🚨 Today starts the month of Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month. 🚨

This month is especially important to me as I love to raise awareness of how valuable and important RVNs are. Over the course of the month I will be posting informative posts showcasing what we can do as RVNs for you and your pets.

Firstly did you know if your pet has been recently diagnosed with a medical condition RVNs can assist you in administering medication, nutrition advice and general coping mechanisms not just for your pet but for you as we understand how stressful and upsetting a chronic illness can be for us all. 💉

As RVNs we can carry out wellbeing checks and also quality of life checks to make sure your pet is maintaining as good as health as possible.

Yesterday i met Dixie and Dougie for the first time.

Believe it or not they are both over 10 years old, they look amazing for their age. They both needed their nails clipping and ears cleaning, so it was a great spa day before the summer months for them.

Now, onto a serious but fascinating topic: feline asthma. Just like humans, cats can suffer from asthma too. It's a respiratory condition that can make breathing difficult for our furry friends. Symptoms can include coughing, wheezing, and difficulty breathing. Administering medication, like inhalers, is often necessary for managing feline asthma. But here's where it gets fun and creative: using lick-e-licks to make the inhaler experience enjoyable for Dixie and Dougie is genius! By coating the mask with lick-e-licks, you're turning a medical necessity into a delightful treat time. It's all about making healthcare stress-free and enjoyable for our pets. 🐱💨

Earlier this week I caught up with my friend Sparky, who was having a bit of an "a**l" situation – talk about a tail-end twist! 🐶💨

But did you know dogs have these little things called a**l glands? Yep, they're like tiny stink bombs, but sometimes they need a little human intervention to stay comfy. It's the stuff doggy legends are made of! Ever had a hilarious pet mishap?

Today, I had the pleasure of meeting two remarkable Labradors, each at different stages of their lives but equally full of energy and charm.

At 12 years old, Sparky is a seasoned companion with a heart of gold. Despite his age, he's embraced a healthier lifestyle, shedding 5kg with the help of Pet Weight Watchers. Sparky's zest for life knows no bounds, especially when it comes to swimming and indulging in his favorite cheese treats.

Meet Dewin, Sparky's lively 11-month-old brother, brimming with vitality and enthusiasm. Currently undergoing training as a gun dog, Dewin is showing remarkable progress, proving himself to be a quick learner and a bundle of joy.

Both Sparky and Dewin were absolute champs during their pedicure sessions today!

🐾 Today's feline adventure brought me to the delightful home of Kitty Miguel a seasoned gentleman who's been entertaining some furry guests – his mums foster kittens! 🏡 Despite being a bit neglectful of his scratching trays lately, Kitty graciously accepted a much-needed pedicure session.

💅 After a few minutes of pampering, Kitty transformed into a purring paragon of patience, allowing me to trim all his nails.😺✨

🐾🍫 Easter is just around the corner, and while we indulge in chocolate treats, let's remember that our furry friends might be eyeing those sweet delights too. Did you know chocolate is toxic to pets? 🚫🍫 Ingesting chocolate can lead to vomiting, diarrhea, seizures, and serious damage to their kidneys and liver. 🐶🐱

Accidents can happen, so if your pet gets ahold of chocolate, swift action is crucial. Vets may induce vomiting (brace yourself for that unique Terry's Chocolate Orange smell!), run blood tests to check organ function, and administer intravenous fluids if needed. ⚠️🏥

This Easter, keep chocolate out of reach and, if your pet does sneak a nibble, contact your local vet ASAP. Acting fast could make all the difference in ensuring a safe and happy holiday for your furry companions! 🐾🌷

Had a blast meeting two wonderful families and their furry pals today! 🐾

Now, let's talk about the adorable Pippin, the Chihuahua cross—or, as her owner puts it, Chihuahua cross Bull Mastiff!
Today, with help from her owner I worked on a plan to trim Pippin's waistline, including a special feeding plan. I also took care of the essentials—nail clipping and emptying those a**l glands. During the chat with her owner we discovered Pippin has a little heart murmur. Stay tuned for updates on Pippin's journey to a healthier and happier pup! 🌟💕

Did you know that dogs with heart murmurs can still lead happy lives? Many pups with murmurs go on to enjoy a normal lifespan with the right care and attention from their owners. Had the best time this afternoon meeting two lovely families and their pets! 🐾

First up was Lacey, a spry 14-year-old sweetheart. Lacey and her mum, have been having a hard time adjusting to life without their dear Fi and needed a little support.

Today I carried out a check-up, clipped her nails nails, and shared nutrition and lifestyle tips to help Lacey with her new anxiety. It was such a pleasure meeting Lacey and her mum, and we're planning more visits soon.

This morning I had the pleasure of pampering sweet Dottie with a gentle nail clip and a luxurious brushing to remove some mats around her back end. 🐾 Despite being a tad shy around strangers, Dottie truly shined today!
