Loftus is an old English sheep dog that has now been for a full groom twice with us
He has all the normal trades of an old English sheep dog hates his feet being touched but apart from that, for a young dog he is adapting to been groomed very well
He is very much my type of dog big and stubborn all the traits ļæ¼in the sort of dogs I love
Very proud of Loftus today was very good an as normal never want to leave the groomers just loves being around us and the other dogs
Being groomed is just all so much fun to him which is ace
Plus although I like old Englishā€™s natural he like being that bit sorter in this warmer weather ( big teddy bear)

Due to the on going electric prices constantly going up this year, we are increasing our priceā€™s for all dogs from the 1st April.

I know a lot of people are struggling with the cost of everything going up this year but as a business our electric has more that doubled in the last 12 months so to be able to offer all our customers the same quality of service we must do this

Yet again another dog has been attacked by another dog in Nettleham
The dog in question is only a puppy which Major groom hopes has a speedy recovery and has no long term effects from this ordeal
The point of this post is nettleham is a beautiful village with lots of nice walks and good areas to let you dog run and play!!!
itā€™s getting ruined by as normal selfish people and their dogs
I walk Ragnar and my other dogs in the village daily and for one I am totally fed up with people seeing me still not putting their dog/dogs back on the lead and when there dogs get to me there barking and getting in my dogs face and the owner then will either say my dogs ok it friendly or it socialised
Me for one doesnā€™t want to hear this crap
One of my dogs has already had way too many confrontations with dogs like this
The owners are either on there phone not giving a s**t what their dog is doing or the owner has no control, no recall what so ever and the dog has clearly has had no training part from the owner which clearly hasnā€™t a clue , this is not respectable for other people other dogs and anything else that by letting the dog do whatever it wants is just dangerous and frankly if you are one of these people you should not have a dog at all
If you canā€™t control you dog donā€™t let it off the lead if you see someone with there dog put your dog back on the lead
Think about being a good dog owner not a bad one
Ragnar is 14 stone 2 and most of the time a big gentle giant but like the rest of us he has off days when he really donā€™t want other dog in his face, running around his legs barking
This is why I alway put him back on the lead to be responsible for his safety and the safety of others
Open your eyes people !!!! if another human came running towards you screaming at you would you be ok about it ?????? but thatā€™s what these idiots are doing to your dog by letting there dog run at your dog ļæ¼
Ragnar and five of my other dogs natural instinct is to guard, they guard themselves, there property and there family which includes the person that is walking them so when this dog or dogs is running at him barking growling it is confrontational to him his guard instincts have already kicked in his job is to protect at all cost so if he bites another dog when he is on the lead on the other dog is off whoā€™s fault is it really !!! Neither dogs !!! Always the owners
the law states you should be under control of your dog at all times which a lot of people in Nettleham need to remember to do
The dog laws in general needs to change and more people should be taking there dogs to proper dog trainers to get proper help and advice as they are clearly making a crap job of it themselves ļæ¼
Be responsible use your lead and consider others control ā€ Your ā€œ dog

This is Rylee she is a sprocker she has been coming to Major Groom for about five years, she has gone from being a very nervous dog around other dogs to being a real member of the family.
Rylee often nuzzles Ragnar now and has become very settled around him even given his size. Her owners really go the extra mile, to give Rylee all that she needs and the love and devotion she shows them is so nice to see she is a lovely mannered dog, thats coat shines so well when she has been groomed which again proves how well her mum and dad maintain her health
As you can see how settled she is around the big lad chilling on the grooming table
Please excuse Ragnarā€™s stocking they are to prevent pressure on his joints with him being so big now !!! My baby lion

I have had such a good week we have spent most of our time going to championship dog show all over but it has been so rewarding.
The atmosphere and the quality of these dogs at the shows is second to none and it really is an honour to be in the shows taking part to this high standard.
The work that goes into the training, grooming, feeding and partnership between the dog and handler is amazing the sheer dedication is outstanding.
Ragnar, my Neapolitan mastiff, was amazing I was so impressed with his behaviour he really took it all in his stride. The shows are very busy with hundreds of dogs in very close proximity and can be quite noisy but never the less, his behaviour was outstanding.
I have only had Ragnar 6 months now and he is still only a puppy with loads more growing to do and his training at times has been very up and down due to his stubbornness. This week has proved he has come on so much in a short space of time ļæ¼ļæ¼ļæ¼and I am so proud of him, he has already exceeded what I thought possible of him, due to his late start in life, four months ago ļæ¼I couldnā€™t even get him in the car, that took hours to correct and now he sleeps in the car for two hour journeys at a time, totally chilled.
I have to thank Mike Evans, Ragnars breeder for allowing me to buy such an outstanding dog.
Ragnar is very special to me for many reasons but his willingness to adapt to different situations is fantastic.
Sherlock, my Bloodhound, died at Christmas from gastric torsion and it was a very upsetting heartbreaking time for me and the rest of my family. Losing something you love at such a young age is devastating and to be honest I was not in a good place. I spent weeks very upset.
Ragnar was a wild card he was head strong, stubborn and sometimes a total pain in the butt, which after losing Sherlock was totally what I needed, I just didnā€™t know it. My focus went into training him and training classesā€¦ hours and hours of working together to get Ragnar where he is today. Ragnar has helped me heal after a very big void, and I will be alway great full to him just for that.
This week Ragnar has won three first places in high breed classes and two best reserve male in two classes.
Which means Ragnar will now have qualified for Crufts 2023!! This alone is a massive achievement but with only six months Training behind him is outstanding.
I am SO SO proud of him, words can not say it enough.
They say that dog is manā€™s best friend but in my case my baby lion Ragnar is my best friend x

The weather at the moment and especially over the weekend as been very hot the pavement and pathways are very warm to the touch on your hands
Please only walk your dogs in the late evening or early morning, and make sure they are not laying out in the garden in the sun
There has been many cases of dogs over heating in the last few days
Over heating in any dog relevant of breed or size is very dangerous and we are now seeing dogs coming in with sore burnt blistered pads due to the heat on the pavement and concrete areas.
Fans blowing and cold fresh water will help, put ice cubes in there water to keep it cooler
My dogs will be having there first proper walk today and some of them have not had a walk for five days just small amount of play time in the garden once itā€™s nearly dark
Dogs with heart problems are up there with breed with very thick coats are at a much high chance of heat stroke this can cause ļæ¼vomiting, the shakes, fits and your dog to collapse if not taken to the vets ļæ¼ļæ¼ Immediatelyļæ¼ it could be fatal!!!!ļæ¼
Please! Please! Remember if itā€™s to hot for you it is far to hot for you dog

This is Nala she is roughly 20 weeks old she is an excellent example of a Chow Chow puppy her weight is perfect, conformation is good and her eyes are open well and clear.
She is one of our new puppies that is owned by Becky who has clearly done her research into the breed before purchasing this stunning little girl, (which is brilliant).
Chow Chow are a very high maintenance breed that require daily grooming and very regular trips to the groomers to keep the coat in its perfect condition, which is very important to maintain Nalaā€™s welfare.
Obviously her diet and regular exercise is also a big part of her wellness but due to the thickness and density of Nalaā€™s coat, maintaining this to the correct level is hard but crucial.
Nala has already been to Major Groom twice and is starting to not only understand what she is here for but that being groomed is a pure pamper day she is a very social little lady that loves greeting the other dogs, wagging all the time and loves her treats.
Grooming is not all about the groom! The social aspect of meeting/greeting other people and dogs is also important.
I am very proud of Becky as an owner you really couldn't ask for better. The fact that she understands the big importance of maintaining Nalaā€™s coat so well and these very regular trips to the groomers to look after her and give her what this breed of dog requires is brilliant.
Becky has a family, she works full time and her husband is at present working away but still manages to look after Nala so well and give this much deserving little Chow Chow the best.
I have now owned my business for many years and only went into the job due to my love of dogs and maintaining them to a high standard.
It is so rewarding, we have many dogs on our books of all sorts of breeds that all have their special requirements and needs that must be met.
I love my job and love the dogs that we groom, I have never been a people person and I know my people skills are not always up to the mark but my grooming and love of dogs is. I like working with animals because they are so uncomplicated as long as you give them reassurance and kindness they will do what ever you ask of them.
All groomers will say that grooming is a partnership between groomer, owner and the dog all parties have to put in effort to work together to maintain their dogs hygiene and welfare needs.
Grooming should be relaxing and stress free but this can only be done when the dog has settled, with a regular groomer and the dog is used to being regularly groomed, this all takes time and should be done from a young age ideally after there second vacation even if it just a puppy that need brushing and nails trimming on a grooming table this helps the dog get use to many factors thatā€™s happening around them, other dogs, smells, other people watching to see what is going on all helps the dog settle and become happy in it new environment, which over a short amount of time makes a little puppy that may be a bit nervous, turn into a happy dog as it grows. As a groomer it is so rewarding watching a dog doing what you are asking of them whilst waging and licking your nose at that point you know the dog is totally settled feels happy and safe around people they trust.
This in turn makes their owners job so much easier at home to groom their dog and makes them feel happy leaving their much loved pet in our care.

Went to Stourton Estates today for the day to see the deer and try to desensitise Sherlock from the smell of deer to help with his training. It was a beautiful day weather was great and the place is brilliant for a day out walking round the country side looking at the deer with your dog , relaxing. Even bumped to Rodney one of our little baby puppies with his owners and Rylee our sprocker that has been a client of ours for many years now with her human mum and dad
It is alway a pleaser to bump into the dogs we work on and their owners.
I would highly recommend checking this place out next summer for a day out with your family a picnic and the dog

Was really nice to meet up with Charlotte and the gang from The furbaby retreat, and huge thank you to anyone from the show who stopped to congratulate and fuss Sherlock, its great for his training so thank you, especially little Stanley, a little baby beagle with no fear of Sherlocks size, who became his best friend for the day! šŸ˜Š xx
