This morning we had a very wet, runny nose.......... Asthma ❌.... Sinus Infection ❌..... Cough ❌......Bad Hay ❌......Seasonal Allergies ❌.....✅ The runny snotty nose, was because of the dramatic change of temperature over two nights from 30 degrees Monday night, to 12 degrees wet and damp Tuesday night.. and mum (me) didnt put his next layer on.. (bad mum) causing him to get cold over night. Ever walked out in cold winds and got a running nose, that's what Tarquin experienced last night.
✅ A horse's nose can tell you so much!!!!!
Don't worry he has two layers on tonight 'snug as a bug'. www.katiebfrisby.co.uk/salt-therapy

I have taken a break for a few days to recharge the batteries and to teach the next generation.."the love of animals". As you can see Tarquin is a firm favourite. Due to days off, my diary is very busy, please try and work with me if you would like salt appointments, it's very rare for me to have any time off during the summer season due to a lot of horses struggling, but my batteries were empty. I think I have worked through my booking in list, but if there is anyone that's still awaiting a reply or an appointment time, please do message me a reminder, with my diary this afternoon into the evening, it will be all Salt systems go now until Xmas. www.katiebfrisby.co.uk/salt-therapy

What is the difference between ....
⭐Dry Salt Therapy ⭐Nebuliser ⭐SeaSalt &Oxygen?

With many horses struggling and vets diagnosing asthma to a lot of allergy suffering horses this year due to weather conditions. I have seen the question, what's the difference between Salt therapy and a nebuliser plenty of times recently, hopefully I can try and explain to answer your questions.

There are a few types of salt therapy. There is "dry salt therapy" and 'sea salt + oxygen therapy'

Dry salt is more effective than nebuliser as the salt is dry so the salt can absorb more water (mucus) from the lungs, using osmosis.

Sea salt and oxygen.. is a type of nebuliser using salt and water, very similar to a nebuliser but because water is already involved it is limited to how much more water it can absorb

The difference between the two are dry salt can get into the upper and lower respiratory system as it's dry and heavier with the nebuliser or sea salt only getting in the upper airways.

Regular clients of mine who have regular dry salt sessions who also use a nebuliser everyday - they always say they don't see any mucus coming out with the nebuliser but after the dry salt sessions you can see mucus coming out, it's more effective, one owner describes the dry salt session as a booster session.

This is the main advantage with dry salt therapy over the nebuliser it's more effective and great for horses that won't accept a nebuliser over their face, another benefit is while the machine is on, the salt is also helping with skin conditions and other aliments, great for horse with allergies (alot of horses with allergies struggle with skin and breathing at the same time) with the nebuliser only concentrating on the lungs. The main advantage of the nebuliser is that it can be given in the middle of the field with no power source, where dry salt therapy and sea salt & oxygen does need along with some sort of area to do it in, but it doesn't have to be completely be closed off, as long as it has a roof and sides of some sort, it is do able.

But both machines dry salt and sea salt and oxygen come under the banner of 'salt therapy' so if you do have salt therapy ask and find out which one it is that your horse uses.

Do you really have to eat the grass just here?

The final preparations are being put in place for Lewis to run at Edgcote on Sunday, so I headed over to give him his first of two salt sessions today and to drop The Stars and Diamonds Racing Club colours off for the racing bag to be packed. Of course all this was after, Elara had been introduced to them, with Tarquin seen in the background explaining what they were for, I expect. It's very strange to think the next time she will see them is when her jockey is wearing them for her first race next year.

The racing colours have a triple diamond on the front and back, in black on the yellow, and these 3 diamonds are also represented in my business logo with the triple diamonds being yellow on the black

Brilliant afternoon today in the sunshine at Ashtree Equine Rehabilitation. Thank you Alex Wood for putting on a great display of what is coming soon to Ashtree and a look around the facilities, a lovely yard, 3 arenas including a cross country arena with a water complex. Also had demos on the theraplate and pole work. The yard looked great and an added bonus for any liverys that want to move there, look at that amazing tack room.

We have all seen this skeletal diagram of horses, and with this image in mind people have strong views on when horses should be ridden, older rather than young. Thermal imaging has been a great way to see Light of Elara's growing and developing into her skeleton, she will be 3 years old in May. Her body is spot on with the picture with stifles showing heat and modeling (white areas). She was also itching them quite a lot over the weeks previous, I now know why. Can you see the hot spots in her withers and back (white area) this would be noted in an older horse to have kissing spine, with Elara she has gone bum high the week before and the heat within the vertebrae is her bones modeling as the front end was growing to catch up. With Martin Collishaw and his Thermal imaging camera it has allowed me to see all the changes in Elaras body from being a yearling, 2 years old and now 3 years old. She will go into Pre-training for a month in the summer, because she is mentally ready and needs to see what being a racehorse is all about. Elara will have her next thermal scan in September before she goes into full training to make sure I am happy with her development.

Why do you use Thermal Imaging on horses?
I think it's a great way to really see what's going on with my horses body. Thermal imaging picks up hot spot/heat areas that you can then pass on to your vet and ask them to look in a particular area rather than nerve blocking everything. Martin covers all of the UK if you are interested do message him with the area you are in and he will be able to help. His page is Equine Infrared
