Yesterday, I received the following email from a researcher for the TV programme *Dogs Behaving (Very) Badly*:

My first thought was to delete the email. I'm not a fan of Graeme Hall. I've watched a few episodes of his show, and in my opinion, he seems to make things up as he goes along, relying on outdated training methods.

However, I was puzzled. Was the β€œcravat” unwell, and they needed a stand-in? I'm a nobody – why on earth would they want to film me training a dog when there are so many high-profile trainers out there? Curiosity got the better of me, so I decided to give the researcher a call.

I'm still in shock as I write this. The researcher explained that they wanted to invite me to Lytham with my Border Collie to "demonstrate" to Graeme Hall how I would train my dog not to respond to a phone ringtone.

Graeme would then take my training method and use it to teach the Border Collie of the family seeking help – all while filming it for his TV show!

WTF 😳😳😳

I decided to dig a bit deeper and reached out to the force-free dog training community to see if anyone else had experienced something this bizarre.

It turns out that many trainers had also been asked to attend filming sessions to show Graeme how to train dogs before the cameras rolled. Most reported that they refused because of his methods, but a few had shown him and his team how to train a dog, only to be dismissed without any credit for their expertise.

I then did some open-source research on "The Country’s Best Dog Trainer," as the *Daily Telegraph* calls him. He has no formal training in canine behaviour or training. He’s essentially winging it with the help of whatever trainers are willing to show up and assist him.

According to his website, he charges Β£875 per session πŸ€”πŸ˜§

Now I’m not someone who normally criticises other trainers. I prefer to let my clients decide if I’m the right trainer for them based on how I work with their dogs.

However, I couldn’t let this pass without making it public knowledge.

If you're looking for a dog trainer, please avoid this programme and this man. You have no idea whose techniques he’ll be using week to week, and given that most qualified and accredited trainers want nothing to do with him, the quality of training you’ll receive is questionable at best.

Instead, do your own research and find a local trainer who aligns with your own dog training ethics. Organisations such as The IMDT or APDT - Association of Pet Dog Trainers can help guide you to qualified & accredited trainers in your area.

TO DO a skill such as sit, lay down, loose lead, recall etc.

A qualified Behaviourist helps to REPROGRAMME / CHANGE your dogs emotional responses (feelings) towards something or someone.

For example:

β˜† Reactivity or aggression towards other dogs.
β˜† Reactivity / aggression towards humans - children.
β˜† Resource guarding.
β˜† Seperation distress / anxiety.
β˜† Repetitive behaviours.
β˜† Fears of a specific thing or person.

GREAT WORK from this little Jack Russell Cross this week at busy Shakeley Mere!! 🐢

He is VERY fearful (exhibited through barking etc) inside the house when guests arrive. This behaviour was starting to show outdoors also.

We have had a number of behavioural modification sessions and introduced clicker training...LOOKπŸ‘€ at how fantastic he and his owner are doing!!! πŸ‘πŸ‘

LOVE THE SMILE HE GIVES ME...SUPER PROUD OF HIMSELF 😍

He's a great little dog, he just needs time, space and patience to over come his fears. πŸ™

We are starting to see more of this gorgeous, little bit stubborn 😜 and gentle breed once again.

Back in the 90s the Rottweiler had a bad reputation for being a dangerous dog, so much so that they tried the ban the breed in the UK....BUT, as always, it was because of irresponsible and poor ownership rather than the breed.

Where would we be today if this important breed had been banned...😍

My 9 year old son did an amazing job this evening training 12 month old Willow. She was fully engaged with him and enjoyed the session in the field.
I didn't get a look in!!! 🀣🀣

Jules alerted Jade a few minutes before this picture was taken as he detected a change in her odour which meant she was about to collapse due to her condition, . She then knew that she needed to lie down. Before having Jules, this would have happened suddenly, without any warning and she suffered injuries such as black eyes and dislocations daily.

Willow is now up for adoption and she is an adorable lady who we all LOVE so much.❀ Breed: Labradoodle. Colour: black. Size: medium. Age: 10 months. Sex: female. Willow has a wonderful calm gentle personality, she LOVES strokes and attention from her family. Willow can be anxious/fearful when meeting new people and dogs, so needs a supportive patient family to continue with her training (I can provide this). She has come such along way since she arrived and made amazing progress. Willow needs: β˜† A supportive patient family, couple or individual. β˜† Long walks daily (60 - 90 minutes or more) β˜† A quieter household (with not too many guests coming and going). β˜† Cuddles and strokes.😍 β˜† Someone to keep up with the daily positive reinforcement ONLY training and weekly grooming. β˜† A family member at home on and off throughout the day. She CAN be left alone happily for a few hours but NOT suitable for someone working full time outside of the home.
