edge never standing still as our greater understanding of the dog world unfolds with new scientific research of our best friend. My ethos with every case is to look at the whole picture not just the behaviour and always using positive reward techniques to ensure a happy learning journey for the whole family. Together we will look at how your dog learns and how you can communicate with each other in a kind and effective way, making sure your dog's core needs are met such as enough sleep and using enrichment with nose and mind activities. I will provide you with new skills and knowledge which will ensure your dog is no longer in the dog house!

I love another Friday sign off and this time it is Archie 🐾

I’ve been helping Archie with his recall and his love for running off from mum & dad to say hello to everything.

He is that type of dog, your best friend and the one you would want at your party.

Total heart of gold and cracking temperament.

Now walks are easier for his mum & dad and more enjoyable.

Time to enjoy the teenager 🐶

Even with a sign off I keep an eye on my NLDH crew, its time for it to become a way of life at home and walks.

Meet Bo

I’ve been helping her and mum with visitors to the house as she used to get a bit excited.

With all that muscle and power jumping up became a problem so mum called for some guidance & training.

Another sign off as mum can have her friends around again with ease and less stressful for everyone which is perfect timing for this lovely weather.

Well done Bo & mum 🙌

Sofa or no sofa?

You decide.

It’s amazing when I arrive at a puppy home visit all the plans for little one no sofa for their dog.

90% of the time within a couple of months their puppy is snuggling with them on the sofa.

Once we hit 1 year old I’am then sometimes asked how can I stop my teenage dog being of the sofa!

Decide from day one what you prefer as an adult dog.

Easily to teach non sofa and also easy to teach sofa rules.

You just need to be consistent with what ever you decide.

I personally enjoy my Dexter cuddles at the start of my day with a cuppa.

Hello! I just wanted to introduce myself ready for Christmas Paws on Saturday with Spaniel Rescue Foundation. I will be on hand to answer any questions you may have about your dogs behaviour or training needs. Plus join me for your dogs Best Party Trick at 12.30pm with prizes to be won. Pop over and say hello 🐾 NLDH specialises in 1-2-1 training and behaviour support. My background: ​ ‘Working with animals has always been a passion of mine with dogs being a part of my everyday life. ​ My path crossed with Indy my Labrador who always went against the textbook of dog training and behaviour. Indy was fearful and reacted in difficult situations for her. ​ With Indy’s influence No Longer in the Doghouse was born and I took the step from student to trainer over 18 years ago. Dexter my working cocker spaniel is now keeping me on my toes! ​ Today I’am a experienced and qualified behaviourist with a degree in Applied Animal Behaviour and Training, specialising in canine behaviour. This includes various breeds and I also work with rescue dogs. ​ My other passion is understanding the health and wellbeing of our dogs with working within the Veterinary Industry for over 10 years ensures I can give you up to date knowledge on how health and diet are key factors in your dogs’ behaviour. Great session with Izzy this week focusing on her walking around life and recalls. Happy and very fast girl which means at times she wants to run on her lead. Walking into the weekend with ease. Welcome Millie to NLDH She can be an cautious girl and needs a little bit of time to adjust. Mum has been doing really well at doing everything at her own pace. Now it’s time to build confidence up and practice Lifeskills at the right time like home walks first. It can be too much to walk in town and watch life when we are unsure so baby steps all the way. ✅ Sniffing on a walk to gather important information and also calm anxiety down. ✅ No tension on the lead. ✅ Balance of exploring and not pulling. ✅ Lots of praise and reward when we engage near our knees. Well done 👏👏 P.s - I usually use a harness to train at this age but Millie had grown out of hers so mum will be popping to @thebarkinglotuk Her lead is a tad to long also and keeps tripping her up but the main thing is that she wanted to go for a walk as previously she had been too worried to go out and about 🐾

Meet Kai 😍 He started his 1-2-1 Puppy Training this week focusing on not jumping up and we chatted about the importance of sleep. He has also been enjoying chasing the cat which mum was onto straight away. ✅ How to make both was safe and have their own areas. ✅ The cat was not distressed. ✅ More importantly Kai was not practising his chase techniques. I’am sure they will be the best of friends as Kai grows up and it’s essential we get it right from the start. NLDH 1-2-1 Puppy Training focuses on individual training & support areas for your home plus the important life skills to help you and your puppy. Our Story

No Longer in the Dog House is owned by Dawn BSc ABT - Dog Behaviour Training & Support with over 14 years experience with working with dogs. Dawn provides a bespoke service covering training that suit you and your dog. One to One to Training are hugely popular and provide you with the individual attention and personalised training required. Private sessions are also an option for dogs that find it hard in an group situation or perhaps you only have an few behaviours to teach/modify that don't cover class criteria.

Dawn is also based in a Veterinary Referral practice in North Yorkshire offering bespoke behaviour training & advice. As manager of the Small Animal Division working with the medical team enables her to build an full picture of your dogs behaviour. Her ‘Be Brave’ Clinics where very popular and helped many dogs to be at ease in the veterinary environment with helpful tips of handling for the owner to aid positive interaction with the veterinary staff. Dawn is also is a Member of the KCAI - Kennel Club Scheme for Accredited Dog Trainers that have be assessed in the area that they choose to teach. Classes include the UK largest Dog Training Scheme - Good Citizen Classes are based at Kirk Deighton Village Hall (Wetherby) offering Puppy classes (4months), through to Gold level of training.

Dawn’s Workshop’s include Teenage Tantrums, Old dog new tricks, Pet Agility, Pet Gundog and Clicker Workshops which Dawn runs and invites guest trainers. Prior to classes Dawn likes to have an informal chat with you so that we can get to know each other and work together in our training. It also enables Dawn to find you the right teaching and learning environment for you and your dog. Previous experience includes working for many years with her mentor Philippa Williams at Dogs For Life/Castleman Gundogs for 7 years after university starting as her student and progressing to her right hand person. Puppy development & training from birth through to adolescent. Working with Field Trial Champion Gundogs and Boarding Kennel onsite trainer. It was at Dogs for Life that she met her best friend Indiana, a fearful/reactive Labrador that taught her so much about going against the textbook of dog training. With Indy’s behavioural problems she has not been a easy dog to teach how to be in everyday life from a puppy to her senior years and she always keeps me on my toes with understand dog behaviour. Ive been the early walker, looking over my shoulder, wanting to enjoy life in a cafe environment & attend different training classes with great difficulty especially as a teenager.

With Indiana’s journey No Longer in the Doghouse was born.
