Teeth Cleaning Appointment from today. On consultation I agreed we could clean the teeth and after one session we have removed some plaque. We recommend 2 more sessions and I used Orozyme gel to break down the plaque and the Emmi pet ultrasound tooth brush and paste to clean all around the teeth also removing plaque. Great results for this little fella Jo x

The role of a groomer and dog teeth cleaning

I’ve been researching dog teeth cleaning over the last few months and I wanted to make sure we are providing a service that fits with the guidance from Vets and the Animal Welfare Act. We have all had some professional training as a result of this and I have reviewed how we deliver this to you.

In my research, I’ve discovered that the Vet bodies do not advise using a metal dental scrapper to remove plaque. This is more of a dental practice and can cause pain and discomfort to the dog.

It’s the pressure and force on the tooth that can cause the dogs discomfort or pain and we want the dogs to have a good positive experience in our grooming salon and not relate it to a negative experience.

The EmmiPet tooth brush has an ultrasound effect on the teeth via the bristles, it cleans the bacteria from the teeth with the tooth paste by producing millions of nano bubbles that get all around the mouth and break down plaque. Your dogs teeth can have different grades of plaque some we can work on, some we will refer you to a Vet. if we think your dog has inflamed gums, wobbly teeth etc then we will refer you. This is likely to be painful and require vet treatment.

What we do:

Consultation
Check the gums for disease, check pain levels, check if there are any wobbly teeth, check the risk to the dog or groomer.

- Prevent long terms plaque build up
- Consult on plaque level
- Puppy desensitise the feeling of brushing, 5 mins sessions
- Clean the teeth 🦷
- Remove bacteria 🦠
- Remove smells 👃
- Remove plaque over a long term process of sessions

After vets treatment, we can help with regular cleaning, or if the risk is too high for older dogs then we require a vet referral to us to remove the plaque and bacteria. If there is heavy plaque and the vet refers to us for cleaning it may take 3-10 sessions over 2-3 weeks to soften plaque in this way without harm or pain to the dog.

Bacteria can go into the blood stream and affect organs. So it’s important to keep on top of regular cleaning.

How it works
The tooth brush rests on the teeth breaking down the plaque and tackling bacteria. This is done for 20-25 mins per session. We then pick and flick the plaque off once it gets softer. We apply Orozyme Gel before they leave as this help prevent plaque from continuing to build.

Oral health should be part of your regular grooming routine to prevent health issues and maintain good hygiene for your dogs. We can also advise on cleaning at home between sessions.

We recommend your dogs teeth are cleaned at least twice a week by you or a grooming professional. If prone to plaque build up or smelly breath.

We advise number of sessions and price and also the possibility of a deep clean at the Vets and then maintenance with us. We will work with you and the Vet on what’s best for your dog.

It’s a long term process to support healthy Oral Care for your dog, just the way we take care of our teeth. This long term approach helps to reduce major Vet Dental bills.

Jo, Sadie Simmons and Kute Kuts by Kara will be offering teeth cleaning with a consultation from next week with the prices in the flyer.

We are also offering student bookings, who have also had the same training but not yet have the opportunity to practice on dogs. This service is £10 per dog.

We have always recommended regular cleaning to keep plaque at bay, depending on the level of plaque on the teeth.
