Last night Mum and I attended the Oakhill Vets Equine First Aid Course 🐴 We are always trying to increase our knowledge so we can provide the best standard of care for every horse that enters our stables 🥰

It was a brilliant opportunity to establish bandaging techniques 🩹 learn more about what to do in various emergency scenarios🚨 practice checking equine vitals and was fab to have a full tour of the practice 🤩

Here at AVVP we work closely with these fantastic vets, they always go above and beyond and nothing is ever too much trouble 👌

🪄INDIBA saved a life!!! 🪄

This horse unfortunately sustained a nasty field accident over her right stifle in May 🥹 The vets stitched the site 3 times but she would not tolerate them 🙈 She ripped them out on every occasion despite their best efforts to dress the area 🩹cross tie her or use a cradle to prevent her being able to turn round and reach them 😔

The owners were at breaking point 😭 when they asked if there was anything I could do?!? 💔 I said I would try but it was the most severe wound I had ever seen (the 3rd picture was when I first met her) ….

🐴 During the first treatment the pain relief this horse received was unbelievable to see, she was swaying, moving closer, licking/chewing and in a trance 🥰 Despite this area being so so sore and aggravated she tolerated every treatment and over time I was able to increase the intensity/time I treated the area, as we watched it heal from the inside out 😮

🐴 This lovely mare had 10 INDIBA treatments over a 3 month period at varying intervals 🪄as well as round the clock care from her very dedicated owners who religiously cleaned the wound, used a wound spray daily and found a genius way of keeping it covered/protected 🤕

🤩 I had to share this result!!! She’s now back happy hacking and loving life with very grateful owners ❤️

🌟 I am very proud to announce that I have been appointed as the accredited trainer of INDIBA for the North West of England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Today, alongside an INDIBA specialist, Lower Fold Stables hosted our first Demo Day for other physiotherapists/specialists and I loved it 🪄 This involved providing information on the device, the science behind it, clinical research, case studies and a demonstration of how the device is used on the horses 🐴

This has got me thinking 💭 would any of my clients or fellow horse owners be interested in a demonstration to learn more about the modality and how it could be used to help your pride and joy??

Thank you Katie Appleby for your help today and Kath Vines Healing-Tree for your continued support as always 🥰

💙 With our Baby Boy due to arrive in February I have had a few enquiries about the yard and appointments 💙

🐴 I intend to try and work up until Christmas, all appointments already booked will go ahead and I have a few slots available for anyone wanting check ups before then 👌 January will depend on how I feel and how willing your pony is to stand still 😂🤪
I will be then be having a little time off. I will always be contactable at the end of the phone with any queries and if you do have an emergency please don’t hesitate to get in touch as I will help where I can ❤️‍🩹

I can continue to use the INDIBA 🪄 throughout pregnancy and this is actually easier for me, so if you’d like to give this a try now is a great time!!

🦄 The yard will operate as normal throughout the whole duration. I am very lucky to have the most brilliant team who can keep the yard running, so we can still continue to offer holiday livery and rehabilitation. I have 2 very capable riders, another physio lined up if required and a trainee in place who can use the INDIBA ❤️‍🩹
⭐️ We have some stables available between now and Christmas 🎄 if anyone needs us ⭐️

Thank you to everyone who has been supportive and understanding - I really do have the best clients 🥰
I will be sharing a plan for my return to work (when I have one). I will be doing more form the yard and have an extra stable for rehab next year (6 in total) so can hopefully help even more of your lovely ponies 🦄

We are all thrilled with how this leg has healed ❤️‍🩹

The first 2 weeks of treatment were done with the dressings in place and then continued without the bandages 🤕

Using the INDIBA 🪄 alongside the protocol advised by the vets we were able to remove the stitches earlier than anticipated, the wound has healed from the inside out meaning no proud flesh or scar tissue AND the hair is coming back chestnut (not white as anticipated)!!!

The stitching and care provided by Gillivervet has been second to none 👌 team work has certainly enabled us to get the best possible outcome

Our most recent in house patient unfortunately sustained some nasty wounds after a fall from a wagon ramp 🤕 Working alongside Gilliver Vets her recovery so far has been fantastic 🤞

Did you know the INDIBA can be used even when horses are on full box rest and when the legs are dressed with bandages. The radio frequency current passes from the probe (in my hand) to the return plate which is placed on the sternum (girth area) of the horse🐴

I can’t wait to share the end results ❤️‍🩹

⭐️ 3 YEARS AT LOWER FOLD STABLES ⭐️

I have no idea where the time has gone but this last 12 months has seen TREBLE the number of horses/ponies come through our doors 🤩 We are eternally grateful to every owner who has trusted us with their pride and joy 🐴🦄

☀️ The stables have seen a number of holiday liveries in which many owners comment that “they can fully relax on holiday knowing they are in our care” A huge compliment!!

❤️‍🩹 A large number of Rehabilitation cases have been a huge success.
🪄 The INDIBA has played a major part in reducing the healing time and enhancing the quality of repair in a number of different injuries to: suspensory ligaments, check ligaments, menisci, patella ligaments, SDFTs, sacroiliacs, sesmoidian ligaments, kissing spines and severe wounds Many have been referred through local vets and as far afield as Leahurst, Rainbow and Hambleton Equine Vets

🐎 The small individual rehab pens have been an asset in keeping the rehab horses sane whilst allowing for a bite of grass and controlled movement

🎨 The stables have all had a freshen up and we have a couple of exciting things coming up soon

💡 I am terrible at posting updates/case studies when I get so busy but if anyone has any questions about the services we provide please don’t ever hesitate to ask 💡

📝 The best kind of message to receive - it never gets old 💙

🔥 With the help of the INDIBA this horse has recovered from a ligament injury in a much quicker time than expected 💪🐎

🐎 KISSING SPINE 🐎 - is where the dorsal spinous processes (DSP’s) of the horses back either touch (impinge) or overlap (override)

✂️ In this case the DSP’s were thought to be touching especially when the horse was moving. 5 of the ligaments between the DSP’s were cut (Interspinous Ligament Desmotomy) in order to create more room in-between them.

🐴 The ligaments between the DSP’s are cut through a very small incision (approx 1-2 cm) in the skin (this is what remains visible in the below pictures) This technique is usually performed under standing sedation, is minimally-invasive and horses are often back in work quicker

💡 Photos show the changes along this horses back over time. The INDIBA was introduced at approximately 6 weeks post surgery;
- the scarring under the skin has significantly reduced
- the horse has NO back pain on palpation
- she is working well on the long reins/lunge
- the owner has been back on board hacking out

🐴 CHECK LIGAMENT INJURY 🐴

📸 Pictures taken 4 WEEKS apart 📸

🤕 Treatment - rest 🛌 ice 🧊 INDIBA 🌞 hand walking🚶‍♀️and controlled turn out 🐎

🌞 Treating with the INDIBA encourages the lesion to heal with fibres similar to those prior to the injury, it also reduces the build up of scar tissue therefore reducing the chance of re injury

🦴 Anatomy - The check ligament runs down the back of the front and rear cannon bones and attaches to the deep digital flexor tendon approximately 1/3 of the way down on the cannon bone.

🦿Function - helps the deep flexor tendon with shock absorption and prevent excessive lengthening of the tendon

🏩 Injury - can cause varying degrees of lameness, mild strains can present only swelling (oedema) and no lameness, whilst a severe tear can result in a lot of swelling and quite extreme lameness

👩‍⚕️ Diagnosis - on palpation swelling is present below the knee or hock. Ultrasonography is the most reliable diagnostic tool, a scan of both legs is most beneficial in order to compare

🤒 Other treatment methods include therapeutic ultrasound, PRP, stem cell treatment

🐴 LOWER FOLD STABLES - AVVP🐴

Its hard to believe that it’s been 2 YEARS since we welcomed our first patient at Lower Fold Stables for Rehabilitation!!
From there it has been a whirlwind of various Veterinary referrals from local vets as well as Rainbow Veterinary Hospital and Leahurst, plus a number of Holiday Liveries have been to stay for work and a pamper 💆‍♀️

Some have stayed a couple of weeks, a month or on occasion several months, and I am proud to say that every single one has settled in and been happy and relaxed in our yard. Each horse has been treated like our own with every individual need catered for.

🦄 I am not the best at posting updates, but we have been continually adapting our facilities to provide the BEST rehabilitation environment we can, as well as adding to the equipment we have one site

🖼 We have built 6 small individual grass paddocks to allow for controlled turn out, this helps to keep each horse level headed during rehab and I believe stops the massive explosions we often see when horses are allowed back out after recovery. (Also ideal for those on restricted grazing)

☀️ We have introduced the INDIBA (first practice in the North West) into our equipment, which has been approved by all insurance companies approached

🎥 We have installed an in stable camera to allow us to constantly monitor the horses, even when not on site

❤️‍🩹 Having these facilities means I can treat patients intensively and the results we have obtained are so rewarding. I WILL share more soon ❤️‍🩹

💙 I was contacted by Cal’s owner after he sustained a nasty fall in the field which left him with;
- a non displaced fracture of the right ilial wing (pelvis)
- desmopathy (inflammation) of the left dorsal sacral ligament
- desmopathy of the supraspinous ligament
- swelling in the lumbosacral region 💙

⭐️ Having never treated a fractured pelvis with the INDIBA I followed the advice of fellow practitioners and the result has been outstanding, with vets commenting on the speed of healing ❤️‍🩹 being much quicker than anticipated ⭐️

After just 4 months of following the rehab program (to the letter) his owner has been able to get back on board. We initially treated the fracture and then the muscles/ligaments in the affected area

His owner Caroline West - Equestrian Fitness Consultant works with riders and rehabilitates people following injuries, therefore knows the importance of slow, progressive rehabilitation in order to optimise recovery.

Fingers crossed that he will return to his full work program, pre injury, in time 🤞

🥰 Positive progress for a pony initially given a poor prognosis 🥰

Diagnosis; Bilateral hind limb suspensory ligament branch desmitis

Jerry;
- Stayed with us for 2 weeks
- Received 6 INDIBA treatments
- Was fed a restricted diet to help reduce weight (weight reduction on tape 451kgs -> 432kgs)
- Had daily turnout in one of our small individual grass paddocks (upon vet advice)
- Was massaged and benefited from electro therapies to release compensatory tension and soreness

With the owner taking meticulous care of Jerry and him receiving the care, rehab and weight loss he needed he is heading on the right path.

The Vet commented there is a “sizeable improvement” in his suspensory ligaments following the INDIBA treatments 👌

We are all thrilled!!! Onwards and upwards from here now 🤞

🦄 We don’t just offer in house rehabilitation, Holiday livery is available too 🥰

Lulu came to stay for 1 week for exercise, physio and weight maintenance 💪 (I’m sure you will all agree her owner has done a fab job of getting her trim)

She received;
- exercise as requested by her owner 🐎
- physiotherapy, including hands on massage 💆‍♀️ H Wave, INDIBA and stretching
- daily turnout in the woodchip pen (no grass due to previous struggles with her weight)
- a maintained diet of her usual feed and weighed hay
- a bath 🛁 and solarium 🌞

She settled like she’d lived with us forever and went home a happy horse ❤️
