Meanwood Valley Urban Farm is a charity established in 1980 to provide a 'taste of the country' within the city boundaries. It provides educational services to disadvantaged young people and adults and offers environmental education to primary school children. It is a working farm with a wide variety of animals, amenity and market gardens and a range of natural habitats. Many of the animals can be

seen from close quarters and fresh farm eggs can be bought in the Farm Shop. There is a small play area for under 12s and the independently-run Barn Coffee Shop is also located on the Farm. In addition to the animals, there are several woodland walks including a longer walk into the Scott Hall Copse at the far end of the Farm.

With the playscheme now finished Shire Wood is back open to the public.

Tucked away behind the cafe this area of the farm can sometimes be missed out when exploring. With the river running alongside and a large pond at far end its a great place to sit and observe the wildlife that resides there!

🐝 A note from our beekeeper Kate:

Some of our honeybees have been taken up to the heather moorland above Otley!

Hopefully if conditions are right (and it doesn’t rain too much!) they will produce us some delicious thick moorland honey that will be in the shop from mid-September.

Unfortunately tomorrow (Friday) is predicted to be very windy, with a yellow warning for storms so the car park will be closed to the general public until around 12 noon. Given the very strong winds and our proximity to trees we would recommend not visiting the farm in the morning unless you are visiting the cafe which will be still open. Thank you 🙏

We would also like to say a massive thanks to Tim Reeve and team from Advent Developments who have provided the funds for us to be able to carry out refurbishment works on our viewing platform which allows visitors and school groups to observe our goats and hens and to access a handwashing station. The Farm is in the catchment area of Advent’s new Adel Square scheme of 72 new homes in Adel.

Hatha Yoga For All.

Sunday 28th July and each last Sunday of the Month. 1 - 2pm @ Meanwood Valley Urban Farm. LS7

Join us in at MVUF in the upper Epicentre room for an hour of mindful gentle Yoga.

Hatha Yoga is a tradition form of Yoga consisting of gentle Breathwork and conscious exercise and meditation to condition the body and the mind.

It is a holistic form of exercise helping to balance your emotions and strengthen your focus plus much more.

Advance booking is essential via Eventbrite or Direct Booking.

A very big thank you to Meanwood Village Association, who have chosen Meanwood Valley Urban Farm as their charity of the year. They are very kindly raising funds for us this year, and this includes at their “Meanwood’s Musical Extravaganza” which is an evening of musical entertainment from local performers and bands taking place on Saturday 21st September, 7pm at Holy Trinity Church in Meanwood. HONEY IN STOCK!

We now have our very own honey on sale in the shop for £10 a jar!

it is a lovely light, floral honey produced by the bees foraging on flowers and crops around the farm, market garden and allotments.

Did you know, it takes one honeybee their whole lifetime to produce just half a teaspoon of honey - it’s precious stuff!

THIS THURSDAY! We are very excited to be hosting a MVUF Market Garden opening evening! Come and have a tour of the abundant summer crops, Try some of the delicious fresh produce and meet the people who grow your veg!

Thanks to the hard work of our HOOF team the farm is a bloom of wildflowers🌸🪻🌼. This makes for lots and lots of happy pollinators, from birds and butterfly's to the most important bee! 🪻Did you know it is estimated that one out of every three bites of food we eat exists because of animal pollinators like bees, butterflies, birds, beetles and other insects. 🪲A reminder of why it is SO important support pollinators with nectar rich flowers shrubs and trees - let your garden grow wild, let wildflowers grow

Have you explored Shire Wood? It is the area on the farm behind the cafe, there is a large pond and the river runs alongside. Its a beautiful pocket of nature in the heart of Leeds and is especially lovely when the sun is shining!

From sheep 🐑 to snails 🐌 we’ve got it all make sure to explore beyond our farm animals 🐄 when you visit - check out the woodland area 🌳 to see birds 🐦‍⬛, and follow the bug trail 🐛 to find all sorts of critters 🪲

Watching the trees turn green as spring turns into summer

Have you signed our latest petition? https://www.change.org/p/install-a-pedestrian-crossing-on-meanwood-road-accessibility-for-all To make our site more accessible for the HOOF team as well as the wider community we think it is essential there there is a pedestrian crossing installed at the Ridge Grove Bus stop on Meanwood Road, adjacent to Rollette Café. Watch our petition to find out more from the HOOF team about WHY this petition is so important!

✨Instead of driving why not try walking to cycling to the the farm? ✨Not only is it better for you and the planet but it means you can take in the beautiful scenery and enjoy the journey ✨There is a pedestrian and cycle path that runs through the farm making us very accessible by foot or bike!

The first group of lambs has been moved to the field! Come and visit them at the farm, they are in the field behind the Epicentre, above the allotments🧡

🌿We're open 7 days a week 10am-4pm! 🌿 The perfect place to meet some animals, explore in nature and enjoy your local surroundings - come down and visit the farm, see what you can discover!

There is a small play area for under 12s and the independently-run Barn Coffee Shop is also located on the Farm.
