This time of year, farmers will be preparing for lambing season, and the sheep out in the fields may be pregnant.

A lead can help protect the sheep, their unborn lambs and your dog.

Let's explore the outdoors together safely and responsibly

Walking through gates can be very exciting for some dogs. The anticipation can be too much, and they get over excited.

It is important to manage that excitement so we can keep them in a 'thinking brain' state.

'Find it' is one of the 1st things I teach any dog that starts walking with me, and it is something we play frequently on our walks.

What's your favourite calming game to play on walks?

One of our favourite recall games. Look at the speed on Curly!
Adding in some engagement games so this cheeky teen stays close after the recall.

Find it is one of our favourite games and we play it a lot on our walks. It's great for lowering arousal, it's a great mental activity, and it boosts confidence. Here, we are using it as a focus game around distractions when Mr Crow decided to join us. This added an extra level of distraction, and the Ginger Duo did amazing at maintaining focus. They are aware the crow is there but want to play the game.
I was throwing treats to the crow to move it away as it was getting a bit too brave and I wanted my dogs to succeed.

Dogs do not understand why the world is suddenly getting very loud. Unpredictable sudden, loud bangs and flashes can turn on our dogs survival mode.

Fight means our dog may be so scared they may show aggressive behaviour

Flight means they may run then hide. Dogs can become lost or worse hit by a car

Freeze means a dog will hide or be frozen to the spot. Dogs may shake, loose control of their bowels or bladder and not be able to redpond to you

This time of year can be a very scary for our dogs so here are a few useful tips from the Dog Training College to help our dogs through autumn and new years
