Our journey.... so far...
3 years ago when I began Rovers Return pet care I wanted to know about how to properly look after the dogs, I had also been interested in expanding my knowledge due to getting my own 2 pups Bert & Ernie, and making errors in training them in methods that I now know can cause issues, so I began searching for a good course on dog behaviour. I found a level 3 dog behaviour course with the British course of canine studies. I enjoyed the course so much that at the end of it I immediately upgraded to the next course, level 4.
This course was very detailed in complex behaviours, and the dogโs mind and communication etc, however, I still wanted to be able to teach my dog tricks etc, then I found the association of pet dog trainers (APDT UK) , and after speaking with them I booked myself on the foundation dog training course, where we were taught how dogs learn and how to teach basic puppy obedience classes. The group and tutors were all amazing and I learned lots more! But I didnโt have the confidence to start my own classes. When the opportunity came to attend the second part of the training course I jumped at it, but I had a year to wait! So in the meantime I completed a level 3 health and nutrition course, changed my dogs diet, and further increased my knowledge and continued to run my daycare and walking business and improved my confidence and knowledge with 1-2-1 training sessions and behaviour modifcation assessments and plans.
Part 2 was about enrichment for the dog, which is extremely important for the dog, teaching tricks, and my favourite part disability dog training (as well as many other things), again the other students and the trainers were fab! Having completed both course I was invited to apply for student membership with the APDT until I can apply for an official assessment date to be a full member which is so sought after they all sold out after 30 minutes this year!!
I am now a scent dog UK approved trainer, a dog training college approved trainer, licensed o teach reactive rascals workshops through the dog training college and next year I am booked onto an agility course to teach agility! I have also been volunteering with the dogs trust training classes for experience, so now I feel I am ready, qualified and experienced to be able to offer you lovely people and pooches my knowledge to ensure that your dog develops into a happy, confident and well behaved dog, but still be allowed to be a dog and allowed to channel natural behaviours!
