It's that time of year again 😍

This is just one of the adorable lambs born this week on our Animal Care Assistant Sadie's farm! ❤️

There will be lots of lambs in the fields at the moment so here's how we can keep them as safe as possible!

🐑 Under the Countryside Code all dogs must be on a lead near livestock
🐑 Dog owners can be fined if their dog chases or harms sheep
🐑 Even the friendliest dog can scare sheep, scared or stressed ewes may abandon their lambs or have issues carrying them to term
🐑 Farmers can legally protect their livestock if a dog is out of control on their land

If you are walking your dog near fields the safest thing is to keep them on a lead 🐕‍🦺

Please can all of our clients be considerate of the neighbours when parking up for appointments at Cookridge 🐾

We know the double yellow lines have made parking very difficult close to the practice but when parking please make sure you are leaving an appropriate distance from our neighbours driveways.

We try to ensure our driveway is free for any emergency appointments or pets that may struggle to walk from further.

Let’s try to keep the roads safe for everyone and park responsibly ❤️

It's World Kidney Day!

The kidneys work hard in the body to filter waste products and produce urine 🤓

Did you know that cats can lose a significant amount of kidney function before they show any signs? This is why it is often caught late! With routine health screening such as our wellness screen we can catch conditions such as this early, and start providing support sooner.

If your pet is showing any of these signs make sure to book them in for a health check! 🐾

March is Pet Anxiety Month!

Just like us, our pets can experience anxiety and stress in different situations. They also present this in lots of different, and sometimes very subtle, ways.
What causes anxiety in our pets?
🚗 Travelling
🙈New experiences
💥Loud noises such as fireworks
🗺️Separation from their owner
🏠Changes in the home
⏰Changes to their routine
👶🏻A new pet or person in the home
🩺Trips to the vet
🐱New cat in the area

What are the signs of anxiety in dogs?
🐶Barking / whining
🐶 Pacing
🐶 Scratching
🐶 Hyper-vigilant - looking around constantly on
🐶 Drooling
🐶Panting
🐶 Urinating & defecating in the house
🐶Shaking Digging
🐶 Yawning

There may also be signs in how they look such as having their ears and tail down, crouching or cowering. Even not wanting to eat can be a sign that they are anxious in the situation or environment.

What are the signs of anxiety in cats?
🐱 Trembling or shaking
🐱Rapid breathing
🐱Licking their nose frequently
🐱Excessive vocalisation such as growling, hissing or yowling
🐱Dilated pupils
🐱 Crouching down frequently
🐱Ears flat against their head
🐱 Over grooming, creating bald patches or sores on their coat
🐱Diarrhoea and vomiting

Or they may show as behavioural changes:
📍Urinating outside the litter box
📍Urine spraying around the house
📍Excessive scratching of furniture
📍Aggressive behavior towards you or other pets
📍Constant meowing/vocalisation
📍Pacing around the house
📍Easily spooked

What can we do to help?
✅Pheromone based sprays and plug-ins such as Adaptil, Feliway, Pet Remedy. These are also available as collars for pets on the move

✅More exercise and mental stimulation
✅Remove stressors from the environment where possible

Get a health check from the vet, this helps us to see if there's an underlying cause such as pain or illness

It’s Pancake Day! 🥞

Here’s our recipe for dog friendly pancakes:

Chop & mash 1 banana
Add 3tsp of peanut butter
Add 1 egg and mix until smooth
Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side
Allow to cool and serve!
