👶🐶 Preparing Your Dog for Baby’s Arrival
Bringing a baby home is exciting — but it’s also a big change for your dog. Here are some simple ways to set everyone up for success:
✨ Before Baby Arrives
• Start shifting walk/feeding/play times gradually so changes don’t feel sudden.
• Create a cosy safe space (crate, bed, or gated room) where your dog can relax undisturbed.
• Set boundaries around baby furniture early.
• Play baby sounds quietly + pair with treats to build positive associations.
🦴 Train Key Behaviours
• Settle on a mat/bed → perfect for calm downtime.
• Leave it/drop it → for toys, bottles & baby items.
• Polite greetings → no jumping when baby’s in your arms.
• Loose lead walking → stroller walks will thank you later!
👶🐕 First Introductions
• Have one adult manage the dog, another bring in the baby.
• Reward calmness, no forced interactions.
• Baby = good things (treats, calm praise, enrichment).
💡 Once Baby Is Home
• Always supervise — never leave baby & dog alone.
• Keep enrichment high with sniffing, chewing, and training games.
• Use baby gates to keep safe separation when needed.
• Stick to routine where possible to reduce stress.
With preparation, patience & positivity, your dog can adjust beautifully and even thrive as part of the new family dynamic. ❤️
