WARNING for all dog owners & Dogs carers. Read on....
Its coming to that time of year again with the snow and ice expected the roads may well be gritted, if you walk your dog on gritted roads/paths please make sure that their paws are washed either with fresh water being carried or dipping their feet in fresh water once at home.

Every year hundreds of pets throughout the country become seriously ill and in some cases die because of the rock salt and antifreeze being used during the cold snap. Dogs and cats walk through the substances left by gritters trying to clear roads and car drivers defrosting their windscreens and then licking them off their paws. Consuming rock salt can cause dehydration, liver failure and pancreatitis, while antifreeze contains the chemical ethylene glycol, which can be lethal when ingested.

A little different from our dog related posts however we all ride here and the law on passing horses seems very unclear.

Horses should be passed at a max of 10 mph and given 2 metres space.

If you pass close enough for a horse to kick out at your vehicle you (the driver) will be responsible for the damage to your vehicle, and vets bill and injuries to the rider and horse.

Causing injury to a horse or rider due to your driving comes with a penalty of upto 9 penalty points and an unlimited fine.

Slow down, pass wide, it will take 30 seconds and could save a life, possibly your own included if a 600kg animal goes through your windscreen.

so we signed up for the smart water spray system to give us another tool for our security doghandler teams and in particular our anti social behaviour patrol units.
Every can carries a unique I.d spray that can be used to place a criminal at the scene of a crime even if they get away.

Also led to belief we are the first company in Northern Ireland to do this.

Lockhart k9 services leading the way, not just with training and provision of security doghandlers which we have always set the bench mark for also in giving our teams the best advantages we can.

Day 4 of our current level 2 general purpose security doghandler nasdu course. I always like to start with searching for the man before protection.
In my opinion the most under trained part of security work. everyone obsesses over bite work and forgets to think about the fact if you can find them in the first place protection work is pointless

We are currently looking at running our next nasdu course in the new year from Mon 6th Feb to 12th.

If you wish to book its a 25% deposit with rest due on/before 1st February.

C/t and team certs will be available that week also

Question most commonly asked, why should I do a nasdu course?

1) the course covers use of force, the guard dog act, dangerous dog act and animal welfare act. All of which could see you heading to court, fined, imprisoned or your dog being seized and destroyed if you end up on the wrong side of any of them.

2) if you do end up in court even if you have obeyed the laws to the letter when you're asked what training or qualifications you have and the answer is none you instantly lose all credibility in the case.

3) acs and iso companies, part of that is adherence to British standards, nasdu courses are inline with bs8517 the code of practice for security doghandlers, if your doghandlers are not qualified and inline with bs8517 it's a breach of that adherence.

4) the course is tax deductible, when it comes to the end of the tax you can claim it as a personal (utr) or companies (ltd) training expense, ct, quarterly and team certs are also deductible.

We've had an influx of dog handlers who have been working unqualified in the last few weeks and the minute we start legislation on day 1 they've had a real eye opener of just how much trouble they have been risking if they'd used their dog at any point particularly doghandlers operating in public areas. Honestly guys falling foul of guard dog act, dangerous dog act and animal welfare act because someone said all you need is your sia and i'll lend you a dog on shift isn't worth the fine and/or jail time

WARNING for all dog owners & Dogs carers. Read on....
With the snow and ice expected the roads may well be gritted, if you walk your dog on gritted roads/paths please make sure that their paws are washed either by walking them through a few puddles away from the gritted surfaces or by dipping their feet in fresh water once at home. Every year hundreds of pets throughout the country become seriously ill and in some cases die because of the rock salt and antifreeze being used during the cold snap. Dogs and cats walk through the substances left by gritters trying to clear roads and car drivers defrosting their windscreens and then licking them off their paws. Fear reactivity...
Just because your dog barks and lunges does not mean it's protecting, infact there's a major probability that dogs is terrified and begging the scary thing to go away.
Any dog can be made to bite however vast vast numbers of those that do shouldn't be made to.
A protection dog, should be a strong confident dog capable of being taken everywhere, anywhere, around any age group and not be a liability.
Teeth on rope image of working dogs belongs in the junk yard dog era, modern training is a different level.
If you can only take your dog to empty areas it's not protecting you from anything, the times that a dog is needed most are busy areas ironically.
