Happy gotcha day Izzy! 11 years of chaos and I wouldnāt have it any other wayā¤ļø
As Iām sure most of you know, Izzy is a rescue dog (as is Sasha!). We have no background in her other than she was found on the streets and was looking pretty thin. Izzy apparently didnāt have any severe issues, however I come to the conclusion itās because she had shut down in rescue kennels due to high stress. When she came home, she was actually pretty aggressive towards menā¦. And Sasha when there was food on the go⦠she would also be climbing onto my shoulders if there was a dog near by
Yet, she loved being around horses! My guess is she was born on a farm, cause being at the stables has always been her safety blanket (same really!)
Besides that point⦠Izzy is the biggest reason I donāt scream from the rooftops that everyone needs to rescue. Rescues are the most amazing companions, but the last thing they need(same with any animal) is to be bounced from home to home, because someone gets it on a whim because they look adorable or feel sorry for them, only to be thrown back in because it turns out they have an issue etc. especially as dogs can pick up issues in rescues that theyāve never had before, down to how their life completely flips upside down and how stressful kennels can be(no fault of the rescues of course who are doing their best!). So as much as I would love every dog to have a home, I would rather it be a home that knows for definite they wonāt bounce them back no matter what!
But in my opinion, nervous dogs like Izzy make the best friends. She may have brought a lot of tears over the years down to how difficult she was in the beginning, but you gain that trust and she will be the most loyal dog in the world for you!
Lastly, we obviously nearly lost her this year due to her suddenly falling so ill with vestibular disease. Ever since then, she has been doing really well. She does live with a permanent head tilt, which just makes her look even more adorable š„¹
