Sending love to anyone who has ever lost a pet. They are more than just pets. They become family and friends to us when they enter our lives.

Wow! Massive thank you to the Laurencekirk and District Rotary Club for this. To say I'm feeling very excited and proud is just a bit of an understatement!

Also another huge Thank You to my wonderful clients and of course to those who nominated me. I never, in a million years, imagined I'd receive anything like this for just doing my job!

From the bottom of my heart, thank you very, very much πŸ’šπŸΎ

The Competitions and Marketing Authority (CMA) are carrying out a review of the veterinary services market for household pets.

They are looking to hear from pet owners who have paid for veterinary services in the last 3 years and professionals who currently work in a veterinary practice.

It's been a very busy and at times, very hot few weeks!

For the sake of our doggies' health I have tried to be flexible around the conditions and have cancelled some walks where doggy parents have been at home with them, shortened some walks, changed some walk times to cooler times of the day and changed some walks to home visits; and generally taking our time for a slower, less exerting pace involving lots of brain games!

Lots of fabulous cats have been looked after too, enabling their mums and dads to have a break away, including several who prefer not to be photographed on here.

Also provided a bit of cover for the lovely Fit and Fun Pet Care of Marykirk! πŸ’œπŸ’šπŸΎ

Tips on caring for animals during hot weather written by the British Veterinary Association - BVA , link below.

Heat stroke can be very serious - symptoms may show as heavy panting, excessive drooling, lethargy, drowsiness, red gums, high temperature, vomiting, lack of co-ordination or collapsing.

Prevention is always better than cure, but if you suspect your pet may be showing symptoms of heat stroke, contact your Vet urgently.

With holiday season on the horizon you might be thinking about doggy / other pet care while you're away so I thought I'd reshare an article I wrote last year about home boarding.

Dog day care and home boarding licencing principles still apply at this time (March 2023).

Home boarding is where the pet carer hosts your pet in their home and they must hold a local authority issued licence, as do kennels and catteries.

No licence is required if the pet carer stays overnight in your home or visits daily, but do ensure that you thoroughly research your pet carer beforehand for (at a minimum and not limited to) relevant experience, qualifications / animal first aid certification, integrity and check they hold valid, appropriate business insurance cover.

The local authority (dog wardens) issue day care / boarding licences and possess the most up to date database of licenced home boarders in your area. As them for details of licenced boarders in your area.

Thanks for reading πŸ’šπŸΎ

Puppy and Doggy Day Care / Home Boarding

Quite frequently I receive enquiries for puppy or doggy day care and more seasonally, for home boarding in my own home.
Unfortunately for many different reasons, I do not provide these services, but the main and possibly the most important reason from your, the client's perspective, that I don’t offer these services is because I am not licenced to provide them.

Dog day care and home boarding are currently regulated under the Animal Boarding Establishments Act 1963 and Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006, and come under the guidance of our local authority.

The Dog Wardens at the Environmental Health Department, Aberdeenshire Council are the licence issuers for this area, and they hold a list of approved dog day care and home boarding facilities.

The licencing application process is detailed and includes veterinary inspections as well as requirements for procedures including, but not limited to:

the animal has suitable accommodation and bedding;
dietary needs are met;
adequate and appropriate exercise plan is in place;
measures are in place to control infectious disease including isolation areas;
administrative requirements such as detailed record keeping;
appropriate business insurance cover;
The licence holder must also display their valid licence in a prominent area at their premises.

The above mentioned regulation also applies to the more traditional kennel and cattery establishments.

So please, always check with your service provider that they are licenced for the services they offer and if in any doubt, check with the Dog Wardens at Aberdeenshire Council.

Hope this information is helpful – thank you for taking the time to read πŸ’šπŸΎ
