Absolutely 🙌

Trust your gut.
If it feels wrong, it most probably is.

Yesterday and today I saw clients who were using these instruments of torture.
They were told to use them by their previous “trainers”
They were told that they didn’t hurt.
They hurt and damage the delicate neck, the thyroid gland, the trachea….many get terrible arthritis in their neck as they age, from this equipment.

I train humans.
I train humans to treat their dogs with kindness, love and care.

Does pain and intimidation work?
You bet it does.

Does the little boy threatened with a beating clean up his room before his dad gets home? Of course.

 Does the little boy down the street clean up his room just as well when his dad promises a hot fudge sundae if he gets it accomplished?

I don’t know. Maybe the little boy who is threatened cleans up his room better? Maybe the boy excited to get a hot fudge sundae does a better job?

One relationship will leave the child living in a state of fear. Emotional scars will last.
Nobody wants to live their life afraid of what’s around the corner.
Nobody should want to inflict this on their dog.

I want my dogs to be happy and excited when I walk in the door. Happy about what fun we will have and what wonderful thing we will do next. Not afraid about what will happen and what pain will be inflicted.

Can’t believe this kind of stuff still goes on, but it does.
It’s not OK. It does hurt.
It really really does.

Grateful to have made a difference today.
We can’t help every dog, but for those that we do help, by training and educating their humans, their lives have been changed forever.

The phase of loving but not liking your Puppy is real for just about every puppy parent. And when it's your first time, it feels like it's a never ending challenge.

The first thing we recommend is MORE SLEEP.
Puppies need a tonne of it to restore and to process.
Lack of sleep makes a bitey puppy cranky. And like with a toddler - you'll know about it. But it'll be through those razor sharp pincer teeth.

We'll work through this bitey phase with you.
We'll look at management strategies.
We'll look at routines.
We'll look at outlets.
And we'll look at soothing those sore puppy gums.

So you picked up your 8 week old Working Cocker, and at 11 weeks you questioned your choices...🙀

"There's so much information, and everything contradicts"

In an unregulated industry, it can be a minefield for new puppy parents.

A trainer on a YouTube video tells you to rub their nose in p*e, a Man on Instagram with lots of followers tells you a slip lead will solve all your problems, and the breeder told you to use puppy pads galore. Whilst (unsolicited) Kev down the road tells you what worked for his Lab 15 years ago.

I mean... what is the weirdest piece of advice that you were given as a Puppy Parent?

Yesterday we heard the news that little Fred has crossed over Rainbow Bridge 🌈 ❤️

This special boy entered my world back in 2015 and was a bright spark and regular in the school, attending puppy classes, socials, events and even Agility.

He was a regular at CK9 daycare and took a big piece of Nicky's heart too! You can see him running in the pics with our Charlie back when we ran our Puppy socials in 2015/16

Fred has been undergoing some really tough treatments this year, including chemo. And he's been an absolute soldier 💪 But heaven needs angels like Freddy now ❤️

The apple of his mum's world, I know he'll be missed for a very long time. We love you 🫶🫶

For over a decade, we've been working with families like yours across Leicestershire and bordering counties. Families that have an image of what life with a dog will look like in the future.

That image often includes an off lead adult dog running through the fields with kids, or settling calmly by Nanna's feet at the sofa 🥰

And this can TOTALLY be a real future, but we have to work through the puppy and adolescent phase to get there, and it's not without it's battles!

ALL part and parcel of raising a puppy, and can be super overwhelming!
