โ„๏ธ๐Ÿพ Winter Care for Outdoor Rabbits and Guinea Pigs! ๐Ÿพโ„๏ธ

As temperatures drop, it's essential to keep our outdoor furry friends warm and safe.

Here are some important tips for caring for rabbits and guinea pigs during the colder months:

โญEnsure their shelters are draft-free and well-insulated. Use materials like straw or hay for insulation, and consider adding extra bedding to keep them warm.
โญElevate their hutches off the ground to prevent cold moisture from seeping in.

๐Ÿ› Add plenty of bedding such as hay or shredded paper to help retain heat. Make sure itโ€™s dry and change it regularly to keep the space clean and comfortable.
๐Ÿ› Consider providing a cozy hideaway or blanket for them to snuggle in.

โ„On particularly cold or windy days, consider keeping them indoors or in a sheltered area, especially during harsh weather.
โ„If they must go outside, monitor their time spent in the cold and bring them in if they show signs of discomfort.

๐Ÿ’งEnsure their water doesnโ€™t freeze by using insulated water bowls or swapping them out regularly with fresh, unfrozen water.
๐Ÿ’งConsider using water bottles that are designed to resist freezing.

๐ŸŸขKeep an eye on their behavior. Signs of distress or discomfort can include lethargy, excessive shivering, or refusal to eat.

๐Ÿฅ•Make sure they are eating well; hay is a vital part of their diet and helps keep them warm.
๐Ÿฅ•During winter, rabbits and guinea pigs may require extra calories to help maintain their body heat. Ensure they have a consistent supply of hay and fresh veggies to boost their energy.

๐ŸŸขRegular grooming helps maintain their coat, which provides insulation. Long-haired breeds may need extra attention to prevent matting.

Today, we pause to honor the brave men and women who have served in our armed forces, as well as the loyal animals that have stood by their sides.

On this Remembrance Sunday, we reflect on the sacrifices made for our freedom and safety. Let us take a moment to remember those who gave their lives, those who continue to serve, and the courageous animals that have played vital roles in our military history. ๐Ÿพโค๏ธ

As we wear our poppies with pride, let's not forget the resilience and loyalty of all who have served, both human and animal.

๐ŸŒ™โœจ Keep Your Pets Visible This Winter! โœจ๐ŸŒ™

As the nights draw in and our days get shorter, itโ€™s important to keep both dogs and cats visible during their outdoor adventures.

Here are some tips:

โญUse Reflective Gear: Bright, reflective collars and leashes for dogs, and reflective harnesses for cats, can make a big difference.

โญAdd LED Lights: Consider clip-on lights for added visibility on collars and harnesses.

โญStick to Well-Lit Areas: Always walk in well-lit spaces and keep your pets close, especially if they like to wander.

How cute is this little guy! He was brought into us and taken to a few weeks back so he was able to put some extra weight on before being released.

Did you know that hedgehogs typically hibernate from late autumn until early spring, usually around November to March. However, the exact timing can vary based on weather conditions and local climate. During this period, they seek out a safe, sheltered place to sleep, often using leaves, grass, and other natural materials to create a cozy nest.

If you see hedgehogs out and about during the winter months, it could be a sign that they haven't gained enough weight to hibernate or that theyโ€™re looking for food. If you're concerned about a hedgehog's well-being during this time, it's a good idea to contact a local wildlife rescue for guidance.

๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿพ Bonfire Night and Hedgehog Safety ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Hedgehogs often seek warm spots, and bonfires can be tempting shelters. Before lighting your bonfire, please take a moment to check for hedgehogs and other wildlife.

๐ŸŒฟ Check Before You Light
Gently poke around the base of the bonfire with a stick or use a torch to illuminate the area before lighting it.

๐Ÿก Create Safe Spaces
Build your bonfire a few hours ahead of time to give any hedgehogs a chance to leave. Consider providing alternative safe hiding spots, like piles of leaves away from the fire.

๐Ÿ’ก Spread the Word
Share this message with friends and family to help raise awareness about hedgehog safety during Bonfire Night!

๐ŸŽ‡๐Ÿ”ฅ How to Calm Anxious Pets During Fireworks ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐ŸŽ‡

With Bonfire Night approaching, many pets may start feeling anxious due to the loud fireworks.

Here are some tips to keep your furry friends calm and safe during the celebrations:

๐Ÿก Create a safe space โ€“ Set up a cosy area where your pet can feel secure. Close curtains to block out flashing lights, and keep windows and doors shut to muffle the noise. Make sure their favourite blanket, bed, or toys are nearby for extra comfort.

๐ŸŽถ Play calming music โ€“ Gentle background noise like soft music or the TV can help cover the sound of fireworks. There are even playlists designed to soothe anxious pets!

๐ŸŒฟ Use calming products โ€“ Vet-recommended calming aids like pheromone diffusers, sprays, or collars can help reduce stress. Speak to your vet for advice on treatments or supplements, especially if your pet is highly sensitive to fireworks.

๐Ÿšถโ€โ™€๏ธ Walk your dog early โ€“ If you have a dog, take them for a walk earlier in the day before the fireworks start. This lets them burn off energy and avoid being outside when the loud noises begin.

๐ŸŽ‡ Keep all pets indoors โ€“ Itโ€™s best to keep pets, including cats and smaller animals, indoors during fireworks. If you have outdoor pets like rabbits or guinea pigs, consider bringing them inside or covering their enclosures with blankets to reduce noise and flashing lights.

๐Ÿพ Stay calm โ€“ Pets pick up on our emotions. Try to remain calm and act as normal as possible, so your pet feels reassured. Avoid fussing over them too much, as this can increase their anxiety.

๐Ÿ’Š Consult your vet if needed โ€“ If your pet becomes very stressed by fireworks, donโ€™t hesitate to contact your vet. They can recommend anxiety treatments or medication to help ease your petโ€™s discomfort.

Bonfire Night and other fireworks events can be stressful for pets, but with a little preparation, you can help them feel more comfortable and safe. Plan ahead and take steps to reduce their anxiety so you can all enjoy a quieter, stress-free evening.

๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿพ Stay safe and keep your pets comfortable this Bonfire Night! ๐Ÿพ๐ŸŽ‡
