Arran The Bird Box Maker I really like nature and also doing woodwork with my Dad, so to make some pocket money, I set up Arran The Bird Box Maker.

Boxes can be made of local larch and/or a variety of local hardwoods for any species of bird.

It's been a busy weekend for me finishing and delivering some bird boxes. I also had to deliver the first bird table out of the workshop! It's about 6ft tall (any height can be made) and made from Local larch. All the joints have been glued (by Dad) and screwed so they won't move!

I made the most of my last day off before school starts again! Dad took me to the sawmill at Fasque Timber Products to pick up some supplies. We came home and made a start to all the orders.

I've been busy making some different shaped bird boxes as a trial. There is one which is diamond shaped (wrens), one with an open front (robins & sparrows) and one rectangular one (blue tit, chaffinch and other garden birds.

The photos let you see what sort of thing I'm going to make.

The open front box was made with some old larch that had weathered a bit, that's why it's more grey than the others.

The rectangular one had a reused slate roof with copper nails to hold it on - that's what they use on a house roof!

I am Arran The Bird Box Maker and I am nearly 8 years old. I was making bird boxes for fun when Jenny at Jaggy Thistle Crafts kindly offered to buy one. After that, I thought it would be a fun way to make some pocket money, I love nature and woodworking.

I'm trying to build up so photos of the things I make which will take a little while.

If you would like to order a bird box please let me know. I can make them for any specific species of bird and to be put up anywhere. The one in the photo was for housemartins that Jenny wanted to nest at her house.
