Rushton dog rescue at Freedom Farm. themselves..

Rushton dog rescue was founded nearly 15 years ago by Cindi Mcneil after her Partner Timothy Rushton passed away. Rushton dog rescue is a U.K. registered charity- 1139999. The charity is now run by Mother & Daughter Duo Cindi & Zoe. Who live, breath & have dedicated their whole lives to saving those who need them most. Rushton is now lucky enough to have their very own beautiful sanctuary which is

named Freedom Farm, in the heart of Somerset, with 40 + kennels, vet room, stables, fields, woodlands & many various buildings, all set in a stunning 15 acres. The animals spend the majority of the day running free & socialising together, they are not kennelled for long periods & the charity’s ethos includes dogs being able to express themselves freely without any pressures or restrictions. Freedom Farm is also home to four rescue Shetland ponies, a horse, 3 ducks & a cat. Many dogs on site are permanent sanctuary dogs for various reasons, mostly through fear of humans, medical issues & many Chinese meat trade survivors who have been so terrorised by their abusers they require a pressure free life which is what Rushton give them. Rushton rescue dogs from various places, primarily the Chinese meat trade which the charity have successfully saved hundreds & hundreds from over a 5 year period. Rushton have also saved dogs from a multitude of countries & always prioritise their local U.K. they wouldn’t have it any other way!

GROOMING DAY TODAY 🛁🤍

We’ve got our Penny here today grooming some of the dogs, Teddy has had his pamper.. he’s so beautiful!

This is the dog who was going to be left in the shed as his owner was moving abroad, good job we got to him in time as he would of been just left outside, we don’t think he’s ever had a professional groom, he was so scared but he did it and now looks wonderful!
He’s going into be neutered tomorrow too!

Lots of lovely smelling dogs at freedom farm today 🤍

Sandy chops has just come running in to tell us that the fundraiser Adult social services are doing is super close to the goal of £500!! - he’s super excited with the news and is apparently looking forward to spending it all on treats 😱 little does Sandy chop know he’s most definitely not purchasing £500 worth of snacks… it shall be going towards his vets bills, boring we know sandy chops but seems a more sensible idea, don’t you think!

✨CHEWIE UPDATE ✨

The boy who nearly didn’t make it, so abused his liver took a battering… well…. He went back to the vets yesterday and guess what?!?!… his liver is functioning normally 🎉 this is just incredible, what a strong boy!

He’s also now weighing 10.3KG he’s a beautiful chunky chocolate boy!

So the plan is now, next Friday he is going in for surgery, his neuter and his eye can finally be sorted! The vets are hoping they can save his eye.. where he’s gained weight and muscle now his eye is pushing more forward which is good, hopefully they can save it by cutting and pinning the skin back so the eye travels forward!

So so proud of our lad, what a come back! We will keep you all updated of course ❤️

✨SPRINGER BOY UPDATE ✨

He’s been into the vets for a check, he’s a little underweight, his heart is nice and clear, he was perfectly well behaved.

We’ve ran his bloods, his vital organs are all coming back clear 🎉
we think the drinking water obsession is due to him not having access to it regularly so now he has it’s a novelty and he doesn’t want it to end, we’ve told him he will always have fresh water so he doesn’t need to worry!

We will give him a little while to chill before he goes into be neutered then he will be up for adoption!

He’s an absolute little delight, well done brave boy.

If you could donate towards his vet care we would highly appreciate it, this boy was about to be dumped at our gate in the dark…

This boy has found himself at freedom farm, under some strange circumstances. The other night in the dark and freezing cold we saw some people at our gates.. we got down there straight away to find them with a dog. We had zero indication that these people were coming to freedom farm, it was late, it was dark, it was a little strange. They told us that they had this Springer they couldn’t keep and had to leave him here… very cagey about the length of time they had him and where he came from. We did the relevant things and of course took the springer off them.. he would of been left at our gates regardless 💔
it was just a good job we saw what was happening so he wasn’t left out in the freezing cold.

We scanned him.. he is microchipped to his breeder whom we have contacted and they have expressed they are more than happy for him to stay here as they don’t want him back themselves and as he may be poorly they do not want the medical bill. They are happy for him to be here and receive the care he requires. we have gained the information that he is 9 years old and he’s an English springer. Good job for us rescues eh .. picking up the pieces for those breeders!

We believe he may have been used as a stud dog, we have scanned all dogslost sights, he isn’t flagging up anywhere as stolen.. his chip has never been changed in 9 years.

he’s drinking A-LOT of water… we will get him into the vets to be checked and run his bloods, maybe he’s been dumped because he’s ill? What we do know is that we will do all we can for him, we will ensure he is safe for the rest of his life.

If anyone has any information on this chap then please do private message us, shall remain confidential.

Somerset Adult Social Care services are doing a fundraiser for us at rushton for ‘Sandy Chops’ the boy we took in after his owner went to hospital and never sadly returned. If you remember we shared with you that the family in charge of the finances refused to help us with monies for Sandy and instead wanted us to just “Put it to sleep” obviously we refused.

The social services team have been wonderful and wanted to help by doing their own fundraising for Sandy chops, how lovely is that!! You can see what they are doing to raise the funds via the link below.. please support them if able, all funds raised come directly to Rushton.

We are so grateful for their kindness ❤️

SPARKY ✨
He enjoyed his walk with his volunteers ‘Georgie & Callum’ they come and get him every week and take him out off site for a hike!

He’s been going to a woodland area recently and he’s been really enjoying it, he even had a natural carrot chew when he stopped for a break!

They have both said they can see a real positive calming change in Sparky, we’ve been working hard with him so he knows he can receive love and fuss without knocking you over, he’s an absolute love of a dog!

Super proud of you Sparky, you’ve come such a long way ✨

Rita is positively popping in ‘Party Pupper’ by which celebrates new beginnings, joy and optimism. A fitting tribute to the world of rescue.⁣

Our Story

We aim to rescue dogs from all over the world, especially from the Chinese meat trade and strays from other countries that have no help and need a lifeline. We also take dogs from the general public in the UK if they can no longer cater for their needs. We love each dog as if it is our own, no matter where they have come from, ensuring they receive the correct vet care. We home dogs responsibly and provide back-up for life.
