Happy Paws with Sue

Happy Paws with Sue Happy Paws with Sue provides a number of dog related services, including dog grooming, Telllington TTouch Techniques, 1-2-1 puppy training and home made toys.

Dog grooming services using gentle methods to promote trust and a positive experience for your beloved dog. Methods include Tellington Ttouch techniques, positive reinforcement, cuddles, singing, use of lavender aroma (on my clothing) to help calm your dog, moving with your dog when possible rather than making the dog stand still. This all may mean the groom takes a little longer and therefore sli

ghtly more expensive, but your dog will be calmer. I do 1-2-1 puppy training in your own home. Teaching basics - sit, stay, leave, down, recall. I am a Tellington TTouch training Practitioner Apprentice, which means I can work 1-2-1 with clients to help with any issues your companion animal (dog, cat, rabbit, etc) may have, whether it be behavioural or health. For example, TTouch can be used to help reduce leash pulling, fear, noise sensitivity, etc. I made a range of homemade toys, including tuggies and treat seeking mats. RARE AVAILABILITY FOR NEW CLIENTS

I currently have availability to take on a few new clients (2-3) at Happy Paws with Sue Unfortunately, I am no longer taking on large dogs due to the limited space in my salon.

I specialise in working with dogs that have a negative experience with grooming, including those that have shown aggression.

My criteria is that the guardians must be willing to work with me and their canine companion.

I am based in Leicestershire.

https://www.happypawswithsue.co.uk/.../grooming.../

Please note that these spaces are likely to go quickly so please contact me asap if interested.

There are many reasons why some dogs are sensitive to the grooming process. Some may be touch sensitive, may have health issues that make it uncomfortable to be groomed, may be a rescue dog, may have had a previous poor grooming experience or they could be a puppy that is coming for their first groo...

You cannot buy the sort of happiness that this video brings me. Bertie was referred to me a one of my wonderful local trainers, Carla Tilley, due to his extreme touch sensitivity. He also has a very restricted diet due to gut issues, he can only eat insect based food, so his wonderful guardian brings his food with him for sessions. There is no way Bertie would tolerate being lifted onto the table, so table protocol suits him perfectly.

Working with him on his terms is the perfect way for Bertie, Very low stress for him, which means I am drastically reducing his need to react to contact. I do use food, but he can now tolerate much longer periods without having to have food to help him cope.

I use a pumice to strip him, but don't hold the skin taut as that would be far too much for him.

Scissors are still an issue for him, but his guardian is working hard at home with that, and muzzle training (for vet use).

Bertie is just a pleasure to work with, and the fact that he had the best training start as well with Carla Tilley has just made my life so much easier. He always come running into the salon and runs straight onto the table.

Do you know your dogs signs for when they have had enough off lead exercise, training, grooming, etc?

My working cocker is very clear now that I have learned his communication. When off lead he happily runs around, sniffing and investigating for about 30 minutes, he will then start coming back to me asking for treats. He will then continue to do a little sniffing, then return for a treat for another 10 minutes or so. If we continue with his off lead exercise much more than 10 minutes after he starts asking for treats, he will find a soft piece of grass and start digging. If we are in an enclosed field, he will continue to dig until we make our way to back to the car.

Obviously now we know his signs, once he starts asking for treats we think about making our way back to the car before he starts digging. Not that I don't think he shouldn't have the opportunity to dig, but not in an enclosed field. It is also communication to me that he is ready to go home.

I started paying attention to this type of communication patterns following a trip to Tilley Farm where Sarah Fisher was talking about how most dogs start to display what we would consider "inappropriate" behaviours when they have had enough of Free Work, such as counter surfing.

I also notice some of my canine clients will start to counter surf in the salon after a certain amount of time, or keep going back to where their collar and lead is, this is a real good indicator to me that maybe we should wind down the session. I then make a note of how long into the session it was so that I can build up a pattern of behaviour, which then goes into my plan for their groom. If after 30 minutes they start showing these communication behaviours, planning 60-90 minute sessions is counter productive.

Paying attention to these "insignificant" behaviours can be priceless.

In the last week, I have received two 5* reviews via Goldie (unfortunately to be able to publish them via Goldie I will need to upgrade to their most expensive package).

"Sue has been so patient with me and Penny. Penny's trust of me has increased so much over the last few months and she cannot wait to see Sue when we arrive. Penny pulls me in on our visits. She's usually petrified when we go to the groomers. Its still taking time, but I can definitely see improvement in Penny's confidence overall. I'm so pleased that Sue is helping me on this journey as it's been a difficult one managing Penny's anxiety. Thank you" Harprit Sahota

"My two pooches have been going to Happy Paws with Sue for their grooms for the last 7 years. Sue is absolutely amazing with them, professional, knowledgeable and gently eased them in when they were puppies to gain their trust. They see her as family now and love going" Clare Bentley

Our Story

DOG GROOMING

Dog grooming services using gentle methods to promote trust and a positive experience for your beloved dog. Methods include Tellington Ttouch techniques, trust based techniques, Pet Remedy, positive reinforcement, cuddles, free groundwork and working with the dog rather than forcing grooming onto them. I will find the optimal way to work with your dog to give them the best experience possible. I use minimal restraints and muzzles. Where a restraint is needed to keep your dog safe, I use a harness rather than the traditional neck and stomach restraints.

DOG BEHAVIOUR SOLUTIONS

As a Canine Behaviourist, I offer 1-2-1 sessions to help solve any behaviours that your dog may have that you would like to reduce. During these sessions I will show you a range of techniques to help you help your dog.
