BarkRun has been closed for 2 weeks now and I’ve been flooded with messages of support and amazement that BarkRun has been forced to close. It has been brought to my attention that a kind customer of Barkun has started a petition to re open Barkun. BarkRun is clearly a very missed facilty and is still very much loved.

To The BarkRun Community,

We hope this message finds you well and surrounded by your beloved four-legged friends. We write to you today with a heavy heart to confirm that due to the enforcement notice that has been issued to us by the local council, we find ourselves in the painful position of having to temporarily close down our cherished dog park business today.

First and foremost, we want to express our deepest gratitude for the unwavering support, enthusiasm and love you've shown us and our park over the years. Your presence at the park brought life, joy, and a true sense of community that we will forever cherish. Witnessing the friendships formed between both two-legged and four-legged members was a constant reminder of the positive impact that Barkrun had on all of you.

While this closure brings about sadness and a sense of loss, please know that it is not the end of our journey. We are committed to exploring every avenue available to us to reopen the park in the future. Your safety and the well-being of your pets remain our top priorities, and we are dedicated to creating a space where you can once again find solace, laughter, and companionship.

During this interim period, we encourage you to stay connected with us through our social media channels and newsletter updates. We will keep you informed about any developments, progress, and potential reopening plans. *BarkRun Planning Permission Update*

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the imminent closure of BarkRun, at the end of August. You may continue with bookings up to and including the 29th of August 2023.

As some of you may already be aware, we have recently faced a significant setback in our efforts to secure planning permission for the change of use of the land. Despite our unwavering commitment and dedication, the local authorities and planning inspectorate have now denied our application and upheld the enforcement notice on the site, leaving us with no choice but to suspend our operations at this location from the above date.

For over 12 months, BarkRun has been an integral part of this vibrant dog-walking community. We have taken immense pride in providing a safe and secure place for locals to come and exercise their dogs in the comfort of an enclosed space. We have built long-lasting relationships with many of you and we are deeply grateful for the support and trust you have shown us throughout this journey.

Our team has invested substantial time, resources, and effort in trying to meet the requirements for planning permission. We firmly believe that our business contributes positively to the local community, with no measurable negative impact on the immediate locals. Whilst they may rejoice at this latest development in the anticipation that they may resume their trespassing across the field, they will soon realise that they are sadly mistaken. Whilst we do respect that everyone is entitled to their viewpoint, the small group who have led a campaign to stop us from providing this facility have gone beyond the point of being reasonable. It is also ironic that this same group who have stated our facility is inappropriate use of the land and creates significant noise from dogs barking, at the same time do not consider that trespassing, damaging fences, leaving dog waste and exercising their dogs on our land will cause any harm or disturbance to anyone.

We will continue to make every effort to address any concerns raised during the planning process and demonstrate our commitment to being responsible business owners. This sad news comes the same week that the local authorities have recommended for approval the demolition of Oakwood nurseries, also located within the greenbelt of Knutsford, to allow the building of 10 houses; commenting ‘The site would provide some social benefits to the area.’

While we will be forced to close our bookings at this location, we want to assure you that this is not the end for BarkRun. Our resolve to serve you remains stronger than ever. We are actively exploring all available avenues and will fight tirelessly to explore alternative solutions.

In the meantime, we would like to express our profound gratitude to our loyal customers and the positive members of the community for your continued support and understanding during this challenging time. Your messages of encouragement and belief in our cause have been a driving force in our determination to persevere.

I like to think that the dogs of rainbow bridge, will be lining up to greet the wonderful Paul O’Grady today. Waiting to welcome a beautiful man who did so much good for their kind. I like to think he will be rolling around with dogs he lost, dogs he saved and dogs who simply heard of his kindness. Covered in fluff, smothered in kisses and loved, loved loved.

Thank you for making us laugh till we cried and for making a true difference this side.
You will be missed, never forgotten and always loved.

Rest in peace wonderful man.

Happy Sunday!

We’ve been on site today filling in some of the rabbit holes that have been emerging and also carrying out a poo sweep across all fields. Only 1 was found so thank you to everybody for keeping the fields clean and tidy! We’re always welcome to listen to any and all feedback you might have about maintenance and changes for BarkRun so please let us know.

We will soon be extending our hours to summer hours so keep an eye out for later sessions coming soon!

Polite reminder to please pick up after your dog! We provide bags and bins so there should be no excuse. We do have cctv, so if this needs to be monitored it can be.

BarkRun is always kept clean and tidy by most customers so please don’t ruin it for everyone.

Due to the amount of rain we’ve had over the last 48hrs I’ve made the decision to close BarkRun for the next few days to hopefully let the water drain away naturally. We will be back open next weekend pending a review of the fields on Thursday/Friday.

The last thing I think anyone wants is for it to become a muddy mess.

BarkRun Update

The enforcement notice has been withdrawn and subsequently resubmitted, this, therefore, meant that we have had to withdraw our appeal against the notice and resubmit.

We are still open and able to operate whilst the appeal process is completed and we are hopeful of a positive result very soon.

Should the situation change, we will be the first to let you all know.

BarkRun’s vision is always to go above and beyond for your dogs. Today we hosted the Kennel Club Good Citizens Bronze and Silver awards. These tests are designed to develop your dogs into well rounded and well behaved pets. They test the owners knowledge of how to care and manage for their dogs in everyday situations and throws in some friendly advice along the way.

Here Charlotte is with both of her dogs passing the Silver test with flying colours!

Do you think your dog could pass their good citizens?
The good citizens scheme is all about how well behaved your dog can be. I will attach the exercises in the comments 🐾

NEFRA are hosting a Kennel Club Good Citizens day on 17th September at BarkRun. This will be for the Bronze and Silver assessments.
Start 10am, and we will run the bronze assessments in the morning.
The silver assessments will be in the afternoon - proof of the bronze award being passed previously is needed.

A dog can only take one assessment (ie bronze OR silver) on this day.
Cost £2.50 per dog.

Hi everyone

Just to make you all aware I am keeping a close eye on the weather ☀️
I have chosen to close BarkRun early tomorrow afternoon so there are no booking slots in the afternoon. I do this for the welfare of the dogs and do hope you all understand. No dogs ever died from missing a walk but may if they are charging about in this heat.

As always if you booking is cancelled I will be in contact. Bookings are okay for the morning at present

Due to the high temperatures over the next couple of days Sunday I have closed BarkRun for the afternoon and closed Monday and Tuesday.

Please keep your dogs inside and cool.
Go out early with your dogs and before you go out check how hot the floor is before you walk your dogs on it. You have shoes, your dogs do not.

BarkRun held a training session for the Northern England Flatcoated Retriever Association today. Great turn out for the puppy and beginners and everyone learnt a lot. Great thanks to our two trainers today Gary and Lisa (Evolution Dog Training). Hope to see you all again soon
