Hi everyone,

You may have all noticed that there’s been less activity recently - the rescue has had to work on a much smaller scale over the last few years, mainly because of a big reduction in trustee capacity, and in committed foster carers or volunteers.

This year we have been considering how we can take a break from actively helping, to give ourselves the opportunity to recover, without closing the rescue completely and we are just wanting to let our wonderful supporters know that we have decided we are taking an open ended break from the rescue.

To our regular donors, we seek your blessing to redistribute some of our funds to some local rescues who are still in a position to help at this time, as we simply are not, and ask you consider supporting their fabulous work instead. We have already made some of these donations, including to Senior Staffie Club and Greyhound Gap, with smaller ones to others in support of particular dogs, such as JR Whippet Rescue, Animal Lifeline, Cheadle Animal Welfare and Beagle Welfare and we ask that you cancel your current donations to us and consider some of these wonderful local rescues as an alternative.

We're sorry if our communication hasn't been as good recently - all we can say is that it's been a difficult time. We thank you all for your support over the years, from us and the hundreds of dogs that we have helped, we couldn't have done it without you ❤️

Cybil is a 7-year-old female Beagle. She is looking for a loving home/foster home with someone who understands the Beagle breed or is willing to learn!

Due to her past, above all else, Cybil needs someone with a huge amount of patience and a dollop of resilience to help her feel safe and secure. She will repay you with a huge amount of beagle love but please be prepared to give her time to settle.

Being a typical Beagle, Cybil is hugely food focussed and this will need to be managed carefully as she settles in and you start to learn her ways.

Cybil loves her walks and would be a great companion if you liked getting out and about. She’s also super smart and would be thrilled if you worked her mentally as well.

Cybil has lived with dogs and cats previously but cannot live with children.

If Cybil is not the dog for you please share this post - her family is out there somewhere and we need your help to find her.

Our lovely Cybil is still in kennels looking for a foster or forever home. She’s coping okay but obviously it’s not an ideal long term solution for any dog.

Cybil does have a history of resource guarding and difficulty settling however she has been showing signs of improvement and we’re sure once she’s in the right home she’ll continue to improve.

Due to her history we are looking for a very experienced home for Cybil with no children and ideally no visiting children under 12. Cybil will need a lot of understanding and patience while she settles into a new home. It would be preferred that you have resource guarding experience.

Cybil can live with dogs on the assumption they all meet and agree to it 😉 and can also live with cats however, as always, supervision will be required initially.

Cybil has had too many homes in her life and we’d really love to find her a home where she can finally be loved for who she is and feel safe and happy.

Cybil is an approximately 7 years old Beagle.

If you’re interested in being a foster home for Cybil please complete the foster form: https://www.moorlandsdogrescue.com/fostering and give as much detail as you possibly can.

If you’re interested in giving her a forever home please complete the adoption form: https://www.moorlandsdogrescue.com/adoptions

Please note that we can't always reply to everybody who applies because we are very low on volunteer numbers at the moment, but will try our best to get in contact. You should receive an automated email after you've applied which explains what happens next and acknowledges receipt of your application. Please join us all in saying a very sad ”goodbye” to wonderful Stanley, a Moorlands Dog Rescue boy who has sadly left us and made his way to the place all good dogs go. As well as “goodbye” though, we’ve also got to say a huge “thank you” to this beautiful boy. Lovely, kind Stan shared his home with 26 rescue dogs in foster care, showing them the ways of the human world, going for lovely long walks, trips to the pub, playing chase around his garden with them and letting them know if their manners needed some improvement!

There will be a stampede when you arrive at Rainbow Bridge, Stan. All of those rescue dogs coming to shower you with the love you showed them during your time with us. We imagine our Connie and Bramble will be first in the queue ♥️

Our gorgeous Cybil loves to sunbathe and would love to be in a foster home so she can enjoy some of this warm weather we’re having.

Unfortunately, with no interest in her she remains in kennels waiting…

Due to her resource guarding, which is a serious behaviour issue we need a very experienced foster home while we help Cybil feel safer and settled.

Cybil is an affectionate, friendly dog who shows no issues at all while in kennels but in a home environment she guards food and some items. In between times, she is very loving towards you but her guarding has obviously caused people to feel quite scared of her.

Full information about Cybil and what we know of her behaviour will be disclosed to anybody interested in fostering her.

Cybil is sociable around other dogs and has lived happily with dogs, including in foster so we wouldn't rule out a home with dogs but this would have to be an experienced foster home with direct knowledge of resource guarding.

Cybil lived with a cat in her previous home and in foster but would probably be best with no accessible chickens around!

Strictly no children and preferably no visiting children although this could be discussed depending on circumstances.

Cybil is around seven years old.

We know its going to be hard to find Cybil a foster home, but we also know there are fantastic people out there who will not be fazed by a dog like her.

Resource guarding can mostly be managed and even resolved with careful training, so we are hoping to find a home with the right environment to take Cybil into foster and work with her on these issues.

There is such a lovely girl in there and we believe with time and patience we will see more of the cuddly, affectionate Cybil and less of the Cybil who believes she needs to guard and defend herself.

If you’re interested in being a foster home for Cybil please complete the foster form: https://www.moorlandsdogrescue.com/fostering and give as much detail as you possibly can.

Whenever we rehome we obviously hope it’s for life however sometimes it isn’t right for the dog and when that happens sometimes the best thing you can do is change the environment!

This is the position we found ourselves in with lovely lurcher Rosie. Despite being in a very loving home it just didn’t seem to be right. The very difficult decision for Rosie to come back to us was made and we set about figuring out what kind of home would be best for her - if only they could talk!!!

A lot of luck and an offhand comment later and we found the amazing Sophie who rescues, fosters and rehomes a variety of sighthounds. Rosie moved in so we could get a better idea of what makes her happy…it didn’t take long for us all to realise that Sophie and all her new doggie friends is what makes Rosie happy and Sophie declared ‘she’s not going anywhere!’

And so, Rosie has stayed. Paws well and truly under the table! She has a great time playing with her new friends, hanging out in cafes eating sausages and when it’s time for a nap rotates around all the beds, the seats, the sofas….bliss 🥰

A big thank you to Sophie for offering to foster Rosie and for realising she was family and adopting her. We love a failed foster story.

Be happy Rosie ❤️❤️❤️

SHARES AND HELP NEEDED!!

We have a very special appeal for a dog in our care.

We’re looking for an experienced dog person/professional who can foster under a paid board and train arrangement.

The dog in question has a few behaviour struggles including resource guarding and depending on experience level, you’d be working alongside a behaviourist on a rehabilitation plan.

The dog could live in an environment with dogs and cats however no children (or visiting children) and ideally sole adult unless everyone is very dog savvy.

The dog is medium sized, people loving, non reactive to dogs and humans.

Full details will be disclosed to anyone who’s interested and meets the criteria.

Please contact us at [email protected] if you’d like to discuss further.

Please can we ask everyone to share this, the more people who see it, the more chance we have. Thank you.

She’s learning to settle and her barking is greatly reduced. In fact, there’s been no barking for the last three days!!!

Our lovely Cybil had her vet visit yesterday! She made lots of friends and was such a good girl. With the help of some treats she got her vaccinations and had a check over.

Her foster carer had noticed a small lump and we’ve been advised to have it removed. Cybil goes in for her operation on 14 April and we’ll keep you posted about progress with our gorgeous girl.

In the meantime she’s enjoying her walks and play sessions with resident dogs and her carer is starting to work on her resource guarding.

We’re keeping everything crossed the lump is nothing serious and with continued training we’ll be able find Cybil her forever home 🐶❤️

29/03/2023

Look how well Cybil is doing on her lead walking!!! Amazing progress 🙌

We’ve noticed in foster that Cybil struggles with an off switch and can get quite vocal when she’d like attention so we’re also working on letting her know doing nothing can be quite rewarding!!

As we’ve mentioned before Cybil can resource guard if she finds food that isn’t hers (from plates, bins, etc). While this can be easily managed it is something potential adopters would need to be willing to work with.

Cybil is seven and was previously in a busier household with young children - she really struggled with this so we are looking for a calmer home with adults.

Dogs - maybe if they all got on!
Cats - she’s lived happily with cats in the past
Children - no thank you

If you’re interested in giving Cybil her forever home please complete and adoption form: www.moorlandsdogrescue.com/adoptions and give as much detail as you possibly can. Look at our gorgeous, seven year old Cybil settling into her new foster home!

Cybil moved on Monday and we’re learning lots about her and what her ideal home would be.

As you can see she’s met the resident dogs and that’s going well so we do think, subject to them meeting and being okay with it, that Cybil could live with another dog(s). We also know she’s lived happily with cats in the past so a home with cats could also be considered.

She’s been happy to be left alone for a few hours with no issues.

She does pull a bit on lead so would need someone willing to continue her positive training. She also likes to be quite vocal and can bark a lot if she feels she isn’t getting what she’d like (your food) so we’re starting to work on that with her.

Cybil is a typical beagle who loves to sniff and explore absolutely everything!! She loves her cuddles and attention.

As we’ve mentioned before Cybil can resource guard if she finds food that isn’t hers (from plates, bins, etc). So far, we’ve not seen that as we’ve been managing the situation and no food has been left out. When preparing or eating food Cybil has been having her own snack and this has kept her happy and occupied.

Cybil was previously in a busier household with young children and she really struggled with this so we are looking for a calmer home with adults.

We’ll keep you updated with how she’s doing and if you’re interested in giving Cybil her forever home please complete and adoption form: www.moorlandsdogrescue.com/adoptions and give as much detail as you possibly can. Please note that we can't always reply to everybody who applies because we are very low on volunteer numbers at the moment, but will try our best to get in contact. Do you have foster experience?
Are you at home most of the day!
Do you have a pet and/or child free home?

If so, we’d love to hear from you... Moorlands Dog Rescue are urgently looking for foster homes with experienced carers, for our dogs who have welfare/medical issues.

All costs in relation to the dog will be covered and you get dedicated foster support.

Ollie, a regular foster carer said “Fostering for us has been a reward we never knew existed. No matter what the dogs story was, knowing that their future can be amazing and full of love makes it all worth while and gives you that warm fuzzy feeling inside!”

If you’re able to give dogs a lifeline please complete our foster application form: https://www.moorlandsdogrescue.com/fostering

How snug does our gorgeous Cybil look?

We think she’s definitely got the right idea at the moment!!

Cybil is still looking for her forever home and her information is below. Please read it carefully and if you’re interested in giving Cybil a home please complete the application form.

History:
Cybil came to MDR approx five years ago due to a change in her home life. Unfortunately, due to another change in home life with her current adopters she needs to find a new home.

What we know:
Cybil is a beautiful, seven year old beagle. She could live with another dog subject to positive introductions and has previously lived happily with a cat so applications from cat owners are welcome.

Cybil loves people and enjoys a fuss and cuddles. She does however struggle with and gets stressed around, very young children and babies so we could only look at applications from families with older teenagers who are used to dogs.

**Important** Cybil does have some resource guarding struggles which will mean any adopter will have to seriously consider if they are able to support Cybil with this.

Cybil, to date, has only resource guarded food that she ‘finds’. This may be a growl or a snap if you try to take it. You can however easily swap anything she has for a treat and then retrieve what she shouldn’t have however it can be a shock when your dog behaves in this way, if you’re not used to it. She is quite food obsessed and when she moves home will be stressed so behaviours could be enhanced.

You would need to ensure there is absolutely no food left lying out anywhere in the house that Cybil can get. It’s also extremely unlikely you’d be able to, for example, relax on the sofa with food and have Cybil in the same room. It’s these kind of changes/scenarios we need any prospective adopter to seriously consider.

Cybil is a typical beagle and loves to sniff and explore. She may be quite full on when she moves due to stress and she can be quite vocal - as is typical of the breed.

It’s likely that with time, patience and a training plan that Cybil’s behaviour could improve and we would be willing to support with this.

Walking:
Cybil walks happily on lead. She doesn’t currently go off lead however with training, this could be possible.

Travelling:
Cybil travels well in the car.

Health issues:
No health issues.

Ideal home:
Cybil’s ideal home would be one without children - older teenagers would be okay subject to everyone understanding how to manage her resource guarding. She could live with others dogs and cats following positive initial introductions.

Cybil loves people and while she can be left for a few hours you’d need to build up to this so a home where someone is around a lot or has the potential to arrange their work to be at home with Cybil initially as she settles.

Standard information:
Cybil is neutered and microchipped. Vaccinations, worm and flea treatments will be up to date.

If you’re interested in giving Cybil her forever home please complete and adoption form: www.moorlandsdogrescue.com/adoptions and give as much detail as you possibly can. Please note that we can't always reply to everybody who applies because we are very low on volunteer numbers at the moment, but will try our best to get in contact. You should receive an automated email after you've applied which explains what happens next.

*PLEASE NOTE, THIS IS NOT A MDR DOG, PLEASE CONTACT Cheadle And District Animal Welfare Society DIRECTLY*

Cheadle Animal Welfare Society is still looking for a wonderful home for Scarlet, an 8 year old large mixed breed dog.

Sadly her ‘Dad’ who she was so devoted to died last year and her ‘Mum’ who loves her so much too is not now well enough to care for Scarlet on her own though. It is heart breaking for all concerned. She is still waiting to meet someone and show them how nice she is.

Scarlet needs to find an understanding home with someone (or a couple) who is/are patient and extremely experienced at handling strong dogs. It will take some lead in time to get to know her and she you before she can go to a new home. Once she does she will be your devoted companion and she is so worth taking time to see how lovely she is.

She needs a quiet home where she can settle down again and enjoy a lovely home life with a fully secure garden. A busy home with lots of people coming and going will not suit her. The home must be pet free and child free too. She will pull towards other dogs if she sees them so you must be capable of holding her. We can still arrange for some of the longer walks for her if local to us.

If you feel you can offer all that Scarlet requires and can spend time getting to know her please do get in touch with us.

Cheadle Animal Welfare Society will offer all the support and back up that we can to help Scarlet settle in, plus any ongoing support needed too.

A permanent local foster home would also be ideal.
Her full details and photos are on the Dog Rehoming pages of their website www.cheadleanimalwelfare.org.uk

https://www.cheadleanimalwelfare.org.uk/scarlet/

Please do consider her!
If you have the right circumstances for Scarlet please telephone 07731 616 025 or email [email protected]

08/03/2023

Hi everyone,

We are really sorry to bring more sad news, but we have had to say a loving goodbye to Bramble. We didn’t ever expect to have him for very long, but wanted to give him a wonderful autumn to his life, for however long it lasted. We hope that, with the help of some of our most committed fosterers, Mary & Ollie, and Andy & Alex, we did exactly that.

You may remember Bramble arriving with us late last summer. He was skinny, weak and uncoordinated and his microchip confirmed what his lovely grey old face hinted at; he was an old man of 13. In our hearts we knew that he was already nearing his time, and our vets confirmed that he had a condition called GOLPP (Geriatric Onset Laryngeal Paralysis and Polyneuropathy), which was already quite advanced. It was causing gradual paralysis of his nerves, especially in his larynx but also in his legs. He’d lost a lot of muscle mass and his back legs were very weak.

However, we could soon see that despite his condition, Bramble loved cuddles, walks and snoozing on the sofa wrapped in a blanket. He especially loved his food and would chatter his teeth at deafening volume with excitement for his tea. With the advice of our vets, we thought we could help him enjoy a good quality of life for a while yet.

So that’s what we did. During his assessment stay with Andy and Alex he had lots of lovely walks and social times with their lurcher Stan. He started his famous chattering for food and his stamina improved. He had a couple of crises with his health, needing extra treatment and care, and we started to worry about making the wrong decision for him, but he then started to visibly improve. His coat got better, he started to put on a bit of weight. He clearly was enjoying his life.

After moving to Mary and Ollie he continued to thrive. They fitted him with little bootees, to improve traction and help stop him skittering about and give his muscles a chance to improve, and - they did! He went on a couple of very enthusiastic walks a day, ran and barked in his dreams and gained a total of 4.4 kilos! He could climb steps and jump on and off the sofa. You probably remember the video of him ‘pronking’ like a gazelle to greet them. He terrorised the cats on the kitchen work surfaces (and sometimes a pan or the kitchen roll - well, his eyesight was rubbish!). At Christmas he agreed to dress as Santa in return for treats. Bramble was having the best possible twilight to his life and we celebrated every day with him.

Bramble was with us for 5 happy months. He never lost his enthusiasm for his food, but his throat paralysis continued to progress and soon a couple of times Bramble really struggled to breathe, causing him to collapse. The last thing we wanted was for him to end his lovely life afraid and in distress so we decided it was Bramble’s time. Mary and Ollie gave him his best ever couple of days, full of steaks, ice cream, walks, love and dreamy snoozes while watching TV. Then they bravely let him go, peacefully and surrounded by love.

This is what they have to say: “We were very honoured to have been given the chance to open up our home to Bramble. He was a sweet, kind old soul who never let life get him down. We fell in love with everything about him, his little teeth chatters, chin nibbles, insatiable appetite and his see-saw running. Our house and hearts won’t be the same without our sweet boy but we take pride in knowing his finals days were full of love and we managed to make a difference in his life.'

Regular followers will probably have noticed that we’ve always tried to help dogs with significant health conditions and disabilities. Inevitably these dogs struggle to find rescue help even more than others, resulting in their lives being cut short, so we’ve always found it so rewarding to step up and help them when we can. We’ve especially noticed post-covid and during this cost of living crisis, that more and more dogs are being surrendered. So our increasing focus on these dogs has been a conscious decision, supported by the great relationship we have with the excellent team at Willow Veterinary Clinic, who always work flexibly with us and give us sound advice so that our dogs get the best possible chance at a good life. So, you’ll see us helping more dogs like Bramble in the future and we really hope you’ll continue to support us in this.

If you’d like to help us help more dogs like Bramble and the others, you can donate using the link. Every little helps!

We have a plea for all our lovely supporters today… please could you share the lovely Cybil’s post. She’s an amazing girl who would benefit from being with someone with breed experience, some knowledge of resource guarding and who is willing to be patient with her and give her the time needed to settle into a new family.
Please share far and wide!!! Thank you 🙏🏻 😊
