Medivet Leominster Delivering small animal veterinary care ๐Ÿพ

24/12/2024

We are experiencing problems with our telephones โ˜Ž๏ธ this morning and all calls are going directly to Shrewsbury branch. We are trying to get this sorted so please bear with us.

If you need to speak to Leominster or Ludlow then Shrewsbury can contact us via a mobile and we can then get back to you, alternatively Shrewsbury have access to our diary and can book appointments in should you need.

Hopefully this will be sorted quickly, thanks for your patience.

The Christmas treats are in the house and naughty pets just can't resist sneaking a mouthful...

We've had a few dogs in recently who have needed to be made sick after indulging in what's not for them ๐Ÿซฃ

๐ŸŽ„Christmas cake, mince pies and chocolates from the advent calendar are all tempting treats that have meant a vet visit has been required. These can all cause significant illness and damage to vital organs if not dealt with.

โณ If you suspect your pet has eaten a toxin please call us as soon as possible - time is an important factor. โš

๐ŸŽ It was double festivities yesterday! ๐ŸŽ
As well as our Christmas Jumper Day we had a mug painting social in the evening!

We brought snacks and goodies (and had a bailey's hot chocolate station! ๐Ÿ˜‹) to munch on before channelling our inner artists for the evening.

We love the variety of designs that came out โค

Pictured are just some of the members of staff who took part in this year's event โค

Everyone who wore a Christmas jumper made a donation which will go towards the purchase of food for a local Food Bank.

We're proud to be able to support such a great cause, even with the odd questionable fashion choice!

Gorgeous little โ€˜Elodieโ€™ had her first visit to us today after enjoying playing with her toy a bit too much! She had managed to get the bell stuck on her tooth!
Luckily after a light sedation Vet Kelly and nurse Yas managed to remove the toy and she is now recovering well at home โœจ

๐Ÿฅถ It's certainly a chilly one at the moment!

Whilst a lot of animals love the snow and cold weather, our pets can feel the cold as much as we do! Young, elderly and poorly animals need some extra TLC during the winter months to help them through.

โ„ Limit outside time when the temperatures are particularly cold, and keep an eye on your pet's temperature - often they're having so much fun they don't realise they're cold!

โ„๏ธ Don't let them eat lots of snow or drink ice-cold water - this can cause a stomach upset and lower their body temperature much quicker.

โ„๏ธ If you have outside small animals cover their water bottles with bubblewrap to stop them freezing, and top up with plenty of hay and bedding. Consider bringing them inside or getting a hutch cover. Check them regularly to ensure they're warm enough.

โ„๏ธ Be safe, be seen! As the nights draw in and it's dark much earlier make sure your dog can be seen when out on walks. Consider getting a high-vis jacket, collar or light to attach to them.

โ„๏ธ Consider keeping cats indoors after dark and in bad weather. Lower visibility can increase the risk of road traffic accidents, or disorientation in severe weather.

โ„๏ธ Dry pets off quickly and thoroughly if they get wet on a walk or come in from rain or snow to prevent them catching a chill.

This is Millie who was recently reunited with her lovely owners after being missing for just over two years! Millie was brought in to our Ludlow Practice by a member of public who spotted her taking food from bird tables.

Luckily, Millie was microchipped so we were able to contact her owners who came to pick her up. She has settled straight back in to her family home getting cosy after her adventures over the last two years. Weโ€™re so pleased for them all! ๐Ÿฑ

Call us on 01584 877877 or 01568 612266 to get your pets booked in to be microchipped ๐Ÿพ

๐ŸŽ‰Some great guesses, and a lot are half right! Congrats to Luke Jones & Debbie Bouston who were absolutely right! This gorgeous lot are a cross between Dutch Shepherd x Belgian Malinois ๐Ÿ˜๐ŸŽ‰

Check out this absolutely gorgeous litter we had in recently for first vaccinations and microchipping! ๐Ÿ˜

๐ŸพCan anyone guess what breed they are? Let us know in the comments! ๐Ÿพ
๐Ÿ’ก Hint: they're a cross of 2 breeds!

With 13 puppies they certainly kept us busy, and they had a whale of a time exploring our consulting room - they were thoroughly tuckered out by the end ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿ˜ด

๐ŸŽƒ Halloween Hints ๐ŸŽƒ

Halloween is nearly upon us, and whilst it's great fun for us it can be an unsettling time for some of our pets.

Tips to help your pets this Halloween;

๐Ÿ‘ป Be aware that some pets may find trick-or-treater's unsettling, especially if they're in costume! Consider putting a bowl of sweets out with a note not to knock if your pet may find this worrisome.

๐Ÿ‘ป Keep chocolates and sweets out of reach! Many sweets may contain the sweetener Xylitol which is poisonous to Dogs.

๐Ÿ‘ป Pumpkin is great for dogs! A small amount of cooked pumpkin is a great addition to keep your dog included in the celebrations. Just be mindful of too much or you may have an upset tummy!

๐Ÿ‘ป Beware of decorations! Some of our pets can be a little naughty and take a nibble on things they shouldn't. Keep decorations out of reach and check them for any damage if your pet is a chewer!

โ— If you believe your pet to have ingested anything they shouldn't have please give us a call as soon as possible to have them assessed and treated if needed โ—
