Their loyalty and bravery remind us of the many who contributed to the fight for freedom.

This gorgeous girl has been in this week to be spayed 🐶

Peggy, is a Standard Poodle X Bernese Mountain Dog 😍

She is such a lovely lady, with a kind personality 🥰

New vet Kaz spayed her, with the assistance of vet Abi and nurse Tara monitoring her anaesthetic 🩺🌟

👂🏼Ear disease in small animals👂🏼

Ear disease is very common in dogs and cats and can be painful and irritating for them 😣

Some animals are more prone to ear infections than others - for example those with underlying allergies 🤧

Symptoms of an ear infection may include:
🦠 Holding the head to one side
🦠 Shaking or scratching the ears, or sometimes rubbing them along furniture or the floor
🦠 Smelly ears
🦠 Redness and discharge from the ears

An ear infection it is best to treat sooner rather than later ⏰

Some infection will resolve quite quickly with cleaner and anti-inflammatory but others can be persistent 🩺

If infections are left a long time they can result in chronic changes to the ear 👂🏼

Examination of the ear allows us to check the level of inflammation in the ca**l, whether the ear drum is intact and if needed to take a swab to determine the type of infection present and work out the best form of treatment 👩🏼‍⚕️

Fake Halloween Spider Webs Can Be a Real Danger to Birds❗️

It's fun watching all the Halloween decorations going up in and around our local area 🎃

But please take into consideration the wildlife that may come across the decorations and find themselves in tricky situations 🕸️

Fake spider webs are often placed on bushes and trees or around window ledges - all places where birds tend to land and they can become entangled 🐦‍⬛

Trees and bushes serve as wonderful places for birds to rest or hide from predators, but when wrapped in fake spider webs, a place of safety can quickly become a trap that they can't escape from 😣

Take a second to remember about our prickly friends along the ground too 🦔

Entertaining your pet this spooky season 👻

It’s important to keep your pets happy and healthy with lots of fun and enrichment 🐶🐱

Easy enrichment ideas for your dog;
💡Dig Box - this is a simple way to create enrichment from household recycling, such as old newspaper and a cardboard box. Simply scrunch the paper up, pop it inside the box and hide kibble or treats within it.
💡Snuffle Mat - create a snuffle mat using a towel or yoga mat that your pooch can unroll to discover hidden kibble. You could also lay a treat trail for your dog to follow with their nose.
💡Rotate your dog's toys weekly. This will keep them excited and interested in them.
💡Play different types of music or introduce your dog to new sounds.
💡Take your dog on an adventure, explore a new environment or visit a dog-friendly beach.

Easy enrichment ideas for your cat;
💡Get crafty with scissors and sticky tape and build a cat house, maze or tunnel using cardboard boxes, toilet rolls and tissue paper.
💡Create a reach feeder or slow feeder from home recycling, such as toilet rolls and shoe boxes, to encourage curiosity, fun and stimulation.
💡Introduce your cat to Bird TV! Search online for "bird TV For cats" for cat-friendly videos to display on a screen for them to watch.

Adding enrichment to your pet's routine helps fight boredom and keeps them mentally sharp 🧠

🤎 Fergus 🤎

This handsome fella came in last week to get checked out, as he had somehow taken some of the top layer of his pad off on his right hind foot 🐾

As you can imagine this was quite sore, and he was intermittently lame on it, not forgetting how irritating it was too!

Vet Abi brought him through into the prep room where nurses Fiona & Tara restrained and distracted him whilst Abi gave the area a clean, a good check over and applied a bandage to prevent him from licking it, ensuring it stays clean and promotes healing 🤕

He was such a good boy, and enjoyed lots of fuss and liver paste as a distraction 😋

With firework night not far away, let’s think about our pets who may get frightened by the loud noise and flashing lights 🐶🐱

How can we help our pets feel calmer on firework night?
🎆Provide a safe and secure space for them to hide if they want to
🎇Play some background music/ have the television on
🎆Leave a light on so they aren't in the dark if on their own
🎇More anxious pets might benefit from calming tablets/ diffusers

From a safety perspective make sure that pets are kept away from bonfires and fireworks to prevent accident or injury 🪵🔥

Plus a little note on wildlife - hedgehogs like to make houses in bonfires - so have a little check before setting light to them! 🦔
