Appointment Arrival Times

We are busy than ever now summer is upon us. ☀️ 🐾

A polite reminder to urge people not to turn up more than 10 minutes before their appointment time.

Arriving 20-30 minutes early causes us parking problems especially if arriving in multiple vehicles.

We also have protocols in place for nervous and reactive dogs which allow them to enter and exit the premises in a stress free and safe manner. Early arrivals can make this incredibly complicated especially if exiting vehicles and walking their dogs in the courtyard after a long journey.

If you’re journey to us has been shorter than anticipated (especially newcomers) we urge you (where possible) to make use of the public park just behind the church at the top of the lane to kill some time, stretch your dogs legs and give them a toilet break before arriving with us. It’s approximately 2 minutes away in a vehicle.

If it’s your first time with us please ensure you arrive 5-10 minutes early for the quick safety briefing.

Spring improvements:

The last bit of astroturf has gone and been replaced with the red version of what’s in the pool room as it’s a high footfall area.

🤩🐾 DON’T PANIC: WE ARE BACK OPEN 🐾🤩

But we had to share how our weeks been and apologise to all the customers who it DID affect.

This week one of the worst things ever hit us!

The pool emptied due to an oversight in our cleaning routine. We let the cyclone valve open…and left it open for 5 hours having forgot we’d opened it. Pure exhaustion and stress as a member of the family ended up in hospital and we’ve been working so so hard for months now without a break.

Soooo, on Tuesday night we had an unexpectedly empty pool! Over several days we have refilled it but the air source heat pump was struggling to bring it back to temperature in time for the weekend. (Sorry guys)

We are pleased to report everything is now back to normal, we are reopening tomorrow!

The temperature is back to 29.5 and the pool is nice a fresh!

We had a much needed break too so every cloud has a silver lining we guess.

Please be kind to us when you see us…it’s been abit rough 🤣🐾🤣🐾

6.30am swim with my scruffy Bobby Dog!

He’s come so far since his IMPA diagnosis, reaching full remission and then subsequently defeating IBD and medication induced thrombocytopenia as a result of treatment.

He was on high doses of steroids for over two years which stripped off all his muscle mass and had a knock on effect on his already existing hip dysplasia and spinal problems.

He’s our little superstar and the reason Soggy Dogs exists today. 🤩🐾🥰

Because of him we’ve been able to help out so many poorly pups and their worried owners.

My dog in a million. 💕🥰😍

Polite Reminder

Shedding season is upon us and our fur babies are getting rid of their winter coats ready to have some fun throughout spring and summer.

We work hard to keep as much hair out of the pool and stay on time inbetween sessions but some breeds can’t help but leave half of themselves floating behind in the pool at this time of year…especially the golden oldies 😂

If you have any of the below breeds we’d really appreciate it if you gave them a nice brush over the night before or the morning of your swim to help us out.

Also matted dogs going in to water only makes the mattes tighter when there coat drys. We don’t want any having to brave the shave.

[MORE IMPROVEMENTS]

The little things matter!

Hooks added to the shower room and the pool room for hanging clothes and a ‘waterproof’ clock added to the pool room.

We have got bets on how long that clock will last in that environment 🤣

When you make realistic suggestions we will always endeavour to improve.

[NEW IMPROVEMENTS]

You might want to wear sunglasses for this one!!! 😂

It’s been a mega busy afternoon! We’ve improved the flooring to soft, anti slip matting around the pool area and kissed goodbye to that astroturf!

It’ll be finished by this evening. 🤩👏🏼🤩

We’ve had such a small window of time to get this down causing as little disruptions to bookings this afternoon but mission accomplished. 🤯🙃🤪

We had a pump motor malfunction to deal with too but we conquered today against all odds.

We hope you find the new flooring nicer to look at, nicer to walk on and gain even more grip around the pool area for you and your dogs! 🤩👏🏼🐾💕

Things to think about if you are taking your dog who is on the ‘Exempted List’ on holiday

It is such a tough time for owners of dogs who fall into the 'XL Bully' category especially when it comes to booking a holiday. We will continue as we always have to welcome all dogs of all shapes and sizes.

As multiple dog owners ourselves we know that Rill's outside enclosed quarter of an acre garden is not suitable for every dog. This is why we have a dedicated page on our website www.slaptonholidaycottage.co.uk/garden to help guests decide if we are suitable for their dog's needs.

We also only take direct bookings so guests can ask us any and all questions they want and we can give very honest answers. The last thing anyone including us wants is a dog getting out by themselves.

We know that we will not be suitable or have the available dates so I created this blog with tips on what to look for and questions to ask when looking for a holiday and I have fully investigated with the relevant authorities for their guidance.

[XL Bully friendly secure field]

We had a great morning run out at JP's Pooch Paddock this morning.

It’s a great secure field approximately 4 minutes away from us.

We had a good chat with Lorraine this morning and she said they are still allowing XL Bullies to exercise securely and happily here and will continue to do so going forward.

It’s our place of choice for our bunch! They absolutely love it.

There’s no chance of bumping into other dogs entering or exiting the field and the gate is literally next to your car. It’s perfect!

💔🐾🤩 It happened by chance but we are delighted that our last swim session of the year ended on 2 XL Bully’s…on a day like today in the dog world we thought it appropriate to not charge them!

At least we were able to make sure two were having fun today! 😭😭😭

We are operating as normal from 27th all the way through to new year.

With the cold weather swooping in and many of you coming to us to swim instead of walking in this weather we want to remind you of the importance of keeping your dog(s) warm after their swim…especially the golden oldies or those with existing joint problems.

Sunday 5th November 2023 Early Close

As we’ve previously done, we will be closing at 4pm on Sunday 5th November in preparation for the fireworks.

The pool room makes fireworks sound a lot louder due to the acoustics of the room, we don’t want your dog to gain a negative association between fireworks and swimming or you guys getting caught out as we are on rural outskirts and have a lot of activity from Mallory Park and surrounding areas.

Bookings have started for that date so if you want to tire your dogs out in preparation, reserve your slot now. 😴

XL BULLIES

we’ve had a lot of questions relating to the XL Bully ban and whether or not they will still be welcome at Soggy Dogs…

The answer is simply YES!

They will be expected to follow the same rules as any breed of dog on the premises….

IF they are reactive or aggressive they and the owner will follow the same protocol we have in place for all breeds of aggressive/nervous dogs including the police dogs that swim here.

Soggy dogs is a place for all dogs to have a safe and secure place to exercise.

As a reminder:

1. ALL DOGS are to be kept on the lead until they are safely in the pool or shower room reactive or not.

2. Reactive dogs need to be brought to our attention at the time of your booking in the ‘special requirements’ section of the booking system.

3. On arrival reactive/aggressive dogs MUST remain in a locked vehicle until instructed otherwise (this will be no longer than 5mins…unless you’ve arrived insanely early in which case you’ll be in the car with them) 🤣

4. We cannot stress it enough…if your dog is reactive/aggressive/nervous and is likely to show aggressive behaviour to any staff, other customers or dogs WE NEED TO KNOW so we can make sure you and your dog have a stress free visit and everyone feels relaxed and safe.
