Ralph showing off his new found loose lead skills 😁
Hey Andy. Seen the biggest difference in Ralph since our training session. His recall is perfect and walks lovely on his lead. Just want to thank you again. 😄
Some snippets of our 5 year old granddaughter messing about with our patrol dogs, she says she wants to be a dog trainer...
So today's session was a bit of a mixed bag, the beginnings of tracking, there were two articles (metal bottle tops) the point of this exercise initially was to determine where Luna was at with her tracking, two poles were put out one being a decoy, we simply wanted to see if she could pick up the scent / track by just walking past, no cues, nothing from the handler, just her finding a track, finding the bottle tops that were covered over & a clear indication, yes there were a few mistakes but it's a starting point, the send away to a designated point has begun, & then a bit of fun on some of the agility equipment to let off some steam 😁
So today's CT session was about the detection of an unauthorised person & then conditioning the response, no challenges, no cues or commands, simply letting the dog use its nose to either track, or air/ wind scent or any combination to determine the persons whereabouts & respond accordingly to deter the intruder, the hides became harder & so on, the only time the handler could communicate with the dog was to mark the required behaviour & to praise their dog for responding 😁
So today we had a trainee GP dog (Luna) do some article searching, the articles were as shown, a mobile phone & a metal bottle top, they were placed in a very over grown search square with traffic cones, mop bucket & other stuff in there, the bottle top was then placed a good distance in an open field & covered, & then in a field shelter with a decoy scuffed area & separate article, over some obstacle planks & behind a corrugated sheet to add another degree of difficulty to the exercise, not bad for a beginner 😁
This is the young dog featured in a previous post, level, calm, & controlled
I love days like today, a snippet of this little fella, he had his 3rd session today, he was so reactive to traffic that he would not walk past it or by it without snapping snarling, lunging or trying to chase after the vehicles in question, just would not walk while traffic was around, to the point where he would not focus on anything else 3 sessions in 2 weeks & some cracking work put in by the owner & we have some progress! We've also done quite a lot of obedience, he now recalls, walks on a loose lead, sits, downs, stays, leaves when told, & is starting his positional work, after this snippet we moved to some BAT work on a line allowing him to make his own choices etc, he now engages & focuses more & is generally a happier little soldier
Happy days!
