🐾Tifa🐾

Fabulous morning spent with Tifa, brother Hector and their humans Mary and Nick, who managed to briefly join us during a work break!

Recall was the main focus in this first session. Living on a farm means lots of distractions and potential dangers to an inquisitive new pup so having a great recall is a priority to Mary. I showed her a game that the whole family can play to teach recall and discussed distractions and how to use them to our advantage.

A great first session! Looking forward to updates! 🐾💜

🌸 The Purple Poppy – Remembering Animal Heroes🌸

Today, as we honour Remembrance Day and the sacrifices of those who served, we also remember the brave animals who played a role in conflicts and rescue missions throughout history.

The purple poppy symbolises our gratitude to the dogs, horses, pigeons, and many other animals who provided support, loyalty, and bravery. From messenger dogs under fire to search-and-rescue heroes, animals have been alongside us in times of need, often at great cost to themselves.

Wearing a purple poppy is a simple way to show appreciation for these animal heroes. It’s a chance to remember all creatures who served alongside humans, often in roles no one else could perform.

🐾 Thank you, to all our loyal companions, past and present. 🐾

🐾Jet and Roo🐾

This afternoon, I spent some time with Jet, new puppy Roo and their humans Josh and Morgan.

I’ve met Morgan with her previous dog who was reactive so Morgan asked me to do a session to help her anxiety, more than anything. Owning a reactive dog is hard work, it changes the way you think and can have a severe impact on the owner’s mental health and view of dog interactions.

Roo has only been home for a matter of days and Morgan also wanted to make sure to give her the best possible start by getting a session in early to ensure they’re doing introductions properly for both girls, so they learn to live together. Jet was a little wary of me to start with but soon opened up to being besties when she realised I come with pate! She’s not shown huge interest in Roo, so we discussed teaching Roo boundaries so that Jet’s peaceful life isn’t disturbed too much.

Time and consistency will have Roo settled in her new family in no time!

Really looking forward to seeing her grow! 💜🐾

Fab first session this morning for Jasper and his human, Aimee, working on engagement and walking on a loose lead.

Jasper was really enthusiastic to learn once he understood the ‘game’, checking in regularly and walking on a lovely loose lead!

Well done guys! Looking forward to hearing how the homework goes! 🐾💜

🔥 🎆 Bonfire night 🎆 🔥

All dogs react differently, you don’t have to do all of these tips, hopefully at least one or two will help.

⚠️ Take firework training slow - have lots of noise and distractions indoors before moving outdoors to your garden and use a lead to avoid escape.

🏕️ Create a den using your dog’s cage, a table or by pulling the sofa forward and covering with a blanket - give your dog things they can snuggle or dig into to hide. Spray soft furnishings with Pet remedy spray to encourage calmness.

🎼 Music can help drown out the fireworks - try different genres and let me know what works for your dog in the comments!

🐾 Why Invest in Dog Training?🐾

Thinking about dog training but not sure if it’s worth it? Here’s why it’s one of the best investments you can make for both you and your pup:

💜 A Better Bond – Training helps build trust and understanding, deepening the relationship between you and your dog. You’ll learn more about what makes them tick, and they’ll learn to understand you, too!

❗️Safety First – A well-trained dog is a safer dog. Basic skills like recall, “leave it,” and walking calmly on a lead can prevent accidents and help keep your dog out of harm’s way.

🫱🏽‍🫲🏾 Good Manners, Less Stress – Imagine enjoying walks without pulling, or being able to greet guests without your dog jumping up! Training teaches good manners, so you can relax and enjoy life together.

🥳 Confidence & Fun – Dogs love learning new things! Training isn’t just about obedience; it gives your dog mental stimulation and boosts their confidence. Plus, it’s a great way to bond through fun activities like agility, nose work, and tricks.

🕰️ It’s for Life! – The skills you and your dog learn now will serve you both for years to come. Whether it’s preventing behaviour issues or preparing for new experiences, training is an investment that truly lasts. Even better, the techniques you pick up are transferable, so you’ll be prepared and more confident training any future dogs you bring into your family.

🎆 Firework Season Tips 🎆

Fireworks season is here, with events happening tonight and some next week! If your dog’s feeling anxious, playing calming music can make a big difference. Try setting up a cosy spot with their favourite blanket and putting on some music or a pet-friendly radio station.

Music Genres to Try:
🎶 Classical – soft and steady, great for mellow vibes.
🎶 Soft Jazz – gentle tones that can help ease tension.
🎶 Reggae – a surprising choice, but those slow beats can be super calming!
🎶 Acoustic or Soft Rock – familiar, easygoing sounds that many pets find soothing.

Pet-Friendly Radio Stations Tonight:
📻 Classic FM– check out their special Pet Classics to keep pets calm.
📻 BBC Radio 2– great for relaxing tunes that help take the edge off.
📻 Streaming Options– search "Pet Acoustics" on Spotify or Apple Music for playlists made just for pets. See this link for Radio 1’s pet playlist - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/brand/p0jzdy7l

It helps to start the music early so it blends into the background before things get noisy. Let us know if you find a tune or station your dog loves! 🐾

🎃 Halloween Reminder! 🎃

With Halloween just around the corner, here’s a quick refresher to keep our furry friends safe and calm:

🍬Trick-or-Treat Sweets are for Kids, Not Dogs: Chocolate and sweets can be dangerous for pups. Keep treats safely out of reach!
🧙🏼‍♀️Costumes Aren't for Every Dog: If they don’t love it, don’t force it. A simple bandana or collar might be all they need.
🚪Doorbell Overload: The constant knocking can be stressful. Create a safe, quiet space for them to relax if they’re anxious.
⌚️Avoid Peak Trick-or-Treat Times: Take your walks earlier in the evening or after the crowds have gone home to keep your dog calm and safe.

As we gear up for Halloween and the festive season, now’s a great time to train your dog to get used to costumes and decorations. Message me to set up a session, and let’s prepare your pup for an stress-free holiday season!

Have a fun and safe Halloween with your four-legged friend! 🐾👻

🐾 When We Have to Say Goodbye 🐾

There’s just something about losing a dog that hits so hard. They’re not just pets - they’re family, our best mates, and they somehow know how to be there exactly when we need them. When they’re gone, it can feel like a part of us is missing too. 💔

Sometimes, saying goodbye is the last act of kindness we can give them, even though it breaks our hearts. It’s a choice made from love, to let them go peacefully when staying would be too much for them. Remember, letting them rest doesn’t mean letting go of everything they meant to us.

If you’re missing your dog right now, please know you’re not alone. It’s completely okay to feel the weight of that loss. Take your time - remember them in little ways, keep the funny or sweet memories close, and give yourself space to feel whatever comes up.

If you feel like sharing, drop a memory or photo in the comments. 🌈🐕💜

🧩 Let Your Dog Work It Out: The Benefits of Problem-Solving! 🐾

Just like us, dogs benefit from using their brains to solve problems. Allowing your dog to work through challenges independently can boost their confidence, improve their cognitive skills, and strengthen your bond. Here’s why letting your dog figure things out on their own is so beneficial! 🐶💜

🐕‍🦺Encourages Independence: When dogs are given the opportunity to solve problems without direct intervention, they learn to trust their instincts and abilities. This can foster a sense of independence and self-confidence.

🧠Enhances Cognitive Skills: Engaging in problem-solving activities stimulates your dog's brain, promoting cognitive development. This can be especially beneficial for young puppies and older dogs, helping them stay mentally sharp.

🥱Reduces Boredom: Allowing your dog to work through challenges keeps them mentally engaged and can help reduce boredom-related behaviours, such as chewing or excessive barking.

💜Strengthens the Human-Dog Bond: When you create an environment that encourages problem-solving, you foster trust between you and your dog. They learn that you believe in their abilities, which can enhance your relationship.

💪🏼Promotes Patience and Resilience: Working through problems can teach dogs patience and resilience. They learn that not everything comes easily and that perseverance can lead to rewards.

🧩Variety in Activities: Introduce a variety of problem-solving activities, like puzzle toys, scent games, or hiding treats in different locations. This keeps things fresh and exciting for your dog!

👀Observation is Key: While it’s important to let your dog work through challenges, make sure to observe them. If they seem frustrated or stuck, offer gentle guidance without taking over the task completely.

Encouraging your dog to tackle challenges on their own can lead to a happier, more confident pup! 🐕💜

🐾 Progress in Dog Training: Every Journey is Unique! 🐕

When it comes to dog training, progress looks different for every dog – and that’s OK! Here are some important factors to keep in mind when measuring your dog’s progress:

✨ Realistic Timeframes: Training isn’t an overnight process. Just like us, dogs need time to learn, practice, and perfect new skills. Don’t be discouraged if it takes a while – patience is key!

✨ Puppies vs. Rescues: Puppies are learning everything for the first time, while rescue dogs may come with previous experiences or behaviours that take time to reshape. Both can make great progress, but their starting points may be very different.

✨ Breed Differences: Every breed has its own unique traits. Some dogs are quick learners, while others might need more repetition and consistency. Training should match the dog in front of you!

✨ Age Matters: While puppies soak up new information, older dogs can absolutely learn new tricks – they might just need a little extra patience and understanding.

✨ Previous Experiences: A dog’s past can heavily impact their behaviour and how they respond to training. Whether it’s a history of fear, bad habits, or neglect, their background could influence how they progress.

✨ Owner’s Ability & Consistency: Training is a team effort! Owners play a huge role in their dog’s progress. Consistency, patience, and understanding are key to seeing results.

✨ Environment & Routine: Dogs are creatures of habit. A consistent routine and a positive, supportive environment can do wonders for their training and confidence.

Progress isn’t always a straight line. Celebrate the small wins, and trust the process – your dog’s growth will come at its own pace!

Have questions about your dog's progress? Let’s chat! 🐾

🐾 Dogs Make Life Better! 🐶

It’s no secret – dogs are truly a person’s best friend, but did you know they bring so much more to our lives than just wagging tails and sloppy kisses? Here are some incredible benefits of having a dog by your side:

✨ Improved Mental Health: Dogs provide unconditional love and companionship, reducing feelings of loneliness and boosting happiness. They’re always there for you, no matter what!

✨ Increased Physical Activity: Daily walks and playtime with your pup keep you active, helping to improve your overall fitness and health.

✨ Lower Stress Levels: Just being around dogs can reduce cortisol (the stress hormone) and increase oxytocin (the feel-good hormone). Cuddles and belly rubs for the win!

✨ Social Connections: Owning a dog makes it easier to meet new people. Dog owners love chatting about their pets, and you’ll likely make friends at the park or during walks!

✨ A Routine and Purpose: Dogs thrive on routine, and having one helps keep your day structured. Plus, knowing your dog depends on you gives a great sense of purpose.

Dogs don’t just make our lives better – they make us better!
