Scorchin' Pawz

Scorchin' Pawz Scorchin' Pawz πŸ”₯ is a Warwickshire based Flyball team competing in the UKFL πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ Training in Leamington Spa on Saturday mornings.

Flyball is a dog sport in which teams of dogs race against each other from a start/finish line, over a line of hurdles, to a box that releases a tennis ball to be caught when the dog presses the spring-loaded pad, then back to their handlers while carrying the ball. Flyball is run in teams of four dogs, as a relay. please look at our web site http://flyballteams.wix.com/scorchinpawz

This dog, has taken months and months to get him to pick up anything from the box, then we've been working tirelessly to get him to then transition to a ball! His handler even sewing his tuggy round each ball by hand!!! πŸͺ‘🧡 then slowly working on him carrying it further than 3 strides πŸ˜† Last week was the first time he's carried his ball the whole way back!! πŸ‘πŸ‘ Well done Ringo πŸ‘

Following on from our post the other day our Loki award for Team Dog of the Year 2024 is πŸ₯πŸ₯πŸ₯
Pebbles

Like Loki, Pebbles has shown that she is an exceptionally fast learner,
She has the physical and mental quickness and precision, as Loki often excelled at, often seen in his rise to Flyball mastery in only a few months.
Like Loki, Pebbles has heaps of focus and a lovely box turn.
She always brings energy and enthusiasm to practices and events, embodying Loki’s playful and joyful personality.

Team members who voted for her said, β€œThrown in at the deep end for the Champs she performed amazingly! A true superstar, she has progressed so quickly this year with the support and dedication ofher handler and, of course, Katy.

Massive congratulations to our Loki award winner for Team Dog of Year 2024, Pebbles πŸ₯³πŸ₯³πŸ₯³

In beloved memory of our superstar Loki. We thought it onky right that we had special way of remembering him every year. So we have created two annual awards in his memory, Handler of the Year and Dog of the Year.

⭐️The Loki Handler of the Year 2024 award goes to Sandra⭐️

And here's why:

This person has shown a number of discerning traits which our dear friend Loki possessed.

* She has shown consistent commitment to the team's success, much like Loki's unwavering spirit, which he brought to every training session.
* She works well with both human and canine teammates, reflecting Loki's harmonious nature, which made him stand out as one of the most sociable team members.
* Team members who voted for this person said, β€œShe powers through physical and mental anguish with grace and dignity. Despite all she's going through, you’d never know as she always have a smile on her face, willingness to keep their dogs activities going and care for them regardless of how she feels
* And the winner of annual Loki award in the category handler of the year is… Sandra

Happy New Year! And New year brings us introduction of new members.

And that is Mabel and her handler Kathryn. Mabel is one of the most well behaved and well trained dogs I think I have ever met!! Her young handler Kathryn has done an absolutely amazing job with her training and she should be very proud of what she has achieved with Mabel. She is sooooo keen to learn and picks up everything so quickly!! She joined us half way through last year but had a bit of a break due to Kathryn's other commitments and joined us properly from November. I can not wait to see her running at a competition! She is just incredible! Kathryn has been a fantastic addition to the team and is always happy to get stuck in with helping with all of our other dogs. ❀️❀️

Here's what her handler Kathryn has to say about her..

Mabel is a 2 year old fox red lab, she started flyball in the summer. She is absolutely loving it and gets excited every time she gets out the car.

Mabel is such a quick learner and gets everything so quickly. She loves walks and playing with toys as she hardly sit still at home so its good that she has something to let her energy out. But at in the evening she gets all cuddly and loves sleeping on my bed.

Next shout out, from the comp last weekend at Cambridgeshire Flyball is for our lovable doodle, Noodle. Its was both Noodle and her handlers first ever competition! At training We've been working on her holding her box turn whilst racing. We knew she wouldn't be phased at all in a competition environment and she proved us all right. She ran her little Paws off all day achieving 2nd place in little league pairs with Ren. Abbie and Millar quickly learnt the competition ropes and it was as if they'd both been there hundreds of times before! We are looking forward to Noddle debuting in a team soon πŸ˜€πŸ™Œ Abs did a fantastic job handling her and Millar was amazing on the box! Even the sun 🌞 shone for us all day!! Well done to all 3 of you πŸ‘

This weekend we went to Cambridgeshire Flyball ukfl event, we always love Cambridgeshires events, and the weather also did not dissapoint!!! First shout out has to go to these 3! Two of our young handlers (Sienna and Jack, who are both only 7yrs old!) and Ren our 3yr old border collie. Both Sienna and Jack have been working hard at training helping to run her and have been doing amazingly well. Ren can be a little bit naughty sometimes chasing πŸ™ˆπŸ™ˆ our captain is hoping the children taking the reins their will be less pressure on her and she will run better 🀞🀞

So we let them both step up at the competition and have a go running her! And they did not let us down! Sienna was in charge of releasing Ren, she held her all by herself and even got some fab starts! 0.05 and 0.06!! Jack was in charge of calling Ren back to her tuggy! All three of them did so so well! Ren only got a bit chasey once and after a resend, remembered her job! We are all very proud of them, and to top it off Ren and Noddle came away with 2nd place! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ
Noodle will have her own separate write up as it was hee first ever competition!!

Next champs write up, is our lovable goofy hard working Decker.

Decker ran in both our league team and in singles. Saturday saw him hit the mats with his team, he ran incredibly well all day, despite having a little mishap in his very first race. He came back unphased at all. Running 4.1 seconds and under all day long! His fastest time l2l was 4.03seconds.

Monday he was in league singles and ran unbelievably well! 6 out of 8 races he ran under 4.1seconds with his best l2l time of 4.02seconds! Beating his best time from running in the team on Saturday! He ran clean every single leg and managed to bag himself 3rd place. So massive well done to Fliss and Decker πŸ‘πŸ‘β€οΈβ€οΈ
We are all incredibly proud of him and his handler!! (He's also done even better at his last comp so please look out for that post too!!πŸ‘€)

Champs write ups still going! πŸ™ˆπŸ™ˆ Next we have our lovely Parker, this lovely boy can be very nervy and spook very easily..We are working on his confidence by utilising little league spots. So we know he's in a safe environment. We changed his handlers up recently, putting his owner on the box and having her son run him and he seems to be showing a lot more confidence both towards the box and back down again! πŸ’•πŸ’•πŸ’ͺ it was Sam, his young handlers first time competing with him and he did a absolutely brilliant Job! Parker ran his little heart out. Unfortunately he didn't get into the rosettes but we are all super super proud of both him and Sam πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Next up we have Artie "Cheese" but first we want to do a massive shout out to his handler who is celebrating her birthday today!! πŸŽ‚πŸΎπŸΎ so Happy Birthday Ali!!!

This was Arties / Cheeeeese, 2nd UK Flyball League champs, last year he had a pc slot and raced against some lovely stooge dogs from a different team! Both him and Ali have worked their socks off this year and he's competed in lots of little league events! Working on his chase drive and he is now at a point where he is ready for racing in the team 🍾🍾πŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺ At this years champs he competed in little league pairs with Ren! He didn't put a paw wrong! Definitely showed naughty chasey Ren how to do it properly!! We are hopeful that next year he will be attending the champs as a integral part of our league team! ✨️✨️✨️✨️

Next shout out is to our gorgeous little resident Patterdale, who is our teams little height dog. Evvie sets the jump height at a mere 6" for the rest of our team! She has the privilege of having 2 handlers, one of our longest standing team members releases her and her owner calls her back! Evvie absolutely loves balls and if another dog has spat one you can put money on little Ev picking it up! πŸ˜„πŸ˜„ she runs her little heart out at every comp and this year's UK Flyball League champs was no different! This was her 3rd year competing at the champs and she didn't let her team down, her little legs running as fast as she could! Also running mid pack when she usually runs anchor! Well done Evvie, Bev and Rita πŸ’•πŸ’•πŸ‘πŸ‘ team work makes the dream work πŸ’•πŸ’• Her fastest time was 6.44seconds

08/09/2024

Next up we have Scrippy, he raced in league singles division 6 at the UK Flyball League Championships in August. Racing his little pawz off and coming 3rd!πŸ₯³πŸ₯³πŸ₯³ After not long joining the team Script could just do everything! Hes been a fantastic dog to train, and
Lives to please! This was his first ever champs competing after coming last year and doing a pc slot and we are sure it certainly won't be his last! He's now going to take a bit of time away from comps to really work on perfecting a nice high and snappy turn. We are really proud of him and his handler and can't wait to see him lining up on the mats in a team! He ran a best time of 3.99 l2l and is only one or two dogs in our club to run sub 4!!! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Next up our naughty little Romanian rescue Millie, who raced as anchor for our league team. This is her second championships. Balls were sometimes optional this weekend, box turns can be beautiful or optional πŸ˜… she runs last dog in our team as she isn't keen on being ran onto by another dog. But boy she ran her absolute socks off! She had the privilege at this champs of being ran by two handlers! (Although only one photo of one handler was purchased πŸ€ͺ) she did however run her fastest time for her other handler πŸ˜…πŸ˜‰ running 4.4 line to line! Well done to Mille and her team of handlers πŸ™ŒπŸ™ŒπŸ™Œ

Our next shout out goes to the absolutely amazing Pebbles and her Handler San!! This dog has truly amd utterly knocked our socks off!

3 weeks before the champs Skye (Pebbles sister) unfortunately got an injury. Skye was meant to be running little league singles, but unfortunately that was going to be no more πŸ˜•. Pebbles at this point was doing one jump box and return. Had always trained double lane and was incredibly focused. So we thought let's give her a go at a full run at training. Wow just wow she was incredible! So we decided we would enter her in Skyes place.

Well she only went and ran every leg clean with a best l2l time of 4.47 seconds!!! For her debut! First ever competition!!!! And came away with a well deserved 1st place!

We could not be prouder of this pair!!! πŸ₯³πŸ₯³πŸ˜πŸ˜ this weekend at training we have been working on her full runs as pairs to get her ready for running in a team!!!

This perfect little dude and his handler just give and give to the team!!
Rave is our resident Mr perfect. The spaniel that can do no wrong 😍😍😍😍 On Saturday at the UK Flyball League Championships he gave his all as part of our team. Running consistently as start dog, and having multiple dogs running onto him, holding his times and running his legs off!! Monday he hit the lanes again racing in singles league 16, and of course Mr P brought home 1st place!!!

This amazing talent and consistent times would be nothing without his amazing handler Sue! She has done an amazing job training Rave and is also the best in the club on starts. Not only did she run Rave on Sat and Monday, she also helped others in the club on their starts on Friday and released both Decker and Script in their singles races on Monday too. To top that off she has captined our league team this year for competitions, including leading them at the champs. With a rocky start, a collision (both dogs are fine thankfully) a retiree dog and thus multiple changes to the running order she did a fabulous job of leading the team. For which we are all truly grateful πŸ™ so THANK YOU SUE! and well deserved congratulations to you and Rave πŸ₯³πŸ₯³πŸ₯³
