Missing since 04/12/24

We have been asked to help find Luna. Lauren is putting a team together, working with Drone SAR For Lost Dogs UK to help locate, capture & reunite her with her Mum.

CHRISTMAS COUNTDOWN: With Gracie

Our THERAPY dog Gracie has been spreading Christmas cheer today by visiting a local care home.

Gracie definitely did an excellent job today, as always. Who wouldn't love a Christmas cuddle with this lovely little lady?!

Our community work is a very important part of The Max & George Trust. We are thrilled to be able to give back to the local community in this way, especially at Christmas time. 🌟

CHRISTMAS COUNT DOWN: With Sadie

Beautiful Sadie our Staffy Cross has been waiting for a home with experienced, special people who understand her, for a long time.

Sadie adores human interaction, so much so, we have built her, her very own lounge at our kennels. Enabling volunteers to sit with her for extended sessions of socialisation, love, cuddles, fusses & human interaction! All she wants to do is to love & be loved in return.

Sadie also really enjoys the company of children, running round our enclosed freedom field & playing fetch.

Sadly Sadie does not like ANY other four legged creatures so cannot live with any other pets. However, there must be a special someone out there who could give this gorgeous girl a spot on their sofa, in return for unconditional love & loyalty?

If you are interested in meeting Sadie or any of our other dogs, please send us a private message.

CHRISTMAS COUNT DOWN: With Toto

Toto, is one half of senior bonded pair; Tess & Toto. Wherever Toto goes, Tess follows. They are both looking for a forever home together.

Toto is a funny, playful, affectionate & gentle boy. He LOVES teddies, walkies & pup-cups!

They are great with kids, other dogs & can be left alone for short periods. But they would rather live with someone who is home most of the time as they love company.

Toto's foster Mum reports that they are both a joy to live with. You can find out more about Toto & Tess here: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1Dzb6UaJKf/

If you would like to arrange an appointment to meet them both, please send us a private message so we can book you in.

They had a wonderful doggy day trip out to Beacon Park with our volunteers.

These trips out are invaluable for young rescue dogs like these, as it expands their world, giving them the opportunity to meet other dogs & encounter real world scenarios like push chairs, strangers, scooters, cars, children etc.

The volunteers were thrilled to feed back that all three dogs travelled well in the cars & walked beautifully around the park.

If you would like to meet any of these little dogs, or our other residents, please send us a private message to book an appointment.

A week of veterinary visits...

YARA
The sick kill center puppy update. There is no change & no improvement in the state of health. She needs to have more tests & her situation remains critical. Thank you to everyone who has messaged enquiring about her.

ALFIE
Alfie is a senior Shih Tzu who is being well cared for in a foster home. He had a funny turn in the week. We were worried he’d had a stroke or a heart attack, so he’s been to the vets for a check up & had his bloods tested.
Alfie is now on some meds & his foster mum is issuing lots of TLC

BRUCE
Bruce the emaciated boy came to us this week & was taken straight to the vets. He continues to follow his meal regime, eating little & often. He is sleeping a lot, but enjoying lots of love & attention from the team.

POM CHI PUPPY
This little one is in a terrible state for such a young age. She's suffering with a temperature, horrific teeth, swelling, crackle on her heart with suspected pyometra & scabies. She has been on oxygen & has a really high temperature so we are hoping the meds will work & begin to bring this down. We are waiting for results from bloods & scan. If we cannot get her temperature down she will have to be admitted tomorrow for IV.

BEN
We collected Ben today. He was found as a stray & has been at the vets for a little while. He’s been very badly mistreated & as a result is very shut down. We are slowly working with him to gain his trust & our behaviourist has helped us settle him.

TESS & TOTO
Our senior bonded pair have visited the vets today with their foster Mum for a few skin issues & to have their meds too. They were very good, as always.

It’s been a week of emergencies with one after another

😢😢😢😢😩

First the puppies needing oxygen, resuscitation and blood transfusions

Then the Staffy X that’s unbelievably malnourished & emaciated 😢😢

Today we went and collected another 8 month old puppy that’s been clearly beaten and mistreated… so much so it’s completely shut down 😢

And in the last hour a little chihuahua x has arrived with a horrific skin condition, temperature, problems breathing & the worse teeth I’ve seen in a long time

It’s been rushed to the vets where we are now waiting on test results for suspected pyometra. She’s been placed on oxygen 😢😢

LUNA'S PUPPIES

As you can see they are growing BIG & strong! They are now full of beans, enjoying toys, play fights & general rambunctious behavior!

Due to the size of the litter & the fact that these babies are growing into little fatties, we plan on building them their very own play area so they can spread their legs & burn off some of their puppy energy.

We are having to build this facility from scratch, as catering for puppies is not in our usual remit as a dog rescue.

This is where YOU come in!
We are looking for donations of floor VINYL & ARTIFICIAL GRASS, to finish off their puppy playground. If you could donate any large pieces of grass or vinyl please do get in touch!

Puppy playtime videos to follow asap! 🙏

In the meantntime, we would like to take this opportunity and give a huge thank you to Rhian Dash of Tregearvean Labradors who has supported us from the very beginning with help, support, vet bedding, heat lamp, playpen, toys and whatever we have needed for the puppies - your support has meant the world & we cannot thank you enough !

It’s not often we have newborn puppies at the M> rescue but it’s happened twice to us this year where we have had to “bring up” puppies. We are very much used to rescuing dogs so it’s been an eye opening and exhausting few months!

Thank you Rhian Dash you have been amazing ! I apologise now for the bombardment of shouts of help in the early days !

Thanks also to everyone who donated towards Luna’s ongoing vet costs, food and everything else !

Special thanks to Ruth of Rugeley Animal Welfare for the puppy pen & to Alan for putting it together & transforming our medical room (sorry Ed the vet but Luna’s & the puppies needs were greater !)

Of course a huge thanks to Melissa & June for assisting in the delivery of the pups - not something I want to repeat in a hurry !

To all the M> Volunteers you are all amazing and have given Luna & her puppies the best start we could !

MEET BRUCE

Bruce was a super brave boy at the vets.
Sadly, that's where the good news ends...

His diagnosis is:
- grossly emaciated
- kidney damage
- low protein levels
- elevated blood sugars
- anaemia

He is so emaciated the vet said she could feel his kidneys where his stomach should be 😞

Following veterinary advice, Bruce is now under a strict feeding regime to build him back up, being fed small meals every 2-3hrs to avoid reverse eating. Additionally, he will of course have regular veterinary check-ups along his recovery journey. But for now, he is resting.

Regardless of his poor health, his spirit remains strong. He continues to astound us with his loving & inquisitive nature. So much so, Lauren is confident he will pull through if we all get behind him giving him lots of love, TLC & time to heal.

DOGS IN CRISIS

We're sorry to report that we have 2 very very sick dogs. One of the newborn puppies we rescued from the kill center in Romania is still battling & continues to hang on by a thread.

The other, our newest UK resident Bruce, who is so emaciated the vet said he could feel his kidneys where his stomach should be... But more about him later 😞

Lucky's poorly puppy needed another blood transfusion today. Mia, one of the dogs at our Romanian shelter, donated some blood to the little dog in need.

Unfortunately the blood transfusion did not go to plan. The puppy had an adverse reaction & started vomiting & breathing hard.

The vet stopped the transfusion & in a very short time everything escalated for the worse. She was rushed to the big hospital in the neighboring city, receiving mouth to mouth during the journey to keep her alive!

The little one was admitted as an emergency case & given first aid. She is now connected to oxygen & will be staying in for at least 48 hours. Again, we watch & wait for news.

This resilient little puppy was born on death row in a ROMANIAN kill centre. She survived the elements outside, with nothing to keep her warm or safe besides her Mama. She lived when others couldn't. We really don't want to lose her now...

WOOFERS WINTER WARMER

We are pleased to let you know that our dogs remain cosy in their kennels, even during this cold snap, thanks to everyone who supported last year's winter warmer appeal.

Last year we invested in extra supplies of:
- electric heated pads designed for pets
- microwaveable heat pads
- heaters
- vet bedding
- self-warming heat mats
- raised beds

Our kennels are insulated, but we are monitoring temperatures in all of the blocks which are fitted with thermometers.

The majority of our residents living in the outdoor kennels are Romanian Shepherds. These hardy dogs have fur designed to keep them warm in temperatures of -10 or more, so much so Bruce, Major & Brodie found their bed areas too hot & laid outside on the floor!
They really are incredible dogs!

If you would like to contribute to our winter warmer supply kit, you can help keep a doggy warm by choosing a gift off our Amazon wish list: https://www.amazon.co.uk/hz/wishlist/ls/251KZM3F3Z08N?ref_=wl_share&fbclid=IwAR3ZjKAFlVhCMjgwQtbbHX_2WPL0dWnv3V8V-GkuTSK12Z-ic4Fe7kpO8SE

Our Story

The Max & George Trust was set up in 2016 after Max sadly and unexpectedly died from Leishmaniasis (Leish). Max and George were both rescued from awful situations in Spain and it was discovered they had Leish. Leish is relatively unheard of in the UK and therefore treatment is very expensive and some UK vets have little or no experience in dealing with the disease compared to vets in Countries where Leish is prevalent. The Trust aims to help other dog owners here in the UK that have animals affected by the disease in anyway it can, including support, treatment plans, treatment costs and emergency care when needed. We are supported by two incredibly amazing vets who are both very experienced in treating the disease.

We also rescue dogs that are in desperate need of help regardless of where they come from, be it the UK or abroad. Many of the dogs we have rescued would have been put to sleep if we had not stepped in, or, needed urgent medical attention as in the case of Charlie who had been shot and was living in a shelter the bullet still in his leg or Domino who would have been put to sleep here in the UK just because of his age through no fault of his owner.

We want to continue to support dogs with Leish and rescue more animals in dire need but to do that we need help. You can help us continue our work in many ways, such as by donation, buying a personalised gift from us, doing your normal everyday shopping using our cashback card so we get cashback as well as you, becoming a fosterer or even adopting. You could even hold fundraisers for us like a coffee morning because every little helps and here’s a really easy thing you can do to help...... just share our FB page with your friends & family. Helping us get more support and likes might just end up saving a dogs life! However, you choose to support us, thank you ###
