Meet Poppy - just 9 weeks old but already one of our bravest little visitors! 🐢πŸ’ͺ

This sweet girl came to our Sandal Practice for her very first vaccination with our vet, Kamila. She was such a good girl πŸ’–, sitting patiently while we weighed her to make sure she got the perfect dose of flea treatment πŸ©ΊπŸ›.

While waiting in reception, Poppy charmed everyone with her adorable puppy eyes, πŸ₯Ί soaking up all the attention, cuddles, and fuss from our team. πŸ₯° We’re so thrilled to be part of her journey and can’t wait to watch her grow! 🌱🐾

Welcome to the Calder family, Poppy! πŸŽ‰

Ensuring that your pet's microchip information is up to date is vital for their safety and provides you with peace of mind for you as a responsible owner.

🌍 This Week is World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week (WAAW), and this week's theme is "Educate. Advocate. Act now."

Antibiotic resistance is a serious global issue that affects both humans and animals. It's crucial to protect the effectiveness of antibiotics so they can continue to save lives when truly needed. πŸ’Š

You can make a difference...
πŸ‘‰ Check your cupboards and fridge for expired or unused pet medications.
πŸ‘‰ Bring any no-longer-needed veterinary medicines to our practice for safe disposal.

Together, we can help combat antibiotic resistance and safeguard the health of pets, people, and the planet.

Let's – it's a collective effort, and every small step counts.

🐢 This is Mabel, who visited our Mirfield practice recently after her owner noticed she was feeling a little under the weather. After further investigation, we found Mabel had a solid mass in her bladder.

Our Mirfield team discussed all options and outcomes in depth with Mabel's owner and decided the best course of action would be to perform a Cystotomy.

This fantastic team successfully removed the mass and are pleased to say Mabel is feeling much brighter now. πŸ’–

🐾 Puppy Alert! 🐾

We had a 'paw-some' day at our Sandal practice recently with these adorable Labrador puppies who came in for their very first vaccinations and microchipping! πŸΆπŸ’‰

Their tails were wagging, and they were as cute as can be - though they might have been more interested in making friends than getting their jabs and microchip! πŸ˜„πŸ’•

Here’s to keeping them happy, healthy, and ready for all their adventures ahead!

Say hello to Merlin! πŸˆβ€πŸ‘‹

Thirteen-year-old Merlin, was referred to our Rehabilitation Centre to help manage his osteoarthritis, particularly for his painful hips and lower back. He currently visits us for weekly laser sessions, to help with reducing pain and inflammation in his sore areas ⚑️. He is a little super star who happily lays down patiently whilst our Veterinary Physiotherapists treat him ⭐️ (he loves it even more when he gets a chin scratch at the same time 😻!). We have also managed to include a gentle home exercise and management plan for Merlin. You may also notice he has a little sore on his nose which is from his allergies, which he also visits our veterinary surgeons to help manage β€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή.

November is Pet Diabetes Month, and today is World Diabetes Day! πŸΎπŸ’™

Did you know there are several signs of diabetes mellitus in dogs and cats? Look out for these symptoms:

🐢 Excessive thirst
🐱 Increased urination
🐢 Inappropriate urination
🐱 Weight loss
🐢 Increased appetite
🐱 Cataracts
🐢 Weakness
🐱 Lethargy
🐢 Poor skin condition

Pet obesity is a rising concern in the UK, and it often goes hand-in-hand with diabetes. Our team offers glucose testing through blood or urine samples to detect diabetes early. Additionally, our tests can check for elevated liver enzymes and electrolyte imbalancesβ€”both of which can be indicators of diabetes.

Do you have a pet with diabetes? Share your experiences in the comments below; we'd love to hear from you.

🦷 When was the last time you checked your pet's teeth?

Did you know that your pet's dental health is just as crucial as your own? Dental disease is a common issue for both dogs and cats, and it can impact their overall health more than you might think.

Here are some key signs to watch for:
πŸ‘ƒ Bad breath (that "doggy breath" isn't normal!)
πŸ”΄ Red or bleeding gums
🍽 Difficulty eating or chewing
πŸ’¦ Excessive drooling
🦷 Loose or missing teeth
🟀 Teeth covered in tartar

If you spot any of these signs, it might be time for a dental check-up! A healthy mouth means a healthier, happier pet. πŸΆπŸ±πŸ’–
