My lifelong love affair with dogs, and of course my own adored dogs past and present, has led me to where I am now. One dog in particular started me on this journey of working with people and their dogs. Occasionally a dog comes along uninvited that turns your life upside down and makes you question everything you thought you knew – that dog was Boris, a Siberian Husky. Thanks to Boris I started d

og training with him for the first time in my life and eventually became involved in teaching others. We learned so much together and his legacy is that I am so much better equipped to help and support other people. His constant sidekick Riley continues to keep me on my toes, continually learning and improving, and ensures that I never become bored or complacent. My Canine Behaviour is the result of that journey, a dream that became a reality and a job I love; empowering others to help their dogs have the happiest life possible, no matter whereabouts on the journey they happen to be.

Star 🌟
Training sessions with this lovely girl are always so much fun. She knows what she likes and when she's had enough she's sure to let you know 🤣 Star's ability to concentrate on a task has improved enormously and her stay is one of her particular strengths. We always make time for play and relaxation too which is such an important part of any training

An excellent session with Dexter a few weeks ago near his home ... keeping things nice and simple and successful ... a stress free mini walk, calmly noting and processing things in his environment, no rush no stress ... One clever happy boy, we were so proud of him 😊

Back in action this week and gradually making my way through enquiries received during my absence. If you are waiting for a response to an enquiry, please be assured you will receive a reply as soon as possible but it may take a little time for me to catch up 🙏

It has been a very hectic start to the year already and April and May continue to be extremely busy with new and existing clients keeping me on my toes 😉 I have no immediate availability for appointments currently but am happy to advise soonest dates if you message me.

Looking forward to warmer, calmer and DRIER days ahead, less soggy dogs, mucky towels and muddy boots! Roll on Summer I'm sure everyone will agree ☀️ Pretty please!

Say hello to Bruce 🐾 🐶 🐾
I met this handsome young man recently for some refresher puppy sessions at his home. Bruce's humans are experienced Labrador owners but have not had a pup for a long time and felt they needed a little extra guidance on how to navigate these early months. Bruce is a smart and happy boy and in just a couple of weeks we have seen an enormous improvement in his manners and self control. He has calmed down a lot and is responding so positively to learning new routines. Exciting adventures await for this lovely boy I am sure 💙

Biscuit was a little nervous when we first met but curiosity soon got the better of him and he gradually became more comfortable around me 😊 At 12 months old some cheeky-monkey adolescent behaviours have crept in and Biscuit also has an anxious side, so we are putting in place a few small changes to the routine to help reduce the rehearsal of the unwanted behaviours as well as gently building his confidence. Such a gentle and handsome boy ❤️

Everything came together nicely during this week's session with Liz and Shadow, with all the components necessary for a stressfree and relaxed walk - suitable environment, good visibility, a dry pleasant day and importantly plenty of sniffy games! We couldn't have been more proud of Shadow, she did brilliantly ❤️

Zeus was happy to see me during our recent catchup session 😀 After initial excitement levels settled and he'd told me all his news 😉 he was able to relax for a while and have a little chill time while I chatted to mummy and daddy over a coffee.

DEXTER ❤️
Dexter's humans are working tirelessly to help him feel less anxious on walks. Walks in daylight hours are extremely challenging for him with arousal levels heightened from the start. Working with fear based behaviours takes time and is always in small steps. Understanding what a dog needs in order to feel safe is paramount as only then are we able to start building confidence.
During our recent session we spent some quality time in the road outside Dexter's home, focusing on calmness in his immediate environment 🐾 😌 🐾

Molly is a sweet and gentle girl, super smart and an absolute delight. She has experienced a lot of major changes in her life in the last couple of years but has finally found her forever home in the UK at the age of 9 years. Following a number of unprovoked negative incidents with off lead dogs since her arrival six months ago, Molly has become more and more uncomfortable around other dogs whilst on the lead, escalating her fear response when she feels threatened. This has meant that walks can sometimes be challenging and stressful for all. I am currently working with Molly and her lovely humans to build her confidence and develop some new super-skills which will help Molly feel safer and offer her more appropriate choices. Such a sweetheart ❤️

It was a pleasure to meet five month old Louie recently 🐶
Louie is a little nervous around people he doesn't know and needs some time to feel comfortable. During our initial session I was able to offer advice on how to help Louie feel more confident and less worried in these situations and to start building positive associations around people. By giving Louie some space and not imposing myself on him he was soon relaxed and snoozing on the couch, even allowing me to take a photo of his lovely face ♥️

Beautiful Shadow, super focused on her mum throughout our last session ❤️ Such a lovely sensitive girl who struggles with other dogs and people on walks. Building resilience, confidence and trust takes time but we are seeing more and more moments where Shadow is able to make better choices and able to self calm on occasions too ☺️

Marlow, previously Malu (right), has recently arrived from Romania after 7 years in rescue! He has been well cared for but nevertheless this is a long time waiting for your special forever home ❤️ I met the family, who are previous clients, prior to his arrival to ensure that everything was in place for a successful introduction with 4 year old Coda and to ensure a smooth and calm transition. I am pleased to say things have gone extremely well from the outset and Coda and Marlow hit it off straightaway, despite a late night arrival time. On my second visit a couple of days later it was so heartwarming to see how gentle Marlow has settled in and to hear how problem-free it has be been, due largely to the family's thorough planning and forethought. What a happy result! 😊

Meet 3 year old Bertie 🐾 It was a pleasure to meet this cheeky chappie today for our first session. Bertie has an anxious side and some changes in his behaviour recently have been causing concern. I have suggested some small changes to the routine and a fresh approach in order to help Bertie learn and to build his confidence. He is such a smart little dog and he impressed us with the way he calmly explored some new items today and quickly worked out that being polite and calm is more rewarding. I look forward to catching up with Bertie's progress very soon 😊

It's been a busy start to the year already and now back in the swing of things following the extended Christmas break.
One of my newbie visits this week was to Tater, Mylo and Rolo, three gorgeous Chihuahua housemates. Tater (named as he resembled a little round spud when a puppy!) has taken 3 month old Rolo and recent rescue Mylo under his wing and things have settled down nicely since their arrival. Tater is calm, tolerant and smart and is a good example for the youngsters to follow. I will be working primarily with Mylo who has some catching up to do but has already shown lots of potential and is such a friendly boy and so eager to please. These three are real characters and I look forward to getting to know them better over the next couple of months 🐾 🐾 🐾

Two year old Rumi is coming on in leaps and bounds 😊 I have been working with Rumi and her lovely humans since the summer and we meet up every couple of months or so. Rumi originally came to the UK from Street Hearts Bulgaria and had some early reactivity issues on the lead. However this has improved enormously and she is now much more relaxed and confident when going for walks, any reactivity is now rare and then it is usually because she has been startled. During our most recent session at a local field, Rumi had a great time playing, sniffing and running around (actually recall practice but she just thought it was all a game!). It was good to see her so relaxed and showing no concern at other dogs passing by. Well done Rumi, can't wait to catch up with you in February 👏

I have loved working with 5 month old Koji over the last few weeks 😊. Koji is a Shiba Inu, an ancient breed that originated in Japan, and he is a real lovable character with plenty of energy and confidence. He is also highly intelligent and has been quick to learn new skills and routines. Koji's paw-rents have made a superb start with this young man and their consistent approach is really paying off. I look forward to hearing about his latest adventures and catching up with progress in the New Year. Keep up the good work team Koji 👏

I love meeting brand new puppies ... who doesn’t ❤️ They're all adorable! One of my favourite roles is helping new puppy families to glide through those early weeks and months without any stress (well almost!) and to help them provide their new additions with the best possible start.
This young man is Gus and I met him for a New Puppy Visit recently. The nipping and puppy biting was definitely one of the priorities so we discussed how to handle this very normal puppy behaviour more effectively. I was able to reassure Gus's paw-rents that this will lessen ... it just doesn't feel like it right now! I was super impressed at the good start they have made and how calm Gus is learning to be 😊

Meet 2 year old Stanley 💙 It was lovely to get to know this young man recently and to help with some nervous barking which has been causing concern. Stanley is a sensitive lad who barks when he feels unsure or worried about something. In two sessions we have begun to explore how to help Stanley feel more confident so that he feels less need to bark. What a positive start he has made! I look forward to catching up with Stanley and his marvellous whiskers in the New Year 😃

This little sweetheart is Marnie 💕 At 5 years old Marnie has recently arrived in her forever home after a traumatic start in life. She has missed out on all the normal early learning and new experiences that are so essential and beneficial for young dogs and had no concept of play. At the start she was frightened of her own shadow 😢. The good news is that Marnie has settled in well and has made a doggie friend next door. On my visit Marnie was initially very cautious but her confidence grew. Being able to take her for a walk on a lead is the aim as at the moment this is an unknown for her. I've suggested some mini steps to get things started and the future looks so much brighter for this young lady 🙏 😊 🙏

Working on motivation, anticipation and enjoyment with gentle Alfie this week, focusing on the tiny details and honing handler skills. Nine month old Alfie is easily distracted and nervous around traffic so we conducted our session at a local spot where he would be better able to focus and learn 👌. *NOTE* When working with a long line it is always strongly recommended these are attached to the rear connection of a harness for obvious reasons. In the absence of this on this particular occasion (Alfie normally wears a harness) I ensured that all activities were done safely and under control.

A really positive session with beautiful Blaire this week working on recall with a long line for the very first time. She was an absolute superstar 👏 🤩 ⭐️

MURPHY AND FRIEND

A super clip here of Murphy and his young friend playing really nicely 🐾 Some lovely pauses, perfect etiquette with Murphy gently encouraging some chase from his friend who is a little unsure initially. A really great example of appropriate play that at no point escalates or goes over the top. Thank you so much to Debbie for giving me permission to share this lovely progress and a big well done to Murphy 😊 👏

Sniffari is the best! 🐾 🐾 🐾 Such a fabulous activity for dogs of all ages - perfect for my older gentleman who is a little less energetic these days - channels natural behaviour, provides brain exercise and enrichment, is just the best fun and dogs love it! Sniffari can be done almost anywhere, in the home and garden but also out and about, with the lead on or off depending on the environment and the particular dog. It's a great way of adding variety and interest to regular walking routes. Oh, and did I mention that it can help to calm and relax, diffusing tension and reducing over arousal for dogs that are struggling to manage difficult situations? As you've probably guessed, I can get a little enthusiastic about this one 😄 ... if you and your dog haven't discovered sniffari games yet why not give it a go. Gently expanding Shadow's social skills away from his familiar turf, this time at the park. While we enjoyed a coffee Shadow was able to absorb information in the environment, making sure he was comfortable and relaxed at all times. He is becoming a much calmer happier dog, less anxious and is now choosing to avoid rather than react. Huge credit to his lovely human who has worked so hard at building his trust and confidence 👏 😊

Longer lasting treat time

Relaxed enrichment time after a cool and comfortable walk this morning ... early doors 🚪 🌅 🐾 🦮 💙

Pancho the Brave strutting his stuff ... this is a massive step forward for him (literally) ❤. Still hyper aware of his surroundings and anything different, but recovery time is definitely less. He finds leaving the security of his gate and street difficult, sometimes freezing on the spot and needing a brief lift-up for a few steps, but once out and on his familiar route we are seeing huge progress with just occasional hesitation while he processes things. Baby steps ... big improvements 🐾 🐕 🐾 👏
