Here’s some photos from our recent Pet First Aid Course which is available to pet professionals and owners with a qualification awarded. This is delivered by myself and supported massively by Haigh Hounds

In order to gain qualification you would need to attend one of our events and sit a small exam on your phone. As an extra bonus we also add in some practical aspects with CPR!

We will be offering another opportunity for this in March so stay tuned as we will be releasing tickets very soon

🎃October Patients Update! 🐾

This month, we’ve seen it all— from routine nail clippings to some more serious cases, like a recent wound check for an excitable pup who had a little grooming mishap. 💇‍♂️🐶

After an unfortunate cut at the groomer’s turned into a more severe wound, I was called in to check her over. 🩹 After cleaning up, I advised an urgent vet visit, as the wound had been open for a few days and required stitches under sedation. Thankfully, the procedure went smoothly, and she’s now on the road to recovery. 🐕❤️

Top tip: Always ensure your groomer has insurance for accidents like this—it can make all the difference for smooth and affordable emergency care. 💡

Already this morning I’ve met some lovely pets! Unfortunately these two lovely pups had the same issue… the dreaded a**l glands! 😍

🔍Did you know a**l gland issues can sometimes be caused by nutrition? 🔍

Imagine a clock face at 10 and 2… the glands are located here. It’s quite common for me to hear pets with a**l glands issues usually have soft faeces. If the faeces is soft sometimes this does not express the glands naturally. Soft faeces can be due to a number of reasons such as lack of fibre in the diet, allergies/intolerances to food, constant changing of diet, stress and much more.

✅By making a small change to our pets diet such as adding more fibre in the form of fibre supplements, carrots or even a handful of bran flakes a couple of times a week on their food can make the difference when it comes to the a**l glands!

It’s always best to get the glands checked by a professional however, if the glands are normal in terms of structure I always recommend a small change to their diet!

Over the weekend, I had the pleasure of visiting Jersey to spend some quality time with my family. While I was there, I also had the chance to meet some wonderful new clients and their adorable pets, including Teddy and the gang, Pickle, Reg, Percy, Bailey, Roxy, Ravioli, Zeus, Tilly, and Scout! It was a delight getting to know everyone and helping some of the more anxious patients feel relaxed and at ease. From a**l gland expression to nail clipping, dental checks, and ear cleaning, it was a productive and fun experience ensuring everyone was happy and healthy. Looking forward to my next visit already! 🐾💙

🚨 Today starts the month of Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month. 🚨

This month is especially important to me as I love to raise awareness of how valuable and important RVNs are. Over the course of the month I will be posting informative posts showcasing what we can do as RVNs for you and your pets.

Firstly did you know if your pet has been recently diagnosed with a medical condition RVNs can assist you in administering medication, nutrition advice and general coping mechanisms not just for your pet but for you as we understand how stressful and upsetting a chronic illness can be for us all. 💉

As RVNs we can carry out wellbeing checks and also quality of life checks to make sure your pet is maintaining as good as health as possible.

Yesterday i met Dixie and Dougie for the first time.

Believe it or not they are both over 10 years old, they look amazing for their age. They both needed their nails clipping and ears cleaning, so it was a great spa day before the summer months for them.

Now, onto a serious but fascinating topic: feline asthma. Just like humans, cats can suffer from asthma too. It's a respiratory condition that can make breathing difficult for our furry friends. Symptoms can include coughing, wheezing, and difficulty breathing. Administering medication, like inhalers, is often necessary for managing feline asthma. But here's where it gets fun and creative: using lick-e-licks to make the inhaler experience enjoyable for Dixie and Dougie is genius! By coating the mask with lick-e-licks, you're turning a medical necessity into a delightful treat time. It's all about making healthcare stress-free and enjoyable for our pets. 🐱💨

Earlier this week I caught up with my friend Sparky, who was having a bit of an "a**l" situation – talk about a tail-end twist! 🐶💨

But did you know dogs have these little things called a**l glands? Yep, they're like tiny stink bombs, but sometimes they need a little human intervention to stay comfy. It's the stuff doggy legends are made of! Ever had a hilarious pet mishap?
