Playing Tunnel entry games this week during agility sessions.... The dogs already understand what a Tunnel obstacle is and have a verbal and body cue for the obstacle.
The next game is to teach a tunnel entry is not visable to the dog, a 'blind entry'.
We progressed onto the dog turning back in the correct direction from the exit of a curved tunnel.

The Tyre in a Balance Grid: We want to teach our
dogs that the tyre is an object to stride in to. Let’s educate our dogs about what the tyre is, and is not, and to be respectful of this obstacle for their safety.

Basketball 🏀 Balance
From 2 paws on a solid stationary object, grow the skill so the dog can move it themselves by switching up to a basketball.
Great confidence, body strength and proprioception skills are needed for this game.
Your dog has impulses all the time, whether that’s for movement, scents, tastes, people, other dogs – the choices are endless! However, you don’t want them to be interacting with those things all the time. Neither do you want to be constantly nagging them!Instead, you want to inspire them to control themselves around these distractions and impulses. Self-control, or impulse control, is the concept which enables your dog to see something they value or have a desire for, and still be able to control themselves.
Training your dog is a 24/7 approach, not just 1hour at a dog training class.
By training FOR the situation it sets your dog up for success, we don't want our dogs to be worried or overwhelmed when experiencing new things.
When the dog is ready we start to open up their world so they see novelty as nothing to worry about.
By being on a boundary - a raised bed, mat or blanket - in a calm way promotes self-control and is a safe zone to chill out. Boundaries are a valuable part of your management strategies for a settled dog, they can be transitioned into every day life.
Foundation Parkour games using obstacles from home, some objects like vacuum cleaners can be worrying to some dogs. Build optimism and confidence by showing the dog a different picture and use just part of item.
Duration down using a stable piece of equipment.
Ask your dog to down on the item with all four paws aligned and tail straight. Walk around the item and see how long your dog can down without breaking position.
This exercise will help improve your dog’s duration position, posture, core strength and general physical form so that they can perform their best in any sport. Also, the exercise is great addition to your dog’s warm up routine.

Concept games for a dog who loves to chase birds more than anything. The bird offers movement and variety, dogs love movement and variety in movement.
The bird decides to join us in a games session at our training venue. We took the opportunity to work with the bird.
The games we chose were:
DMT (Distraction Mark Treat) in the presents of a bird. A dog asks itself 3 question: Am I aware? Is it important? Is it good or bad? DMT answers the second question - is it important? We want the dog to answer NO to thus question (Disengagement).
Can the dog do something positive with the owner in the presents of the bird (give a paw) instead of chasing the bird (focus on a task & engagement with the owner).
Boundaries - the dog has value in staying on the boundary (impulse control).
Management - management is training (the dog is on a long line). If you let you dog consistently rehearse a behaviour, that behaviour will become stronger.

Calm joy or the quiet pleasure we feel when our needs have been met is known as 'Contentment'. We are in harmony with ourselves and our surroundings.
Researchers Monnot and Beehr describe contentment as “low in activation,” “high positive valence,” and “the lack of anxiety” (2014).
Try and identify your dogs needs and try to do your best to meet them. If you engage your puppy or dog in an activity that has meaning to them, it will promote contentment, leading to calmness.
A very small toy poodle had a negative start in life living in very apaling conditions along with many other dogs.
After being rehomed, the new owner recognised the need to grow optimism and confidence and decided to do something about it.
Agility, Canine Parkour and Concept Games Based Training will meet a dog's needs allowing them to explore the world either by running, jumping, climbing, scrambling on, in, under, through objects in the environment, playing with their owners while other dogs are present, sniffing, searching, mental growth, body awareness will meet most dog's needs. This will lead to contentment and calmness will follow.
