The Bearded Pooch (formerly Shampoochies) was started by Gemma in 2014, inspired by her Giant Schnauzer, Euston. What started as one woman in her van, quickly grew to a husband and wife team, and in recent years has added more team members and a busy, state of the art grooming salon in 2 fantastic locations. Our skilled groomers use the latest equipment, technologies and skills to ensure your pets

look great and feel great after their treatments. We offer grooming for all breeds large or small, and services include nail clipping, ear cleaning, body styling, deshedding and much more. We have 2 sites - Hawgrip Plant Centre - Enderby & Palmers Garden Centre - Ullesthorpe. We look forward to seeing you and your poochies soon!

We are very excited to be able to announce that the incredible Cassandra Stephens from The Poochery Dog Grooming is going to be doing a Model Dog seminar. Cass is very well known in the grooming world for her incredible and award winning model dogs.

Whether you are looking at competing in a Model Dog class or just curious on how it is done - this is for you!

Seminar - Cass will be hosting a demonstration on how to prep, create, carve and colour a Model Dog in a seminar setting. You will be watching Cass create from start to finish with the opportunity for questions and to really understand what model dogs are about. This will be Saturday 8th Feb 2025 9-12.30 - £40

What a fantastic couple days at the POWOW Event!!

As training providers it’s rare we get chance to meet with each other so events like this are key to getting to know the iPET Team and fellow training providers! and Gemma have attended this event, listened to various speakers, seen birds of prey in action and met some amazing people with the same passion as us to deliver the highest standard of training possible!

…and we won an award!!! Runner up for the Andis Dog Grooming Tutor of the Year! To even be nominated for an award is truly amazing so thank you so so much for those that nominated. To then be given an award is amazing! It means so so much! THANK YOU! 🤩

🎄 Merry Christmas🎄

Thank you all so so much for your support, generosity and kindness in the run up to Christmas! We all feel very spoilt! Well done to the team for working flat out not just in December but all year long! Being a team of 8 split across 2 sites can be challenging to not only build relationships between each other but manage our customers as well! We make it work and we all work so well together and we enjoyed a lovely meal out on Saturday to catch up and relax! Thank you all again!

We are all taking a well deserved break so responses to messages are on hold whilst we recover - have a lovely Christmas and we will see you on the other side!

People local to Cosby - please be aware! We had an attempted break in to our house last night - quite a shock this morning to find the door handle broken off and then to find on our cameras them there for around 20mins trying to get into our house at 5am!

Luckily with Alex’s paranoia regarding break ins we barricade the front door on the inside when we go to bed so although the door lock was completely broken off and the door unlocked - they couldn’t get the door actually open.

We are shaken up but everyone and everything is fine. We suspect they were attempting to take the car. Keep safe all and be very vigilant.

A little post to say thank you for all the lovely messages, gifts and for your extra encouragement this week and going into next week! We look tired, feel exhausted and there will be tears I’m sure but without the support of our lovely customers keeping to their appointments and turning up at the correct times we couldn’t do this without you!

One last push for this week - we have a lot of dogs to get through and a lot of hours being put in! Wish us luck and we will have a new Christmas photo by the end of the week with our newest team members - for now - here is last years!

A little behind the scenes video of us creating the backdrops and putting our Christmas packages together… This has turned into a big thing for us now and we pride ourselves on coming up with something special and different each year for you all! We love creating them and we have so many laughs with the dogs taking the pictures! Planning for this starts in October and a lot of hours go into creating all of this. We had a few doubts on this one this year but it’s safe to say - it’s already been an amazing success! Thank you all for supporting our business by adding on these packages and buying the treat boxes. Supporting small businesses is so important and we cannot thank you all enough! 🙏🏻 🎄 🐶

A glimpse into the sights and sounds of a cockapoo full groom - this is Bess the Cockapoo 🧸 We are full at both sites for the week before Christmas and have very limited weekend availability for the rest of the year. Please make sure you have the last appointment of 2024 booked in! Also make sure you’ve got your Christmas packages added onto your grooms! Bauble photos and keepsake baubles - don’t miss out!

Just a cute reel of a dog that trusts her groomer and whilst she doesn’t charge into the groomers happy to be there - she trusts her groomer and that is all we ask of our dogs. This takes time and patience from the dog, the owners and groomer. Summer has been groomed every 6 weeks since a baby and it shows when she’s being groomed 🐶 ❤️ @summerthecavachon

**OPENING DAY** This has been such a quick turnaround but we are over the moon with how it’s turned out! Today is your opportunity to come and have a nose - we have some goodies as well! Open 9am until 5pm - dogs obviously welcome! 🐶 🐾

Finally finished!! Ullesthorpe - where do we start? 🤪 We have done this salon different to give us a wet room and a styling room - this should ease the clean up and the hair flying all around the salon and keep it a little tidier - emphasis on should! This will also enable us to keep the noise isolated so we can have a conversation with customers without talking over the dryers or interrupting other groomers.This salon hasn’t been without its challenges - nothing major just niggles 🤪🤪 but we aren’t divorced - yet! Thank you to everyone that has supported this dream - without your support this wouldn’t be possible. We are taking new bookings at either Enderby & Ullesthorpe so message to get booked in! 🐶 🐾 ✂️

Ullesthorpe is finally a fully functioning salon! Couple tweaks to get it finished and we will post full progress pics - we are on count down to our official opening day which is this Saturday! We hope to see you there - couple goodies on offer for dogs and humans! For now a little video on where to find us until we get our signage sorted…

Our Story

We are a husband and wife team - Gemma and Alex! We have both lived in Leicester all our life and up until 2014 we both worked in an office doing a 9am - 5pm shift. However, Gemma was made redundant and whilst this is generally taken as bad news, Gemma took this as an opportunity to start something new and something that she enjoys. Dog grooming has been something that Gemma has been interested in since she bought home Euston at 8 weeks old (he's the handsome man on the home page) - he is a Giant Schnauzer. Gemma has groomed him since he was a young puppy and he is who we have to thank for getting us both into grooming professionally. Dogs are amazing animals and they never fail to make you laugh. You cannot beat the love and happiness that they give you that moment you walk in the house after being away from them.

After being made redundant Gemma decided to gain a professional qualification in dog grooming. She gained her City & Guilds Level 2 for Dog Grooming Assistants qualification in April 2014. Although the City & Guilds qualification is not a requirement to move into a dog grooming career, she felt that she could not go into this industry until she had gained a full understanding in regards to the care and grooming requirements of some many different and amazing breeds of dogs. After only 18 months into starting the business Gemma was full and had to close her books to any new customers. At this point Gemma decided to train Alex in the hope that we could get Alex to the standard of a fully trained dog groomer to be able re-open the books to new customers. Alex succeeded and took delivery of his mobile grooming van in March 2018.

He got so busy that he took the decision to also leave his 9am - 5pm job in May 2019 and has been working as a full time dog groomer ever since and never ever looked back! We are both extremely passionate about dogs and the joy that they bring to their families. We find an amazing amount of satisfaction in beautifying these amazing animals.
