Roads & pavements heat up very quickly in the sun & can burn your pads

A simple test ...

Take your own shoes off and stand on the path. If you are unable to keep your feet on the path for five seconds, then it is not safe to walk your dog.

25/06/2020

Is your dog panting a lot? Excessive panting can be a sign of heat stroke. Let’s look closer at the signs of heat stroke and what to do if your dog is suffering from it.

25/06/2020

‼️PLEASE KEEP DOGS INDOORS TODAY ‼️
We normally say to walk your dogs later in the day when it cools down but today the temperatures remain at dangerous levels even at 9pm and later.

DO NOT walk them today. It will not hurt to miss the odd walk. These temperatures can also cause serious pad burns.
DO NOT leave them in a car for ANY amount of time.

Please see previous posts for signs of heatstroke and please share so that this message reaches as many pet owners as possible!
Thank you

🐾🐾🐾 CLOSURE UPDATE 🐾🐾🐾

You may see other local groomers are starting to reopen their books in readiness for an ease on lockdown.. however.. having just watched the GOVERMENT update we feel it’s still to early to be making assumptions. Everyone is saying different things all over social media, but we want to stick to the government advise as closely as we can.

We are putting things in place for when we return, i.e appropriate ppe and social distancing measures. We don’t want to confuse you all around with starting to book and then end up having to change appointments again.

Please be patient with us. As soon as they announce any changes to the lockdown then so will we.

As always please do get in touch if you have any genuine welfare concerns or need advice. We miss you all and can’t wait to see you as soon as it’s safe to do so xx

🐾🐾🐾 Closure Update 🐾🐾🐾

We hope you are all well! As you will have probably seen the government has extended the lockdown by another 3 weeks, this means that we will remain closed for this period.

We understand it is a hard situation for everyone but hopefully during the next 3 weeks the effect of the virus is having on peoples lives will start to reduce.

With regards to appointments, everyone who has had an appointment booked in during the lockdown period will be given priority when we reopen, we will contact you all to re-book automatically closer to the time .

If anyone who doesn’t /hasn’t had an appointment booked in during this time & would like to be added to the list please comment here or drop us a message and we will put you on the list .

Thank you for all of your continued support and we look forward to seeing you all again .

All the best from all at VANITY FUR

Farmers and wildlife charities have called on the public to use other methods to pay tribute to healthcare staff and key workers.

09/04/2020

To all our wonderful clients.

We just wanted to update you about how the guidelines stand in regards to dog grooming during this pandemic.

The Canine and Feline Sector Group (CFSG) along with Defra have isssued a statement saying that we can now work but under very stringent guidelines.

These guidelines include:

- keeping 2 meter distance between people
- Wearing full PPE - gloves , masks, apron & visor which must be changed between each dog
- Only one dog to be in the salon at one time
- The dog must be sprayed with pet safe disinfectant once handed over to the groomer before being bathed
- After the grooming session the whole salon needs to be thoroughly disinfected before the next dog can come in
- After the salon has been deep cleaned the groomer then needs to disinfect themselves throughly before taking another client in .
- Essential travel does not include driving your dogs to their appointment so you will need to walk and someone else will need to collect your dog .

There has been a lot of debate about groomers working throughout this pandemic but we feel that as much as we would all love to be back working & earning money, we need to be responsible and do our part to try and stop the spread of this terrible virus .

One major point in these guidelines that We feel is unethical is the high usage of PPE we would need to use to safely groom your dog.

It is common knowledge that the front line workers who are doing their best to try and keep people ALIVE do not have enough PPE, how can We justify buying bulk loads so that we can give a dog a hair cut ??

Another point is what happens if an accident occurred? Dog or groomer? Vets are available for emergencies but could this have been avoided? Do we really want to go into hospital at this point because we have been injured by a dog?

How many dogs would be happy to be sprayed with disinfectant (pet safe) once arriving in the salon & how can we do this without touching the dog? It’s not the kind of experience we want them to have in the salon .

On that note, our decision to keep the salon temporarily closed is not a legal one but a moral one. Once the Government (not various governing bodies) gives us the green light to open up we will do .

In the meantime keep brushing your dogs & give them a hug from us 🐶

We hope you all can understand our position and are staying safe and well.

Kind regards to you all,
Vanity Fur team

HOW TO GROOM A CAT

Always groom your cat when they are relaxed and happy and have already chosen to interact with you. Grooming is a form of human touch, so you need to be familiar with the areas your cat prefers to be touched before you start grooming your cat.

To begin, hold out the brush to your cat (as you would your hand) to see if they choose to sniff and rub their face against it to deposit their scent. This is their way of making the brush smell familiar to them.

Cats particularly enjoy being stroked around the face, so it is a good idea to start with a few strokes of the brush on the head and cheek areas before moving onto other parts of the body. Always groom in the direction of your cat’s fur. If your cat is comfortable or enjoying the grooming around the head region, move onto a few grooming strokes in between the shoulders and along the back.

The tummy area is a sensitive area for a cat, so a lot of cats prefer not to have this area touched. It’s a good idea to groom your cat in short sessions as this will help them feel in control of the situation. Allow your cat to choose whether or not they would like to rub a certain part of their body on the brush first.

Grooming sessions should be as long or short as your cat is comfortable with. Remember to take the brush away every now and then and re-offer the brush to your cat as a way of checking that your cat is still comfortable for the grooming to continue.

SIGNS YOUR CAT IS NOT HAPPY BEING GROOMED

The session should be ended before the cat shows any signs of stress or discomfort including the following:

* Skin rippling or twitching particularly on the cat’s back.

*Tail swishing or thumping.

* A sharp turn of the cat’s head towards your hand or the brush.

* Any sudden freezing or tense behaviour.

* Individual ear flicking or both ears rotating backwards.

* A swallow or lip lick.

* Head shakes.

* A rapid burst of grooming to a localised area of the body.

* Hissing or growling.

In general, always try to ensure that your cat is relaxed and happy to be groomed so that grooming becomes and remains a positive experience for your cat.

WHICH CAT GROOMING BRUSHES ARE BEST?

There are several different types of cat grooming brushes available to buy so it’s important to understand what each one does in order to get the best one for your cat.

Slicker Brush

Type: Curved/Slanted brush with very thin hooks.
Ideal for: Medium to long-haired cats.
Purpose: To remove dirt and dead/loose hair. Helps to prevent matting or with removing.

Moulting Comb

Type: Comb with different pin lengths.
Ideal for: All coats.
Purpose: The longer pins go through the top coat to detangle knots and remove the undercoat whilst the shorter pins help to gather the loose fur.

Hopefully the following tips will help a little.

Good morning everyone, we hope you are not to bored with staying in, it must be difficult but at least you are staying safe.

We are quite bored as well, but at least we are spending more time with our families, which great.

We know that when are back and running again we will have very hairy dogs and cats, and therefore we would like to remind you please keep brushing and combing your dogs and cat on a regular basis, to prevent matted coated, it's really important to help keep dogs and cats cool during the warmer weather.

Please do not be attempted to cut or clip your pets specially if you haven't done it before, as you could end up with injuries.

We can assure you that we will do our best to get all dogs and cats groomed and looking good again as before.

Meanwhile if you have any questions or queries please let us know and we will be more than happy to answer them.

Take care and stay safe and will see you all again very soon. From all of us at VANITY FUR.

Dog groomers standing together for the NHS.

Vanity Fur is proud to be one of thousands of grooming businesses following the government and industry guidelines, closing to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus
These are difficult times and much as we would like to be open, we must do what we can to protect our clients and protect the NHS.

We miss our clients and understand that they will be getting hairier, and being closed will have a huge impact on our small business but the health and safety of humans must come first!

Dog grooming is not an essential service and all salons, including home salons and mobile vans have been recommended to close to limit the spread of the virus, though we are aware some are still trying to work it is not worth the risk to have your dog groomed. Frontline workers are putting their lives and their families lives at risk to keep us safe.

Please Stay at home

-Only go outside for food, health reasons or work (if you are a key worker)
-If you go out, stay 2 metres (6ft) away from other people at ALL times
-Do not meet others, even friends or family. You can spread the virus even if you don’t have symptoms.

Rest assured that we will be doing all we can once we reopen to get everyones grooms caught up. Please stay home, protect yourself protect your loved ones and protect the NHS.
