Happy National Hedgehog Day! 🦔💚

Today, we’re celebrating these adorable little garden visitors and raising awareness about how we can all help hedgehogs thrive! Hedgehog populations have been declining due to habitat loss, road traffic, and lack of food sources, but the good news is that we can all do our bit to support them.

🌿 How to Help Hedgehogs in Your Garden:
✅ Create a hedgehog-friendly space by leaving wild areas, log piles, or hedgehog houses for shelter.
✅ Provide fresh water and food—hedgehogs love specialist hedgehog food (which you can buy from us!) and appreciate meaty cat or dog food. Avoid milk and bread, as these can make them ill.
✅ Make ‘hedgehog highways’—small gaps in fences to help them move safely between gardens.
✅ Check before strimming, mowing, or lighting bonfires, as hedgehogs often nest in hidden places.

We’d also like to give a big THANK YOU on this Supporter Sunday to Digby’s Hedgehog Rescue, who do amazing work helping sick and injured hedgehogs. If a hedgehog is ever brought to us in need of care, they are the wonderful team who take over and provide expert treatment.

Pet Dental Health Awareness Month 🦷

During we are talking about dental problems in dogs and cats to help prevent discomfort and promote healthy teeth and gums.

Periodontal disease occurs when the tissues that surround teeth become infected and inflamed. Bacterial plaque build-up on the teeth causes inflammation of the gums (gingivitis) if not removed. Over time, infection and inflammation spread deeper into the tooth sockets, destroying the bone around the tooth roots – meaning teeth may need to be extracted (if they haven’t already fallen out!).

The good news is that plaque can be removed with daily dental home care, and gingivitis can be reversed if caught early.

We all know how important it is to clean our own teeth daily, and it’s no different for our pets. While daily brushing is the best way to reduce dental plaque build-up, some pets will just not cooperate no matter how hard we try… However, there are other dental home care options available to consider, so all is not lost!

Forever Home Friday! 🏡

Three weeks ago, we said a heartfelt goodbye to the sweet Bailey! 💙

Bailey is a confident, lively, and clever boy who absolutely loves playing with his toys, spending time with his favourite people, and learning new tricks during training sessions. 🐕✨ His new family was over the moon to welcome him into their home, and we couldn’t be happier for them all!

We wish Bailey the very best as he begins this exciting new chapter in his forever home. 🎉 What a fantastic way to kick off 2025!

Senior dogs are often overlooked at resuce centres, but they can make the most loyal, loving companions. These gorgeous girls are just after a warm bed, a kind heart, and a quiet place to call home. 🏡

Adopted three years ago, Princess is now living a life full of princess treatment✨She spends her days basking by the log fire, indulging in long, luxurious snoozes. It’s clear that her new family absolutely adores her, and who could blame them? 🐾

🐾 Meet Pixie! 🐾

Pixie is a sweet 3-year-old French Bulldog who’s looking for her perfect forever home! 🏡💕

Pixie can be a little worried at first, so she’ll need some time and patience to feel comfortable around you. She’s a smart girl who loves learning new things, playing with her toys, and going for her walks! 🚶‍♀️🐾

Pixie would thrive in a home with children over 16 and where there aren’t too many visitors. Because of her cautious nature, any potential adopter will need to visit her a few times before she’s ready to go home with them.

Her new family will need to understand her body language, help her with self-control, and encourage calm moments throughout the day. A peaceful and consistent environment will be key to helping Pixie feel secure and confident. 💖

Pixie has formed great bonds with some of the staff at the center, showing that she can make wonderful connections with the right people! 🥰

Forever home Friday 🏡💙

Max is settling in beautifully after just a few days in his forever home! Despite being startled by fireworks a few times, he’s already showing his loving, cuddly side and eating and drinking well. 🐶 His days are filled with adventure – from three daily walks on fields and pavements to joyful playtime in the garden. ✨

Max has made a doggy friend he’s happy to walk alongside and is excelling at lead training. His family is focusing on helping him navigate encounters with other dogs and people.

It’s heartwarming to see Max’s progress in such a short time, and we know his family’s patience, love and care will help him continue to thrive. Happy Forever Home Friday, Max! 💙🏡🐾
