have released research about the importance of Farming in the Urban Fringe (like we do on our 1-acre Market Garden plot!)

Did you know that in 2021, urban fridge farming in the UK produced enough to feed 7.2 million people, supplying 20% or more of key UK cereals including wheat, barley and oats (as shown in the graphic)

Fruit Works Co-op (who ran the winter Wassail and other fruity things) have launched a scheme that might be of interest to friends of the Farm 🌱

You can have 4 months of local, tasty, chemical-free apples delivered once a month for collection here at the Farm.

It's £99 - which is cheaper than you'll pay in lots of shops and for a limited period (up until the solstice on the 21st) they are offering a 5% discount for anyone who with the code MVUF5 at https://www.fruitworks.org.uk/harvest

An exciting new course from .wood.recycling

Between June 2025 and the end of May 2026, they will be running 7 "Cohorts" of the project.

Each SkillShed will last 6 weeks, running on Tuesdays from 9.30 - 3pm, and there are 10 spaces per cohort.

In each cohort participants will process timber collected by the LWR collections team, learn basic woodwork skills, have access to additional optional training such as CPC accredited micro qualifications and SEN training, whilst being part of a team constructing bike sheds.

Our Story

Meanwood Valley Urban Farm is a charity established in 1980 to provide a 'taste of the country' within the city boundaries. It provides educational services to disadvantaged young people and adults and offers environmental education to primary school children. It is a working farm with a variety of farm animals, amenity and market gardens and a range of natural habitats. Some of the animals can be seen from close quarters but the varied wildlife is a little more elusive. There is a small play area for under 12s and the independently-run Barn Coffee Shop is also located on the Farm. In addition to the animals, there are several woodland walks including a longer walk into the Scott Hall Copse at the far end of the Farm.
