Ive seen loads of great posts about not walking your dog in the heat. I also saw someone in my village yesterday, the car said 33 degrees and the dog walking in full sun, didn't see them with any water for the dog and it was the type of dog popularly thought 'needs walking

It's hot out there! 🥵 Make sure to keep your pup cool and don't walk them in the heat. Let's all do our part to keep our furry friends safe and sound - especially in cars!

🥵 Dogs cannot regulate their temperature, they don't sweat
🥵 They can suffer and die within minutes.
🥵 They release heat through panting, through their nose and their paws. Brachycephalic dogs suffer easily as they cannot release heat due to the short noses.

𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗸𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗱𝗼𝗴𝘀

Early signs are
Excessive panting which is sometimes noisy
Excess salivation
Glassy eye
Bright red tongue
When you see any of these then this the dog must be cooled, and have access to shade and water

If they don't cool you may see
incontinence
vomiting
diarrhea
urinating blood
difficulty breathing
collapse
seizures
loss of consciousness

This is the stage where medical intervention is needed. Remember this can occur rapidly and the longer they are exposed to extreme heat, the more likely they are to die as a result of it.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗱𝗼𝗴𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗹

Don't walk them, they don't need it.
Why put them in a position where they can be become ill?
Scent work in a cool area, frozen lick mat and kong are all calming and use energy.

Make a frozen bowl with their faviourite treats

Access to plenty of water all the time

Paddling pools are a great way to keep cool

Shaded, cool areas

Cooling products - mats, bandanas, blankets

If you really want to walk them then do it early or late, however, it didn't cool until about 9pm yesterday!
