Melanie recently had an emotional visit to Vets4Pets Hedge End, where she was reunited with her cat Bella, who had been missing for four years.

Bella was eight years old when she began having seizures, leaving her disoriented and confused. Despite working closely with her vet to manage her condition, one day Bella didn’t return home. Melanie searched high and low but eventually gave up hope. Then, four years and one week later, she received a call from the practice. Bella had been handed in by a kind couple who found her, and thanks to her microchip, the team were able to contact Melanie straight away.

Melanie said: “I burst into tears. The lady on the phone was crying too. It’s one of those stories you never think will happen to you. I’m so grateful to the couple and to Vets for Pets for looking after her. As soon as Bella heard my voice, she came straight out of her basket, she remembered me! If your cat isn’t chipped, get it done. You’ve got a much better chance of being reunited if they’re found.”

Meet Benny, the newborn piglet who was brought in to Vets for Pets Eastwood after being rescued from a busy Nottinghamshire road.

A concerned family spotted him wandering alone and, after nearby farms confirmed he wasn’t theirs, took him to Brinsley Animal Rescue. Jon from the rescue said, “When Benny arrived, he was lifeless and had serious eye issues. We placed him in an incubator, gave hourly fluids, and started antibiotics.”

Despite regaining energy, Benny’s eyes didn’t improve, so he was taken to Eastwood Vets for Pets, where practice owner Jonathan confirmed Benny's eyes couldn't be saved and needed removing to give Benny the best quality of life.

Vet Jonathan said, “Benny has bounced back incredibly quickly. For such a young piglet to come through surgery and adapt so well shows what a strong little character he is. Luckily, due to his age, once he finds his forever home, his lack of sight should not be an issue; he will live a very normal and happy life.”

Meet one-year-old Kobe from Dogs Trust who stole the show during some filming at Pets at Home Basildon. The shoot was all about how Pets Club members can support local animal charities through Lifelines.

Every time you shop online or use your Pets Club card in-store, on our app, at Pets Grooming, or at Vets for Pets, you collect Lifelines. These can then be redeemed by charities for essentials such as food, toys and bedding.

Kobe was a natural in front of the camera, which was no surprise to his new owner, Nyomi. Nyomi said, “Kobe is so receptive to learning, we’ve already taught him so many things that we’re running out of tricks. We found the Dog’s Trust application process seamless. They took the time to understand who we were and our lifestyle before matching us with a dog. As soon as we saw him, we fell in love.”

One-year-old Arnie has been working hard to build his confidence in busy environments, and Pets at Home Northwich has been a key part of his journey.

Arnie missed out on important early socialisation as a puppy and can be nervous around new people. When owner Jess adopted him from Manchester & Cheshire Dogs' Home, where she works, at just five months old, she made it her mission to help him feel safe and secure.

Jess said: “When I first brought Arnie home, he would bark at everyone because he was so unsure. Now, he’s neutral and doesn’t worry about people around him. Our routine starts with some outdoor training in the town centre, then a walk around Pets at Home. He practices staying calm as we walk in, then we do some focus work, some sniffing, and finish with a treat from his friends at the till. He’s come such a long way.”

Cats are experts at hiding when they’re in pain, but luckily vet Ria at Clifton Vets4Pets spotted something subtle at Scott’s routine check-up, which means he’s now getting help for his arthritis.

Seven-year-old Scott slipped twice while jumping during a trip to the vets, prompting Ria to send his owner Loren home with a list of signs to watch for. Loren soon noticed Scott was sleeping on the floor instead of his cat tree, hesitating to jump, and seemed generally stiff. After an X-ray confirmed arthritis, Ria recommended treatment to ease Scott’s discomfort and improve his quality of life.

Ria said, “Arthritis in cats is often missed or mistaken for ageing. They’re brilliant at hiding pain. Thankfully, Scott has a caring and observant owner, so we could help him early. If your cat seems stiff, cautious on stairs, or hesitant to jump then take a video and speak to your vet.”

Owner Loren said, “I’m so happy that we spoke to Ria. Scott's far more comfortable now, it’s nice to see him playing with my other cat again.”

“We nearly lost you, but you came back stronger than ever.” That’s what Sonny’s owner Rae posted on Instagram after her beloved labrador pulled through a terrifying health scare thanks to the team at Vets4Pets Penzance

For three years, Rae had been searching for answers as Sonny gained weight and struggled with intermittent vomiting. Despite diet and exercise changes, there was no improvement, and she felt that no one was willing to help. Then one morning, Sonny began vomiting brown fluid. Rae rushed him to Vets4Pets Penzance, who she had recently joined, where they drained fluid from his stomach. Scans showed nothing, so after a long discussion with Rae, the team made the tough call to operate. Inside, they found a toy lodged in his intestines which was causing a dangerous blockage.

Rae said, “It was the worst week of my life, but now he’s home and like a brand-new dog. We’re so grateful to Vets4Pets for listening and helping us.”

Vet Rhiannon, practice owner at Vets4Pets Penzance, said, “Surgery was a last resort, but Sonny was very poorly. Once we removed the obstruction, we could treat the complications. We’re so happy to say he’s gone from strength to strength.”

Who else thinks Toby and Wilma are the cutest pumpkins in the pumpkin patch? 🎃

Wilma and Toby will both be experiencing Halloween for the first time this year. Wilma’s owners, Ellie and Asia, are planning a trip to the pumpkin farm, so their 18-month-old pup can pose in her Pets at Home Jack O Lantern sweater. Meanwhile, one-year-old Toby and owner Emily will be joining his best friend Brody for a Halloween walk in his pumpkin outfit.

Emily, who shops at Pets at Home Poole, said, “Toby will of course be wearing his pumpkin outfit on his Halloween walk. I saw it in my local Pets at Home when I was getting him his favourite Whimzees and knew I needed it. Halloween can be a scary time for dogs, so we’ll probably take him for his walkies before it gets dark, but he will love greeting trick-or-treaters in his costume.”
