Charlotte's Top Dog: MILO!

Charlotte, along with her twin sister, has been volunteering at The M> for nearly 3yrs. During that time, Charlotte has formed a very special bond with her main man Milo & he remains her favorite dog to this day.

Charlotte spends lots of one on one time with Milo, grooming him, training him, walking him, watching him run in our freedom field & Milo's most favourite thing; providing ENDLESS TUMMY TICKLES! As you can see he LOVES it & her in equal measure!

As much as Charlotte adores Milo, she'd love nothing more than to see him in a home of his own with his forever family. It is Milo's birthday this Saturday & we know this would be his biggest BIRTHDAY WISH.

RIP Shadow

Sometimes no matter how hard we wish or & pray for it, there is nothing more we can do & to do the right thing for a dog, euthanasia becomes the only option.

We are all heartbroken, following an incredible stressful few days trying right to the end to find an alternative solution as opposed to euthanasia.

Since Shadow came into our care, back in July 2023, he displayed physiological issues and was assessed by 3 sroarate behaviourists.

We have relentlessly tried to find an alternative specialist rescue or dog trainer to take Shadow on but during the last 18 months we have been unsuccessful.

Having bitten 4 times, with the most recent incident last week being so severe and so aggressive we were forced into making this decision perhaps sooner than we wanted to

Due to his bite and aggression history, Shadow had no prospect of being responsibly re-homed to anyone but perhaps a well experienced professional & we tried hard to find Shadow one

As a no kill shelter, meaning we do not euthanise dogs that cannot be rehomed due to age, manageable / trainable behavioural problems, dogs that arrive sick and needing costly veterinary treatment or ongoing medications including chemotherapy etc we sometimes get dogs with very difficult behaviour so behavioural euthanasia is always a very last resort and only ever done where a dog is deemed so dangerous it mutilates and is simply not safe around people then sometimes there is no option because the quality of life is so poor for dogs that have to live out their lives in solitary confinement.

Shadow’s situation was discussed with professional dog handlers, assessments undertaken and veterinary advice sought, so we could consider ALL factors, including taking into account Shadow’s quality of life when coming to this conclusion.

Importantly, we also have a duty of care for the safety of all our volunteers and, the fact that Shadow has no realistic prospect of ever being re-homed or being accepted into a specialist rescue we have had no choice but to make the responsible, yet heartbreakingly painful decision of putting Shadow to sleep.

RIP Shadow, you were very much loved.

PUPPY UPDATE
Luna's puppies are thriving. They're all fully vaccinated, microchipped & ready for homes.

In the meantime we are getting them used to dog leads, different environments, new smells & other dogs.

As you can see, our volunteers love nothing more than walking 6 excited puppies all at once!!! ... everyone will sleep well tonight! ✨

We have been asked to help find missing dog Holly by her owner. Lauren is putting a team together, working with Drone SAR For Lost Dogs UK to help locate, capture & reunite this lovely girl with her Mum.

When dogs are lost, they can revert to 'survival mode', meaning that dogs can become more reactive & defensive, as well as more inclined to run away or hide from any perceived threats... even their owners 😔

A Small Piece of Stafford

We thought you'd like an update on the little black dog we successfully trapped on Boxing Day.

While in our care, this sweet natured dog has been decompressing, receiving lots of TLC, a full groom & has visited the vets for a thorough assessment. Sadly the prognosis from the vet concluded that the poor little thing requires some quite intensive & expensive surgery.

To date, no one has come forward with details to claim the dog as their own. That being the case, we are in little doubt that we will be paying for the veterinary treatment ourselves.

LUNA'S PUPPIES 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤

Luna's puppies are now all fully vaccinated & ready for adoption. We held off advertising them heavily in the run up to Christmas for obvious reasons.

But now the new year is upon us, these puppies who were born in rescue, need their new start!

HAPPY NEW YEAR from all at M>!

As you know, 2023 ended in a whirlwind of great stress & uncertainty. However, 2024 started in new premises, stronger than ever, fortified by friendship, family, community spirit & our furry friends!

Every dog saved from the kill centre / surrendered to us by its owner / lost dog captured / displaced dogs taken in from local vets, dog wardens or police could only be helped thanks to the support we've had from you, our wonderful community, over the last 12 months!
