Are you going on holiday and your dog needs a home away from home? Or do you need a bit of help with the care of your dog while you are at work? Or you just want your dog to spend a fun day with friendly and safe play mates? My name is Amélie and I run Groovy Pups, together with Pozzo, my Working Cocker Spaniel, and Lucy, my Labradoodle. I have grown up with dogs, either my own or taking care of f

riends’, and after 15 years of working in International Development, I relocated from London to Leeds with my Leeds-born partner and decided to follow my childhood dream of working with and taking care of dogs. I offer a variety of professional and premium services for your furry friend(s) ranging from group dog walking, solo dog walking or tailored pop-ins for dogs who may be a little anxious, older or recovering from an injury as well as tailored puppy visits. All services are offered in a safe environment and in a reliable, caring and trustworthy manner, suing solely reward-based, force free methods of care. For your peace of mind, I am:

The walks vary daily in the beautiful parks and countryside around North Leeds where the doggies can have lots of fun, explore and play safely. I like to keep the groups small and never walk more than 6 dogs at one time. Solo walks, pop-ins and puppy visits are tailored around you and your dog’s requirements. While walks are important for our dogs, regular enrichment that allows dogs to engage in their natural behaviour such as problem solving, bonding, playing, thinking, smelling, digging, chewing, etc..., is also key to happy, healthy and confident dogs. Therefore, each walk/visit includes enrichment activities customised to each dogs’ needs, physical abilities, energy levels and temperament. To ensure all my furry guests have a positive experience, I offer a free & no obligation meet and greet where we’ll go for a walk together, see if the dogs get along and are a good fit and where we can discuss your needs. Oslo was back from his holiday and he smashed his solo walk. He definitely practiced his recall and loose lead walking with mum & dad when he was away 🙌🙌 . That’s me done for this week already. I’m off to London for some practical dog training course! 😃. See you all next week.

The first one on the graphic is a very commonly misread sign of anxiety.❗
Many people who are in breed groups will state " silliness....it's just the breed", maybe look again as this is far more common than many people may realise.
Silliness is often misread as just that...a dog acting silly or goofy, but it is a very common (but lesser known) misread sign of stress.
These dogs are often labelled as "naughty", "not listening" or "acting crazy" when these dogs can be behaving this way from fear.
It can look to us like they are suddenly having a great time, jumping, leaping and "having the time of their life", when the reality is they are fearful and this is how they are showing it.
Often this can be a real eye opener when people realise their dog isn't enjoying what is around them at ALL, and they are highly stressed.
Lifting one paw can be a sign of curiosity, but it can also mean they are moving into a state of anxiousness.
If you have a reactive dog (or even if you don't), you may be aware sometimes when you give a reward your dog almost takes your fingers with the reward.....normally they take rewards happily and don't "snatch"....that snatching and grabbing can mean they have moved into a state of anxiousness.....OR excitement.
That is the tricky thing with ALL of these signs, they can mean something else entirely.
The best way to decipher is to look for other signs of anxiousness or stress, those physical changes in their posture or face that you may have recognised before.....are they present ?
Is the tail tucked ?
Has the mouth suddenly clamped shut ?
Is there a sudden heavy pant/drooling ?
Have the ears changed position ?

These other signals will help you decipher exactly what is occurring.
Context is everything when deciding what these signs mean.

Last week I was very excited to join the 2 Day Career As A Dog Trainer Course. Great course with a wealth of information on how dogs learn. I look forward to the follow up practical course in June! 😃. (And yes, I know it’s almost June and I’m still wearing a scarf and a cardigan! 🤦‍♀️🌧️😆)

I was so proud of these gorgeous doggies at lunchtime. 🥰 They’re all quite high energy and have the potential to go a ‘bit’ crazy a times 🤣. They’re generally not in the same group, but today they were and they behaved so admirably!!!! Four girls are on holiday, so it was just Mila, Lucy and Archie at lunchtime. We still had lots of fun and enjoyed the beautiful blossom of Golden Acre 🥰

This morning Bailey and Mila had their first swim of the year, even Woody dipped his toes in the water. And we did a ‘catch a treat in the air ’ competition. Mila’s definitely the winner! 😊

It was a soggy and muddy start of the week but it was still a lovely day (except for me ending up on my bottom due to some very slippery roots! Luckily I have enough padding 😂😂😂 and all the doggies ran back to give me kisses 😘 ). Today we welcomed Hetty and Sandie on the lunchtime walk. They were a bit nervous at first but settled in really well (I think they had a little crush on Jack 😉). Jack, Freddie and Merlin were showing off their raincoats (reluctantly) , Toby decided it was better to have a quick garden visit and go back on the sofa, but all the other doggies enjoyed the rain and Oslo smashed his solo walk again, improving each week!
