WECs (Worm & Egg Counts) are really beneficial to be carried out to have accurate knowledge of worm burdens in your animals.

This means once the WEC tests have been carried out by us (In our Laboratory), we can confidently tailor treatment where it’s needed and avoid using products unnecessarily.

This helps you reduce the risk of resistance, saves money as you are not buying products that you don’t need and protects beneficial insect life like dung beetles, whilst maintaining your animal’s health and performance.

Please see the change in our client’s goat after the WEC was carried out and a specific treatment given, the animal is now thriving. If you are interested in WEC testing for your animals please contact the farm office for further information.

Our Veterinary Surgeon – Sarah

Sarah graduated from the University of Messina, Sicily, in 2019. While at University Sarah had the chance through a pharmaceutical company to do a work experience in a mixed practice in Ireland, where she fell in love with farm vetting. Once back in Italy, Sarah joined the department of Anatomical Pathology as an intern, spending most days between labs, necropsy room and the library.

Sarah joined Park Vet Group in 2020 and developed a strong interest in infectious diseases; strongly believing that knowledge and discipline are crucial for their control.

When not on duty, Sarah enjoys spending time with her partner and her dogs Echo and Mishima, going to the gym and studying Japanese.

Our Clinical Director – Gualter

As many of you may know we welcomed Gualter back to Park Vet Group as our farm Clinical Director in January. Gualter is determined to work with you all to provide the best healthcare and support for your businesses, and to take the PVG farm business forward. We are very pleased to have him back!

Gualter worked for the Park Veterinary Group back in 2013 where he spent more than six years supporting the farm businesses around Leicestershire. He then worked in the pharmaceutical industry and developing farm data analysis software. His choice to return to clinical practice reflects the importance he places on working directly with farmers and making a difference on the ground.
He has a special interest in analysing farm data in ways that improve cattle health and production, including areas like fertility, mastitis, calf rearing and nutrition.

Outside work he is normally seen spending time with his family and doing sports. Rowing is his favourite sport, having done it for over 20 years he is an active rower and coach.

Today one of our vets Gualter was out on a beef farm doing some important heifer pre breeding examination.

This examination consists in two stages:
1- the internal measurement of the pelvis of the animal, this along side the weight and age of the animal is used to calculate the risk of dystocia at calving time
2- the reproductive tract scoring, here the vet looks at the uterus and ovaries and scores them on the level of activity.

Today all the heifers examined were with an excellent reproductive tract score, and after a good discussion, between vet and farmer, at the end of the visit, means the farmer is better equipped to decide which heifers of the group are at higher risk of calving issues and decide not to breed from them.
