On Christmas Day morning this little polish frizzle hen had her wing ripped off by a fox! (Pic in comments). The fox managed to get hold of the wing through the wire of a ”fox proof” eglu go run. Thankfully she is ok and back with her flock now. I’m so thankful she is such a resilient little fighter! 💖

The little rescue mallard duckling I took in on the 17th June is now big enough to go to the field. He/she will stay as long as it wants to. Once old enough if it chooses to “fly the nest” it can. I won’t keep it captive ❤️

Hamish and poppy seem happy in their new shelter! This will see them through the summer months and a more warmer and weather-proof den will be made for the winter months. 🥰🐷🐷

They’re finally here!! Meet our two gorgeous Kune Kune pigs, the latest additions to the Big C crew 🐷🐷🥰😍 We’ve taken them on as they were living at a nursing home but only one member of staff was looking after them, when he was not at work the other staff were not interested in caring for them as they had to do it either on their break or in their unpaid time before or after work and so eventually the nursing home agreed to rehome them. They’re very interested in exploring their new home, much to the chickens horror!! 😬 Hopefully the chickens and ducks will get used to the pigs in a few days and all will be well 🤞🏻🐤🐷

Yesterday was a very sad day. I lost 16 silkie hens and 4 boys to foxes overnight 😔 Never slack on fox proofing and never be complacent. Just because they’ve never struck before it doesn’t mean they won’t. This was the first pen I built. These pens need additional wire netting and fox-proofing than what they come with, I tried with tgick wire and a skirt but it wasn’t amazing, subsequent pens I learnt and did things differently and got better at fox-proofing with each pen I built. I should have redone some of this pen but didn’t “get round to it”. So 100% my fault. My mum is going to clear the feathers for me as I find it too upsetting, each feather I see that I recognise makes my stomach turn. The guilt I feel is immense 😞 I should have protected them. I took my two favourite hens that lived at home with me to live in that pen that very day 😣 Ugh!! It makes me sick 😞 My poor babies 💔

I’ve been hand rearing this little guy as his mum didn’t manage to cope with her 4 babies. They all passed bar this one who I thought was also dead but he made tiny movements in my hand as I held him to check. I put him in the incubator to warm up as he was freezing and managed to feed him a small amount once he was warm. Now weeks later he’s a gorgeous little guy who loves to sit on my finger and eat his food 🥰 such a sweetheart ❤️

New Pekin bantam group in quarantine before moving to the field. 2 boys and 7 girls. The group includes 2 that are silkie feathered and a frizzle.

33 Silkies moved to the new stables yesterday. All home hatched 🐣

New tenants have moved in to stable 1. Once their pen goes up on the field they will be outside enjoying the sunshine and grass… hopefully! 🤞🏻 I can barely remember what either of those things look like. All I see every day is rain and mud 😬

A few days ago I hatched lots of Cochin Bantam Chicks from Martijn’s Cochin & Poultry. Im so pleased with them 🥰 I’ll have to choose what to order next… I’m thinking some silver partridge Brahmas 😍

Im so chuffed to have hatched 2 adorable teeny tiny African Harlequin quail today 😍 12 more eggs have gone in to the incubator so it will be interesting to see how many I get from the next batch 🤞🏻
