Finally this has changed !
Just be careful and mindful 🐾

I’ve been vocally against the ridiculous “5 minute a month” rule for years and now it has finally thankfully changed!!
A small step away from snowflakery at last!

Factors that affect your dog’s behaviour:

⚡️Handler Communication - Inconsistency and differences in multiple owner handling and relationship can lead to unpredictable behaviour or slow progress. If a human isn’t willing to change their ways, how can they expect their dog to?

⚡️Early Socialisation & Training - If your puppy isn’t taught neutrality around a multitude of triggers in their early critical socialisation period, it is much harder to do later in life. This does not mean flooding your puppy, its understanding the intensity they can cope with.

⚡️Environment & Lifestyle - If a dog’s environment is stressful or their needs aren’t being met, they will absolutely show behaviour that may not be wanted. This is especially true of rescue or rehomes because you don’t know what they’ve been through.

⚡️Opportunity - If your dog practices a behaviour often, the behaviour increases. If access to the behaviour is managed, it can decrease. This is a big struggle for most owners and requires constant training.

⚡️Diet - What you put into your dog affects how they behave. This is noticeable in some dogs more than others. A high carb diet can cause energy spikes and allergies/intolerances can cause discomfort in multiple ways. If your dog is hyperactive or the opposite (lethargic), it’s worth looking at their diet.

⚡️Physical Discomfort - Dogs don’t always show pain in the same way a human would. This can be severe obvious pain or low grade chronic pain/discomfort that creates irritability, and often can be completely unnoticed by the owner. Noise sensitivity, spatial anxiety and handling can all be heightened in a dog with discomfort and can lead to an increase in stress behaviour, usually of a breed-specific nature.

⚡️Breed - Your dog likely wasn’t bred to sit on the sofa and walk slowly in a straight line. Research your breed before complaining they’re too active or loud. If you get a terrier and are annoyed they chase wildlife, I don’t know what to tell you!

⚡️Genetics - As humans do, dogs can pass behavioural traits and predispositions to their offspring, which is why it’s never a good idea to breed a dog with behavioural or physical issues. Also, an increase in breeding popular breeds with a focus on aesthetics over behaviour has led to genetic drawbacks, including resource guarding, handling aggression, separation anxiety and reactivity. The more dogs, the more problems.

This is why this job is hard, because ALL of these factors matter and they aren’t so easy to see when being hired months into an unwanted behaviour. The more honest information you can give your trainer, the better. And if you feel you can’t commit to a training programme necessary for your dog, acknowledge that it isn’t the training but the application.

Sometimes, accepting your dog for all their quirks and traits is half the battle.

Humans aren’t perfect, so why should dogs be?

Today, we focused on counter conditioning with Betty the Bichon, a rescue dog who is fearful and unsure of new things, noises, and moving objects. Her dedicated owner has been working super hard to help her realize that the world isn’t such a scary place.

I'd take a bet that there's not a dog trainer alive who's not heard this...

But if a dog behaves 'better' during a training session it's not because they're trying to impress the 'teacher'. Or because the trainer exudes any mystical power. There's no 'dog trainer magic' at work. If a dog behaves 'better' it's almost certainly because -

• the trainer rewards more generously
• the trainer has better timing
• the trainer rewards anything that's better, no matter how small the improvement, instead of waiting for perfection
• the trainer doesn't put the dog in situations they can't cope with

And the good news is these are all skills that you can learn!

If you are struggling to see progress or have stalled in your training journey it's worth asking yourself whether you could improve on any of these. And if you can...do!

A great interview in full with the BBC ! A must to listen too ! With regards to the bull breads, genetics, breeders and aggression, what should be done and aggression in general. Completely agree with what is said , shame the BBC only shared a small snippet! Not letting everyone here the full interview

The last of Tinks pups was due to begin her new life in Wales, but sadly she’s back looking for her forever family. It’s absolutely no reflection on her. Just the awful luck of the lady she was meant to go to.
She’s an absolute Angel! 💗

Fully vaccinated, toilet training going very well. Sleeps through the night. In different circumstances she’d be staying without hesitation! 😢
She’s coming 11 weeks old.

She’s so ready to fly the nest bless her. But loving life with her Chase family in the meantime. Absolutely no rush but if she could be your new family member please send me a message.
Please include details of your circumstances, and the kind of lifestyle you could offer her.

I won’t be reducing her price! She’s having even more input, continuing her training, she’s ready to go out and about, and will begin that with us whilst she awaits her family. She loves the other dogs, so in an ideal world I’d like her to be in a home with a resident, and youthful dog already there.

She has a beautiful chilled nature, she’s confident and resilient. Her coat will be a lush non shedding fleece that will need regular professional grooming, and consistent maintenance in-between too.

She really is stunning. She will make a small to average size Cockapoo.

Cannock chase location. Requests for how much? will not be answered. Please message me as I’ve requested. Thank you. Esther x

Photo sent from a client ! Speaks volumes 🐾🩵 This is Bella who has not been enjoying herself when out and about in public places , cafes, restaurants and pubs, she would bark at most dogs and people coming near her and was unable to settle at all! After 3 sessions and a lot of time, patience, consistency and guidance she is now enjoying these times out and about! Well done everyone 🐾
