Today my son gave me three bunches of lovely flowers. I planned to put them in a vase for me to smell and appreciate but then the little fury Darlings got a wiff of them and demanded a taste.LOL.

Today I attempted to put some new shelves in the boys cage. It took me twice as long as it should of to put the shelves up because the boys decided they wanted to test them out before they were fitted. Then it came to putting the new wheel in the cage. Again they refused to get out of the old wheel while I tried to take it out to replace it with the lovely green one that was gifted. It didn't end there........ In-between taking the old wheel out and new one in, the great escapee tried to escape again. Then while I was trying to hold the wheel in place and fastening the washers and bolts in to keep it in place they all decided to have a test run of the new wheel together. There I was with a handful of washes and bolts trying to put them on and one hand holding the the wheel in place. Did they care, not at all, off they went as fast as they could go until mum couldn't hold it any longer and they all slipped off. Talk about a look of disapproval is an understatement. Six eyes glaring at you is quite scary. To make things worse when I did get it fitted it was wobbling. Expecting more daggers looks there wasn't any.... They jumped back on the wheel within seconds and set off again enjoying their new wheel with an added wobberly bonus.

Another Big Thankyou to an old friend from back when I first started the rescue who has helped us out as a rescue but also helped my family personally when we were going through a difficult time and had no heating in winter.
Once again she has saved the day and donated a lovely running wheel for the boys who I am sure will have great time playing in it. Thankyou so much Ali for your constant help over the years.

Two of the sisters having a nice snuggle. The other two sistets are having time out on their own. Guess having three sisters is hard work for a degu. Either that or they have filled their tummy so full they need to lay down. LOL.

Hi All, Sorry for being a little absent from my updates but have been around getting some new stuff for the degus. Sadly I never got a reply from the person selling a wheel so have been looking else where. I messaged another lady in London for one but she had just sold it unfortunately. She has kindly donated a lot of stuff to the rescue that she still had from losing her Chinchilla last week. I have said a big Thankyou and paid the postage for her to send it all to us here in Leicester. I am so grateful for any donations to help the rescue. I have also contacted Tic Tac wheels to see if they can help. If not I will have to save up for them.
Anyway I have also got some Wooden Mazes that I am going to make into one big one for them to play in. The girls and boys are doing really well and enjoying their lovely food. I am afraid to say I can't stop cuddling and kissing them but I don't think they mind . LOL.

I'm happy to say all my degu food has arrived today and my gosh there is loads.
Lots of green leaves mix and flower mix too.
I have also got them a treat mix with a few naughty bits in, the rest I have removed.
The boys and girls are happy with their new toys and already chewed the top of the little filled hay cube. Little Rascals, glad they are enjoying them all.

OK so while cleaning the boys out yesterday it all seemed calm and collective for awhile then Meyhem and Mischief started having a crazy day trying to to give mum heart palpitations. Meyhem decided to walk on the top of the wheel trying to be a clever cloggs. " LOOK AT ME MUM I CAN WALK ON TOP!!". (yeah while I hold your butt up you mean.) Mischief thought he would try to do the Great Escape while mum was busy sorting Meyhem out. (Not a chance sunshine) I had my eye on you all the time. Pinky however was a very good boy and just Strolled around the bare floor wondering were all his hard work had gone, (his work meaning the crap and mess). All in all a interesting day. All I can say is its a good job I have two hands. One for butt holding and the other one to block the great escape.
LOL.

Hi, My Name is Mandy and I need your help.

Can you find it in your heart to make a small donation to rescue a rescue? I have been running a Leicester based rescue for degus almost a decade now, with a little help from friends but mostly from my own pocket. These sweet, social, intelligent little animals are greatly misunderstood, and so many are discarded. Others live horrible lives. Some make it to my rescue and get another chance. Here they are loved. Cared for. Nurtured. But providing homes and care for so many little ones has depleted my resources. From my own pocket I have fed, housed, cared for and provided medical care for over 400 of these little ones, not including babies, but now I get so many that the cost is beyond my modest means. I am only one person. My objective has always been to re-home these lost little ones. Find new forever homes where they will be loved and cared for. Until they are re-homed, however, they remain in my care. They trust me and I won’t let them down. Small donations add up. And what can they do? So much! Cages. Food. Vet visits for the sick. Medicine. Treats and toys to make their lives happy. Under my care they are like family. They ARE family. When they near the end of life, I hold and cuddle them, talk softly to them, warm and cuddle them until they peacefully pass. You can’t imagine how awful I feel when one needs medical care and the funds just aren’t there. Or if I have to make the awful choice of helping one and denying another. The elderly ones retire here, knowing human kindness in their final years. That is why I have set up a gofundme, (see the “Donate” button on the home screen) so I can keep doing this, keep pursuing this passion and love I have caring for these sweet little animals. To show them the good side of humanity. I do all I can, everything I can: build cages, travels hundreds of miles to re-home them, educate folks who need to know more, clean their wounds, administer their med’s, build them toys, and even harvest fresh food and make treats for them. I have a web site but even that now suffers from lack of funds. Now, the cages have worn. The vet bills have depleted my own personal resources, and the nightmarish prospect of perhaps having to close my rescue and cease helping these precious animals looms closer. There are rescues for many species of pet out there, but degus are not as well-known. They are in comparison, new in the pet world. My little rescue has been an oasis for those unfortunates who have been abandoned and will be abandoned. It breaks my heart to think that I’d ever have to turn one away. Can you help, even in a small way? Even a small donation will help buy food and medicine. The picture you see here is of a little family – a mother and her babies. They depend on her, and she depends on me now to help care for her little ones. Is there a new forever home in their future? I offer my deepest heartfelt thanks in advance to you for considering helping my precious rescue. -Mandy
