Flyball is a dog sport in which teams of dogs race against each other from a start/finish line, over a line of hurdles, to a box that releases a tennis ball to be caught when the dog presses the spring-loaded pad, then back to their handlers while carrying the ball. Flyball is run in teams of four dogs, as a relay. please look at our web site http://flyballteams.wix.com/scorchinpawz

Next up we have Artie "Cheese" but first we want to do a massive shout out to his handler who is celebrating her birthday today!! πŸŽ‚πŸΎπŸΎ so Happy Birthday Ali!!!

This was Arties / Cheeeeese, 2nd UK Flyball League champs, last year he had a pc slot and raced against some lovely stooge dogs from a different team! Both him and Ali have worked their socks off this year and he's competed in lots of little league events! Working on his chase drive and he is now at a point where he is ready for racing in the team 🍾🍾πŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺ At this years champs he competed in little league pairs with Ren! He didn't put a paw wrong! Definitely showed naughty chasey Ren how to do it properly!! We are hopeful that next year he will be attending the champs as a integral part of our league team! ✨️✨️✨️✨️

Next shout out is to our gorgeous little resident Patterdale, who is our teams little height dog. Evvie sets the jump height at a mere 6" for the rest of our team! She has the privilege of having 2 handlers, one of our longest standing team members releases her and her owner calls her back! Evvie absolutely loves balls and if another dog has spat one you can put money on little Ev picking it up! πŸ˜„πŸ˜„ she runs her little heart out at every comp and this year's UK Flyball League champs was no different! This was her 3rd year competing at the champs and she didn't let her team down, her little legs running as fast as she could! Also running mid pack when she usually runs anchor! Well done Evvie, Bev and Rita πŸ’•πŸ’•πŸ‘πŸ‘ team work makes the dream work πŸ’•πŸ’• Her fastest time was 6.44seconds

08/09/2024

Next up we have Scrippy, he raced in league singles division 6 at the UK Flyball League Championships in August. Racing his little pawz off and coming 3rd!πŸ₯³πŸ₯³πŸ₯³ After not long joining the team Script could just do everything! Hes been a fantastic dog to train, and
Lives to please! This was his first ever champs competing after coming last year and doing a pc slot and we are sure it certainly won't be his last! He's now going to take a bit of time away from comps to really work on perfecting a nice high and snappy turn. We are really proud of him and his handler and can't wait to see him lining up on the mats in a team! He ran a best time of 3.99 l2l and is only one or two dogs in our club to run sub 4!!! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Next up our naughty little Romanian rescue Millie, who raced as anchor for our league team. This is her second championships. Balls were sometimes optional this weekend, box turns can be beautiful or optional πŸ˜… she runs last dog in our team as she isn't keen on being ran onto by another dog. But boy she ran her absolute socks off! She had the privilege at this champs of being ran by two handlers! (Although only one photo of one handler was purchased πŸ€ͺ) she did however run her fastest time for her other handler πŸ˜…πŸ˜‰ running 4.4 line to line! Well done to Mille and her team of handlers πŸ™ŒπŸ™ŒπŸ™Œ

Out next big shout out goes to Lexie!

Lex joined Scorchin' Pawz when we first became Scorchin' just over 10 years ago!!
She's been with us from the start. Training on grass at Harbury rugby club and competing outside with the BFA. Training with us inside at henley in arden during the winter months, then moving to full time indoor training and racing for UKFL. She stayed with us when we moved to our new venue at Warwickshire college. Shes also trained and competed with our good friends Trailblazers Flyball team .
Lex started off with just one handler, Dale, but soon Janette also joined the team, who loved to box load for Lex ❀️❀️

Shes been part of our successful league team over many years and has helped many new young dogs develop. She was part of our league team who won their division at last year's UK Flyball League Championships and this year she had one last race before hanging up her racing pawz. ❀️❀️ Our team captain has always had a soft spot this occasionally naughty Merley collie, and has ran her at training on numerous occasions. We wish you all the best for your retirement Lex, you certainly deserve it 😊❀️

Our next shout out goes to the absolutely amazing Pebbles and her Handler San!! This dog has truly amd utterly knocked our socks off!

3 weeks before the champs Skye (Pebbles sister) unfortunately got an injury. Skye was meant to be running little league singles, but unfortunately that was going to be no more πŸ˜•. Pebbles at this point was doing one jump box and return. Had always trained double lane and was incredibly focused. So we thought let's give her a go at a full run at training. Wow just wow she was incredible! So we decided we would enter her in Skyes place.

Well she only went and ran every leg clean with a best l2l time of 4.47 seconds!!! For her debut! First ever competition!!!! And came away with a well deserved 1st place!

We could not be prouder of this pair!!! πŸ₯³πŸ₯³πŸ˜πŸ˜ this weekend at training we have been working on her full runs as pairs to get her ready for running in a team!!!

This perfect little dude and his handler just give and give to the team!!
Rave is our resident Mr perfect. The spaniel that can do no wrong 😍😍😍😍 On Saturday at the UK Flyball League Championships he gave his all as part of our team. Running consistently as start dog, and having multiple dogs running onto him, holding his times and running his legs off!! Monday he hit the lanes again racing in singles league 16, and of course Mr P brought home 1st place!!!

This amazing talent and consistent times would be nothing without his amazing handler Sue! She has done an amazing job training Rave and is also the best in the club on starts. Not only did she run Rave on Sat and Monday, she also helped others in the club on their starts on Friday and released both Decker and Script in their singles races on Monday too. To top that off she has captined our league team this year for competitions, including leading them at the champs. With a rocky start, a collision (both dogs are fine thankfully) a retiree dog and thus multiple changes to the running order she did a fabulous job of leading the team. For which we are all truly grateful πŸ™ so THANK YOU SUE! and well deserved congratulations to you and Rave πŸ₯³πŸ₯³πŸ₯³

πŸ”₯🎾 MEMBER OF THE QUARTER 🎾πŸ”₯

Our second winner who we wish to celebrate is one of our dogs, Ringo πŸŽ‰

Here are some of the lovely comments made by those who voted:

* "He's come along so much in the last couple of months, finally picking up his toy and now a ball!! Really proud of him"
* "Because he has worked so hard and finally picks up a ball having never been interested in anything other than his tuggy!"
* "More focussed, less chasey, getting the ball which he started with 0 interest in! Smashing his PC slots."

A message from our captain: Really proud with how Ringo is progressing, he's a lovely dog with lots of energy! It's clear that his handler has been working hard with him at home to teach him to pick up a ball!

Congratulations Ringo πŸŽ‰

πŸ”₯🎾 MEMBER OF THE QUARTER 🎾πŸ”₯

This quarter we actually have two winners. Our first winner who we wish to celebrate is our teammate Sue πŸŽ‰

Here are some of the lovely comments made by those who voted:

* "In charge with support and helping the line up, of our league team at competition events."
* "for all the help she's given organising and supporting the team at competitions"
* "Sue has led the team in the past few competitions fantastically. She is always looking at getting the best for the team and is very supportive"

A message from our captain: I'm just very grateful she has stepped up and taken the lead when I haven't been able to make competitions. She's organised the team impeccably well and that's showing in them winning heats and placing in the divisons and also improving on their seed time at every competition! I am very very proud of her ❀️

Congratulations Sue πŸŽ‰

This charity is very close to our flyball teams hearts, having helped the loved ones of two of our flyball family, we are forever in their debt. Please donate if you can, if you can't please share πŸ™

Join us as we come together to remember our loved ones with a brand-new heartfelt art installation located at the stunning grounds of National Trust - Coughton Court. πŸ’–

Taking place between Friday 26th July and Sunday 11th August, the installation will see more than 1,000 locally crafted, red, metal butterflies lining the river bank and taking flight over the bridge. πŸ¦‹

Each butterfly will represent a loved one who is sadly no longer with us, and we invite you to make a dedication of your own and donate to The Myton Hospices in return for your very own butterfly, so that you can take home a small part of this poignant display. πŸ¦‹β€

Your butterfly purchase includes one free visit for up to 8 people to view the installation at Coughton Court, National Trust property. πŸ¦‹

Congratulations Decker and handler Felicity! πŸ₯³

Decker has been an absolute dream to train, other than his pesky backfoot. He's been with us since he was about 6months old and has an increadible work ethic and is incredibly focused on his handler.

He has never been bothered by the other dogs and thus we knew he would thrive in his first ever league team environment and he didn't disappoint! He is also proving to be one of the teams quickest dogs running a fastest leg of 4.08 seconds πŸ”₯

He has ran in lots of little league events singles and pairs, thanks to Cambridgeshire Flyball Club .

We cant wait to see what Decker achieves in his flyball career! πŸ†

Yesterday we attended Cambridgeshire Flyball Club fun event, which we absolutely love for our up and coming dogs!

We took quite a few of our newer dogs, there will be a video to follow! But here's a little round up of all of their achievements.

Skye, ran 6 clean heats, with a fastest time of 5.16, and came 4th in her Division.

Script, ran 7 clean heats, with a fastest time of 4.32, which was the fastest time in the division, and he came 2nd.

Decker and Parker, came 2nd in their divsion, with a fastest time of 11.79.

Ren and Artie, came 3rd in their division, with a fastest time of 9.25, (which 2nd fastest time in the division and were only beaten by a team running 0.02 seconds faster!)

Evvie and Penny came 3rd in their division with a fastest time of 12.34.

Ringo and Pebbles rocked their precadet slots!

And our little Parker won the Quinn award - most improved dog of the day πŸ₯°πŸ₯°πŸ₯°πŸ₯°

Thrilled with the progress of all dogs and handlers ❀️❀️

Last but not least, our very own resident Patterdale, Evvie.

This little fire Cracker gives her all every single league race! She sets the jump height for our team at 6". The best things come in small packages and our little Evvie isn't any different!

Shes a funny little dog who often makes us laugh with her antics (she went through a stage recently of jumping on people laps.... mid race!) We've worked hard to stop this as much as its been a highlight and also gained her thr biggest character award!

She's worked her little socks off and has managed to achieve her Cadet Advance Pin!! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ we are so proud of you Ev and your handler Bev (its not confusing honest πŸ˜†πŸ˜†) along with your surrogate handler Rita. Well done πŸ‘βœ”οΈ she also obviously helped her team win their division at the weekend! There's no stopping her ❀️❀️❀️❀️

Scorchin’ Rockets Races at Newark hosted by Junkyard Dogs Flyball Teams

Another great competition for our Scorchin Rockets Squad, consisting of Rave, Evvie, Penny and Millie, who brought home first place in their division, prevailing against three other teams, thanks to completing the highest number of clean runs.
The team started on a high note taking a win in our first race, which was also the first race of the day! A strong start!
Our Cocker Spaniel Rave made his handler Sue and the whole team proud by showing relentless consistency and unwavering stamina. All the meticulous training and attention to detail Sue and Rave put into getting their starts right are paying off as the team have been able to get as close to a perfect start as possible. We are also excited to announce that with the total number of points collected at today’s race, Rave is now the team’s highest ranking paw-thlete in terms of pawz.
We kept up the momentum and took the second race too! Whilst we weren’t the fastest team, our endurance and consistency in completing clean runs allowed us to emerge victorious in this second race.
After not completing her box turns during race 1 and 2, Millie finally remembered her training and graced us with three clean box turns during race three, which made race three a highlight for her handlers Jess and Seb, despite the race being a loss overall. Her improvements week-on-week didn’t go unnoticed by the UKFL as she was put forward for special recognition award for biggest improvement thanks Donna from Elements Flyball Team
It’s also worth call-out out Bev and her little Patterdale Terrier Evvie whose endurance today was more than commendable. Evvie’s little legs have to work that much more to carry her through six races and she did an excellent job keeping at her speed up as much as was possible against the natural onset of fatigue as the day went on.
A huge shout out should also go to our Springer Spaniel Penny, who despite not retrieving her ball during warm-ups at times, has not let us down throughout the remainder of our racing day. Her handler Mandy deserves a lot of credit for putting in the hours with Penny, with the help of our team captain Katy.
We finished the day the same way we had started it; with a win. Despite the long day of racing having taking a toll on the squad, they pushed through regardless and secured a win thanks to a higher number of cleanly completed legs.
The team’s best race time of the day was a whopping 22.32sec, which we are hugely proud of given the time that had passed since our four dogs last raced in this combination. There is also something to be said about the team’s ability to complete faultless runs. Four races in, 10 out of 12 legs were clean runs whilst by the end of the day 14 out of a total of 18 legs were executed cleanly.
Join us in congratulating Evvie for belatedly receiving her Cadette Advanced badge, which had been awarded last year, and Millie for being awarded and given her Cadette Advanced badge today.
Thanks to our lovely Rita who came along today despite her good-boi Zack not actually taking part in the race. Your help with little Evie is greatly appreciated by Bev and your company enjoyed by the entire team.

Finally, we wanted to express our gratitude to Di, Kay Ainsworth and her husband Stephen Ainsworth from Trailblazers Flyball team who were giving us a hand in moving the box and getting our races recorded as we were low on numbers. The day wouldn’t have run nowhere near as smoothly without you. So thank you πŸ™πŸ™

We've got a lot of news to share this from today!!

We will start with awesome little Millie. The team raced today at Newark, and not only did she help her team win first placeπŸ₯‡πŸ₯‡!!! She also gained her Cadet Advanced award πŸ…πŸ… She was also awarded most improved dog! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ Well done Millie and her handler Jess!

05/04/2024

This is a rather long one!
So last weekend we also had a league team racing at owestry. We were seeded last in our division. Unfortunately Decker our super speedy collie injured his pads the week prior and therefore couldn't join the team πŸ˜• this meant we had 4 dogs, one of which (Parker) was new to team racing but has done amazingly at training. However both him and Penny have the same handler. We'd practiced once at training having another handler hold one of them whilst the other ran and it went quite well, but we didn't get chance to practice in a full team line up πŸ™ˆ.. Parker got measured and we think this blew his little mind, bless him, he's not the most confident dog and isn't a massive fan of change. . . But we thought we'd see what we could do.

Race one Rave, Penny, Evvie, Parker
Rave ran paw perfect, Penny decided jumps were optional both to the box and back after having a sniff of her lead before running up πŸ™ˆ Evvie ran perfectly too, Parker was last dog, he ran up beautifully but decided jumps were optional on the return. This continued for the 3 heats πŸ™ˆ

Second race, Rave, Penny, Evvie, Parker
We did warm up with wings for Parker to try to encourage him to go over the jumps on the return and he still ran around them on the way back. But we thought we'd give him one more try. Rave, Penny and Evvie all ran perfectly in all 3 heats, Parker ran down well, but again decided the jumps were optional on the return.

Race 3 we had to come up with another plan....We had put Artie on the paper work just in case. He had ran so well in league singles the previous day, we thought we'd bring him out and give him a try. He would need to run 4th dog (he is usually first) and has done pairs but not much team training as we are working really hard on his chasing. But we figured as we were bottom of our division with Decker, without him we would be quite a bit slower than the other teams anyway. So it would be likely Artie wouldn't be running head to head and we hoped it would help ease him in.
So Rave,Penny, Evvie, Artie
The first three dogs ran paw perfect, next up was Artie , 3 heats and every time the 4th dog on the other team was at the box when Artie was released and he ran up perfectly! And back down like a pro! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ₯°πŸ₯°πŸ₯°

Race 4, Rave, Penny, Evvie, Artie
All dogs ran perfectly for the first 2 heats πŸ₯° 3rd heat Artie had a Tiny blip, in the other lane dog 3 fumbled at the box, which meant Artie was running head to head with dog 4, he ran up to the box perfectly. Both dogs hit the box together, the dog in the other lane then ran down the side of the jumps, Artie did one Jump then ran across to say hello πŸ™ˆπŸ™ˆ he came back, we re sent him and then completed his leg properly.

Race 5, Rave, Penny, Evvie, Artie
They all ran really well again and no chasing from Artie. 3 heats πŸ‘Œ

Race 6 Rave, Penny, Evvie, Artie
We raced against an empty lane and all ran paw perfect, it was also a great race to end on. Especially for Artie he did so so well coping with being put in a team racing environment and running last!!!

Massive congratulations to Artie for Gaining his cadet badge πŸ‘πŸ₯°πŸ₯°πŸ₯° 4 years of hard work and we are finally getting there!! πŸ‘πŸ‘

So proud of Rave again running perfectly as always all day long! Penny for holding her turn for most of the day (something we have been working on!) Evvie for running fantastically well for her handler and not sitting on anyone's laps! ☺️☺️Holding her turn and just generally running fabulously, coping well with changing the dog running onto her too! Parker I am so proud of for coping well in a new venue and coping with being handled by someone different. A bit of work to do on his running out on the return leg 🦡

Couldn't be prouder of these dogs and handlers πŸ’•πŸ’•πŸ’•

Today some of the team were at Owestry competition held by Storm Chasers Flyball Team. We haven't been to one of their shows for a while! Its a fab venue with lots of lovely teams! And well hosted! Today Artie and Rave had league singles.

Artie (Cheese πŸ§€) if you've followed his journey you will know we have had issues with his reward and him chasingπŸ™ˆ after countless pcs with stooge dogs, and lots of practice racing in little league. Building up his trust and his reward (cheese πŸ§€πŸ§€) a reward that he wants to to work for, building his handlers confidence in him, and lots of patience, dedication and practice. He has only gone an ran paw perfect in open singles!! (Bar a little hiccup in his warmup) and bagged himself second place!! Running a fastest time l2l 4.72
He was also being released by a different handler today, who may or may not have let him down with a few of her starts πŸ™ˆπŸ™ˆπŸ˜„πŸ˜„ Very proud of him and his owner for never giving up. πŸ’•πŸ’• a saying a little girl taught me this week instead of saying "I can't " say.." Here's Ringo! He really has come on leaps and bounds with all aspects of flyball..... bar picking up a ball! πŸ™ˆπŸ™ˆπŸ™ˆ We were all extremely happy with him yesterday!

We've tried to get him to pick a ball up for weeks, hard ones, squidgy, foam, black, furry, yesterday we tried to get him to pick one of his toys up from the box, to just try and get him to pick something up! Then had a thought ' I wonder if he'll pick up his tuggyπŸ€”' and bingo!!! The tuggy on the Bix is his tuggy and he much prefers it to the orange and black one as you can see! πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒ

Next hello is Pebbles

Pebbles will be celebrating her 1st birthday on the 2nd of Feb, and she is of course a border collie 😍😍 she comes from a multi dog household, Skye, Gizmo and Jasmine.

Skye took to Pebbles straight away but Gizmo and Jasmine took alittle longer. Pebbles loves playing with Skye and keep tempting her with toy to play all the time, Pebbles also like to play with Gizmo but can be a bit boisterous with him. She loves her tuggy and almost anything for it apart from a ball.

Pebbles has been training with us since a small pup! She is absolutely smashing her foundation training! Isn't phased by the other dogs at all! Is so so focused on her handler! And adores her tug! She doesn't like it when it's sister Skyes turn though and is very barky 🀣🀣 We can't wait to see her hit the lanes! Hopefully this year! 🀞🀞

Next up is Ringo

Hes also fairly new, although is brought by an existing handler. Its her sons dog.
Ringo is a 14 month old collie kelpie. In the week Ringo spends his time in the yard or riding in the lorry but at weekends he’s at flyball with his friends Penny and Parker. He loves going to flyball training and is learning week by week.

Ringo is a typical noisy, high drive kelpie! But is so eager to learn and please. He has been run by a number of different handlers in the club and has found a love for his tuggy! He has come a long way in such a short space of time, and we are very proud of his progress β€οΈπŸ‘πŸ‘β€οΈ

Say hello to our newest recruit!

Noodle.
She’s a mini goldendoodle, who will be 4 this year.
Shes been learning flyball through a dog training club near us since May 2023. She’s tennis ball obsessed, her favourite snack are tortilla wraps (πŸ˜‚) and she loves swimming. She’s got a little sister Nessie the cockapoo who she loves playing chase with and digging up the garden, her funniest trick is if you tell her to say sorry she licks your face (not taught on purpose πŸ˜‚)

Noodle comes with two handlers - which we love! Abbie and Millar. Both whom fit straight in with the team, helping to train and run our other dogs, and generally just being awesome! So we are thrilled to have them all join our team! Noodle is a solid and reliable dog whose incredibly focused. She has a few tweaks in her training but will be hitting the comp mats soon!! Her first outing will hopefully be at Cambridgeshire Flyball Club fun event in March πŸ₯°

For those who saw the story of our beautiful beloved Loki, today should have been his 2nd birthday.
