🦎 Chinese Crocodile Lizards 🦎
(Shinisaurus crocodilurus)

Shinisaurus crocodilurus, or the Chinese crocodile lizard, is a rare semi-aquatic reptile found in southern China and northern Vietnam. It is the only member of the family Shinisauridae and has a crocodile-like appearance with a muscular tail and keeled scales. These lizards live in cool, forested streams, often basking on branches overhanging the water. When threatened, they drop into the water and stay submerged to escape predators. 🐊🦎

Unlike many reptiles, Chinese Crocodile Lizards are viviparous, giving birth to live young instead of laying eggs. This adaptation helps them survive in cool, damp environments where eggs will not thrive. They are slow-moving and often stay motionless for long periods, earning the nickname “the sleeping dragon.” Their diet includes most invertebrates, small fish, and amphibians, which they ambush using a sit-and-wait hunting strategy. 🐟🦗🥚

Sadly, the Chinese crocodile lizard is endangered due to habitat destruction, pollution, and illegal wildlife trade. Deforestation and wetland drainage have drastically reduced their natural habitat, while their rarity makes them targets for the pet trade. Conservation efforts, including captive breeding and habitat protection, are essential to ensuring their survival. Researchers continue studying them to develop better conservation strategies. 🇨🇳🌳

We currently have three of these guys in store at the moment! We’re currently waiting on their A10 papers to arrive but we’re accepting deposits, we believe we have a 2.1 available. These are locality CAPTIVE BRED right here in Leicester ❤️
