Meanwood Valley Urban Farm is a charity established in 1980 to provide a 'taste of the country' within the city boundaries. It provides educational services to disadvantaged young people and adults and offers environmental education to primary school children. It is a working farm with a wide variety of animals, amenity and market gardens and a range of natural habitats. Many of the animals can be

seen from close quarters and fresh farm eggs can be bought in the Farm Shop. There is a small play area for under 12s and the independently-run Barn Coffee Shop is also located on the Farm. In addition to the animals, there are several woodland walks including a longer walk into the Scott Hall Copse at the far end of the Farm.

Come along to the farm to craft your very own recycled jam jar lantern. Meet outside the Epicentre at 1pm, places are first come first serve.

The session will take place outdoors so please wear weather appropriate clothing.

✨ You may have already seen, but the donkeys, Alfie, Trooper, and Reggie are back!

⛱ They come to the farm every winter for their holiday, and over the summer they live on the beach in Blackpool.

✨ Every Morning and early afternoon the HOOF team walks the donkeys between the field and the open barn, come at the right time and you might get to see them on their walks :)

💧This weekend is the very exciting World Wetlands Day event on the farm!

🦆From 10am - 3pm on Saturday and Sunday, the RSPB will be running family-friendly, nature-themed events to celebrate and educate about the importance of wetlands here in the UK and across the world.

As you may have heard there is another yellow warning for Friday this week for very strong winds. The Met Office are predicting gusts of over 60mph on Friday. This means that unfortunately the farm will be closed to the public all day on Friday and the car park will be closed. We are sorry for the inconvenience but have taken this decision due to the large number of trees we have on our site and public safety.
We are open today (Thursday) and will be open on Saturday, so just closed on Friday

We will be celebrating World Wetlands Day on the 1st and 2nd of February with RSPB

It's going to be such a fun weekend and is open to all farm visitors! There's going to be lots going on from bird ID walks to water-based activities to help you learn about wetlands and erosion.

The perfect weekend activity for those of all ages to come and learn more about nature!

🐑Last week we had the ewes scanned to see how many lambs we can expect this spring. ☀The ewes are now out back in the fields enjoying the sunshine, we cant wait for the springtime and all the new lambs to come!

We have been blanketed in snow and ice for the past couple of days, and although it has meant lots of extra work gritting all the paths it has been completely gorgeous to see the golden sunrises over the sparkling white fields. There is so much beauty to discover on the farm, especially at the moment as it is transformed by the crisp bright weather, however if you are coming down to visit please do be careful on the ice and snow, and make sure to wrap up warm ❤

Amy our Farmer is looking after our animals today. Guess who has arrived today?! The boys are back in town. Alfie, Trouper and Reggie!

Morning. Just to let you know the Farm and The Barn Coffee Shop are open today. It is still very windy so please take care if you are visiting the Farm today

Huge thanks to @pottdpeople for sending over some clay kits for the HOOF team to have a go and get creative - we all had a great afternoon making clay pots :)

Cheeky squirrels stealing from the bird feeders!

Even as we move through autumn and the world starts to feel more 'grey' there is still so much colour and beauty to be found here at the farm and in nature all around us!

HOOF Trip to Yorkshire Wildlife Park! We all had such a fun day out exploring the wildlife park, we were so lucky to see so many amazing animals :D

THIS THURSDAY! We are very excited to be hosting a MVUF Market Garden opening evening! Come and have a tour of the abundant summer crops, Try some of the delicious fresh produce and meet the people who grow your veg!

Thanks to the hard work of our HOOF team the farm is a bloom of wildflowers🌸🪻🌼. This makes for lots and lots of happy pollinators, from birds and butterfly's to the most important bee! 🪻Did you know it is estimated that one out of every three bites of food we eat exists because of animal pollinators like bees, butterflies, birds, beetles and other insects. 🪲A reminder of why it is SO important support pollinators with nectar rich flowers shrubs and trees - let your garden grow wild, let wildflowers grow

Have you explored Shire Wood? It is the area on the farm behind the cafe, there is a large pond and the river runs alongside. Its a beautiful pocket of nature in the heart of Leeds and is especially lovely when the sun is shining!
