We had yet another awesome meet up this month!
These sessions are for our gal clients to come together, enjoy the outdoors, and feel good about themselves in a community of awesome humans 💪🫶

So far we've had 2 Wild Swims, 2 Paddleboard sessions, and we've been camping!

Just a little note.

For those who get frustrated with their dogs.
For those that are heavy handed with their dogs.
For those who believe a dog is out to make their lives hard.
Or for those who truly believe any defiance is dominance.

PLEASE take a second to reflect through the following:

➡️ Your dog is trying really hard to exist and predict in a world that we have made so foreign to all of their natural inhibitions. Give them a break

➡️ Your dog's behaviours have functions and they come from MANY places, which includes: to feel safe, to remove hunger, to remove stress, to create space, to feel good, to create proximity, stimulation, relief of Boredom, etc. Look for the cause and function, rather than jumping into physical management

➡️ You control when and where your dog poops, pees, sleeps, drinks, socialises, walks, speaks, ...... Your dog IS NOT on a pilgrimage to world domination, they just want to be able to have some autonomy in their lives - particularly ex street dogs

➡️ You can buy all the leads, collars, or modern torture devices that you want. But that is MANAGEMENT, not training. And you'll rely on them

➡️ Your dog did not choose to come into your life and live in your home. This isn't a YOU VS THEM thing. There doesn't need to be a "Top dog". This is cohabiting, and it involves building an understanding of each other

➡️ You are your dog's person. Likely the person that they trust the most. It's SO important that you retain that. Anything that you are told to do to your dog that feels that it would breach that trust - kindly decline

Behaviours can be super frustrating and stressful to manage. But you CAN change them kindly.

Always be kind to your dog❤️

We have to remember that:

🐶 They didn't choose to live with us
🐶 They have very little say in what happens in their own lives (so please, enough with the dominance chat)
🐶 They live in a human society that is extremely foreign to them in terms of their communication, desires, and natural behaviours (this is where reactivity comes in)
🐶 It's about cohabiting, not dictatorship (there doesn't need to be a "Top Dog")
🐶 They are living, thinking, and feeling beings
🐶 We are not perfect, and we absolutely can not expect our ideal of perfection to be projected onto them (your dog most likely thinks that you're perfect in your own way)
🐶 If it feels morally wrong, it probably is (no matter what ANYBODY says to you - including dog professionals)
🐶 Our dogs work tirelessly trying to read our movements, emotions, and patterns to create stability and predictability (safety)
🐶 Empathy helps to see how a dog might process and store the experience that we're exposing them to (try to see from your dog's point of view before you engage)

Train with kindness, always 🫶

This is slightly about work, slightly not. I met Carla in March last year when I decided to give agility a whirl (30 weeks pregnant) with Felix
-
Since then, Carla has become a friend, and actually inadvertently changed my life. Why? Carla is the reason I quit my office job and took up run and Canicross coaching full time. Over a coffee, we chatted about my idea of working together with Carla’s Completely K9 Dog Training to start a foundation Canicross introduction. I also enrolled onto my level 3 Canicross coach course and handed my notice in at work - that little chat gave me the confidence I needed

ANY-way(!!) back to Carla. I’ve now been coaching her running for a few months, and early on she surprised me with ‘hi, I’ve entered an ultra marathon!’ (🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️)

Today, she and her friend Kim completed 50km (of what appeared to be boggy, ankle deep fields and trail 😭) and still has a smile on her face at the end. In this training cycle she’s purchased a house, painted and decorated it from top to bottom, runs an extremely successful dog training company and has auntie duties for a 1 year old and 2 dogs! She’s an inspiration

Coaching people like Carla can be stressful (who enters an Ultra with no warning?!), but it’s super fun and so worth it!

Officers are appealing for the public’s help to trace two men in connection with an incident where a dog suffered serious injuries after being attacked by another dog.

The incident occurred at around 3pm on Sunday 16 June near a bridge across the Lathkil river in Lathkil Dale when a group of dog walkers were approached by a large dog which then attacked a Dachshund, causing serious injuries.

‼NOT A REAL DOG AND BABY. ‼We all need our space. As humans we can communicate that we’re feeling uncomfortable with words that others understand. A toddler doesn’t understand this necessarily right away and has to learn the human communications and what it means they certainly do not understand what dogs are communicating. Please do not allow your toddler to crowd your dog ‘s space. Dogs need to feel safe around young children, especially because they move so erratically and are constantly doing new things. They don’t have the consistent movements of an adult.
