxic ⚠️

Never leave the BBQ unattended. Even at the end, debris can still be hot. An enthusiastic jump on to the BBQ to steal some food could result in severe burns to paws.

If you are planning a trip to the beach 🏖please remember to pack a beach bag for your dog too!
The bag should include:
🔴The name and number of the nearest vet practice should you need them in an emergency
🔵Lots of extra bottles of water to ensure your dog has plenty of fresh water to drink from, don't forget water in a bowl will heat up fast so it will need to be changed regularly!
🟣Blanket or towel for your pooch to lie on and extras to use when they have a dip in the sea
🟢Something which will provide shade such as an a sun tent or umbrella
🟠Tasty snacks
🟡Poop bags

Remember, if it’s too hot for your hands or your bare feet, then it’s too hot for their paw pads! ⚠️

If you’re unsure whether it’s okay to let your pet go for a walk on pavements, a simple way to test the temperature is by holding your bare skin on the tarmac for five seconds ⏱️

If you find it painful, then your pet will find it painful to walk on!

To protect your pet, it’s best to avoid walks during the hottest part of the day, which is usually between 8am and 6pm. If you can't safely exercise your dog, missing a day won't hurt.

With the new cat microchipping legislation in England coming in on 10 June 2024, if a have a new kitten, you may be wondering when you would need to get them microchipped by.
All cats need to microchipped by the time they are 20 weeks of age, this could be done during their neutering procedure so it can be placed easily and they do not feel it.

Please be aware that we are having computer and phone issues at both Pet Doctors Woking and Knaphill, we are unsure how long this is going to last.
We may have limited appointment history or no access to your pets medical records.
If you need to book a non-urgent appointment please leave it a few days to call us, once our systems are up and running again.
We currently have no access to our emails.

For those of you who still need to keep your appointment, there may be delays so please allow extra time for your visit as our staff will need to work manually and write down everything to be input on the computer system at a later date.

We realise this will be frustrating for some of you but please be patient.

All of our staff will do everything they can to ensure we run as smoothly as possible under challenging circumstances.
